Don't Write on the Engines !
Long write-up for today's batch of awesomeness.
First off. This whole covid thing, the election, working from home, not being able to go out, not seeing friends/family, etc. Has me, and I'm sure everyone else frazzled. Having a project to work on, in my case hiking out and shooting photos of graffiti on trains has been the one thing that's keeping me sane at this point. Hoping to see some new pieces from writers that I respect is like opening a pack of baseball cards and finding your favorite players rookie card for me. Yeah, it sounds goofy, but I've been having fun, staying sane, and seeing and capturing some amazing pieces of rolling art.
So I had this weird Monday vacation day on 11-2-2020. I decided to drive out to one my my benching spots and hang out for the day.
The plan was to set up a time lapse camera, and then just hang out and bench freights for 5-6 hours. There wasn't a cloud in the sky and a slight breeze, 88F. high. No clouds makes for a very boring time lapse between trains coming by. I also only brought my little Small Rig clamp for the time lapse camera and couldn't decide where I wanted to clamp it. I should have just brought a tripod.
Out for a few hours before the BNSF guys in their truck rolled up, got out and started walking toward me. "Great!" I thought. They're going to try and chase me away. Nope, they walked over to one set of tracks, walked across the bridge inspecting the tracks, then under the bridge inspecting the bridge, got in their truck and left. I like that. I don't bother you. You don't bother me.
A while later I see tree guy coming back home. I don't know his name, but there's a guy who lives in/under a tree that's next to the trail I hike in on. Once he's in there you'd never know it. I've seen him, he's seen me, and we don't bother each other.
The whole time I'm there I'm using my little Tascam recorder to record train audio every time one comes by so I have audio for the slideshow videos I've been uploading on YouTube. Well, this time I forgot it out there. Didn't dump my photos until Tuesday night and discovered it missing. Woke up early, drove out and it was still there. It recorded for almost 5 more hours before the batteries died. Glad to have it back, I thought tree guy might have found it.

Called one of the seven wonders of the natural world, UNESCO writes that the Great Barrier Reef “is of superlative natural beauty above and below the water, and provides some of the most spectacular scenery on earth.”
Accessing Reefworld, moored above the Hardy Reef, is easy from the Port of Airlie via Hamilton Island.
Once there, a helicopter flight is a must! The view was stunning, and the the colours changed dramatically with every shift in light. What’s even more amazing is that this particular helipad has a luxurious boat shed underneath.

Was I born to #write or drink #coffee? I have been writing since I was seven years old, when my elementary teacher told me that I could write. I was so inspired. Aside from the usual assignments, i wrote little things; short stories, fiction. As i grew up I started to write very intense pieces that I ended up destroying. I began to experience pain. As I progressed in life, I realized that my best writing often occurred when I was hurting the most. Fortunately, I shaped a great career in the wine world and brought all of my skills to the fore. My love of wine, food grew. In 2002, I bought my first camera and learned quickly that photography was intrinsic to my spirit and coupled with my pen would take me to a place I hand never been. As I added the camera to my repitoire, I found the greatest fulfillment of all. I could use my pen and my eye to bring my favorite subjects to life! Yes #writing and #photography have brought me to life. Yet, this does not come without pain, because my best work often comes when I am hurting the most. Now I think I will finish my cappuccino. BTW, Do not feel sorry for me because this is the way it has to be. (July 26, 2015, San Francisco, CA) #PicsArt

Lobster:
- Nova Scotia Lobster Navarin with Chestnuts, Butternut Squash and Tarragon.
I can write an essay about this plate. I can talk about philosophy of cooking lobster, luxury, opulence, art and craft, theory of soup - and it would be a decent read, I hope. Or, for dramatic purposes I can used profanity - it's an old trick: profanity is so risque and cutting-edge ... if you live on Park Avenue.
Instead, I'll give you two words:
Lobster Stock
- because the one used in this dish has surpassed everything imaginable and virtually possible, as far as stocks, broths, cooking liquids etc. are concerned. The essence, richness, appeal and complexity of that taste is something words can not describe. I don't believe that stock was colored by saffron or lobster roe - as my servers said: "... it's made with a lot of lobsters"., and skill - might I add.
Please take a look at the entire 11 Madison Park/ Lunch picture set, as well as 11 Madison Park/ Dinner set shot earlier this fall. I would also like to give you a chance to see food of 11 Madison Park under much better lighting conditions, photographed and described by ulterior epicure..
Please consider Overall Impression , as you make your dining destination choices - I humbly hope to be of assistance.
GST Eastern Voles Christmas gathering at Flitton Moor
19/12/2017
Hi All & Tim
May I add my thanks to you all and wish you a happy Christmas and lots of good Voling together in 2018. I cannot wait. All those bonfires, cakes and sarcastic humour.
I thought I would be clever and write a piece about Tuesday incorporating some relevant quotes but the effort has quite overtaken me. So here instead are a few lines from a very wise & quotable Englishman .
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
There is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good humour.
I loved her against reason, against promise, against peace, against hope, against happiness, against all discouragement that could be.
Never close your lips to those whom you have already opened your heart.
There are books of which the backs and covers are by far the best parts.
We forge the chains we wear in life.
No one is useless in this world who lightens the burden of it to anyone else.
There are dark shadows on the earth, but its lights are stronger in the contrast.
The pain of parting is nothing to the joy of meeting again.
Have a heart that never hardens, and a temper that never tires, and a touch that never hurts.
The whole difference between construction and creation is exactly this: that a thing constructed can only be loved after it is constructed; but a thing created is loved before it exists.
There are loads more to choose from and I have to say I was very surprised, perhaps I should read some of his books instead of relying on BBC Childrens Dramas from my earlier years when, hard to believe I was a sprog with hopes and the occasional dream, many of which have been far exceeded in life.
My snaps from Flitton are as usual at www.flickr.com/photos/pitzys_pyx/
Cheers JP
Hi All,
Many thanks for all your hard work at Flitton Moor on Tuesday. We were slightly down on the usual numbers but it didn’t stop you getting a whole lot done! I know David was pleased with the result and in his own words:
Thanks to all those who turned out on Tuesday at Flitton Moor - you did an amazing job as always.
Re fencing: I was expecting at the very most that half of the fence would be completed - and you did 2 thirds of it. Well done. The FoFM will finish it shortly in the new year.
Thanks also to those who manned the fire - and dragged brash to it. Almost all the was cut down was burnt.
And a special mention to the 6 hardy souls who spent the morning digging nettles.
A Merry Christmas to all, and a healthy 2018,
David
Thank you also to Lucinda, Sue and Erika for helping out with refreshments at lunchtime and to Malcolm and Jackie for such a lovely cake.
The next Tuesday task will be at Sandy Smith on the 2nd January and will be doing a bit more thinning/coppicing in the plantation near the bridge over the Flit plus maybe a few other jobs.
But there will also be a task at Maulden Heath next Thursday (28th) if anyone wishes to come along. The task will be clearing brash and regeneration in the Adder Field and, of course, having a fire; meet at the Picnic Area at 10am.
Thanks for all your hard work this year and I hope you all have a lovely Christmas and Happy New Year!
