UP's Western Pacific Heritage SD70ACe locomotive leads a mix of freight cars through Echo, Utah on the Evanston Sub. The second locomotive is of Rio Grande heritage, former D&RGW 5366.
UP 1983 was officially unveiled more than two decades ago, and is still in general freight service wearing the same fancy WP livery.
WP 3542 has just arrived in Oroville and yarded the train. A crew change will take place here along with some local work in the Oroville yard.

WP GP40 3538 leads a piggy back train eastbound out of Portola in June 1978. Already the UP is showing it's presence on the WP property as a prelude of thing to come in the future.

When I first visited and photographed WP Feather River in late August 1974 a friend I took a photo of an BN train from this same bridge at about the same time of day. The lumber mill in the background of this photo looked very busy in late August 1974 with lots of fresh lumber to make something. In this photo six years latter the lumber company looks like it is closed.
