Western Pacific GP35 3017 leads the westbound WPW manifest at Tobin, CA in the Feather River Canyon below the snowline on a west and cold November 27, 1981 afternoon.
WP GP35 3004 was involved in a side swipe accident somewhere on the WP, and hos found it's way to the WP's Sacramento Jeffrey Shops for evaluation and repair. Once repaired, the unit will emerge with a new EMD cab without the iconic WP "Golden Glow" reflector headlight, and will sport a standard twin sealed beam headlight and will be repainted into WP's new corporate color of Pearlman Green.

A&WP #38709 was one of 100 such 60-ton waffle side boxcars built by the SCL from PS components in late 1971 to early 1972. I have no idea what service they were in, but photos pop up with them in far away places. This car was in Jackson MS on November 8th 1977. No photographer listed, JL Sessa collection.

In August 2010 the Western Pacific Railroad Museum hosted Amtrak's 'Feather River Express' excursion train for that year's Portola Railroad Days event. On Sunday August 22nd the excursion train, primarily made up of private railcars, would return to Oakland following the layover in Portola. Arrangements were made with Amtrak and Union Pacific to allow the WPRM's Western Pacific GP20 #2001 to pilot the train from its home in Portola to Oroville, California. At Oroville the classic EMD would cut off the Feather River Express and return lite-power to Portola.
WP 2001, the first production turbo-charged GP20 built by EMD in 1959, made for quite the sight once again plying home rails through the Feather River Canyon. Here the westbound special is seen about to 'knock-down' an intermediate searchlight at James, the searchlight itself a hold-over from WP days.

WP 3516 east sits on the passing track at WP's South Sacramento yard on April 16, 1982. The track layout for the main and siding here was unique to this yard, with the the main train skirting around the western perimeter of the yard, while the passing track went straight down the middle of the yard, with set out and pick up tracks in between the pass and main tracks. Here we see three set out / pick up tracks on the right side of the photo, with the main slightly out of frame unit closer to the Ice House off in the disctance.
