Just over two years after Western Pacific merged into the Union Pacific, a WP GP35 finds itself about 45 miles from home rails in Provo, Utah the afternoon of Jan. 20, 1984.
The 2500 HP general purpose road switcher was built by EMD for the WP in Nov. 1963, and by March 1984, renumbered to UP 786. In 1993, it was sold to Watco, becoming Eastern Idaho Railroad 786.

Forty four years ago plus one day from the date of this photo being posted, dad and I were chasing a dogs breakfast of a lash up on the WP’s San Jose Turn, seen here rounding the curve at Altamont with Bob Black photo bombing my shot.
Up front the power is WP GP7 710, GP20 2006, F7 921, GP7 712, F7 917, and GP20 2007.

WP 918 hustles westbound between Pollock and Phillips, and is about to cross Simms Road on a glorious Indian Summer afternoon in October 1977.
In this closer view, you can clearly see WP U30B 3055 has been temporarily converted into a B-unit due to some cab damage.

WP 3542 has just arrived in Oroville and yarded the train. A crew change will take place here along with some local work in the Oroville yard.

When I first visited and photographed WP Feather River in late August 1974 a friend I took a photo of an BN train from this same bridge at about the same time of day. The lumber mill in the background of this photo looked very busy in late August 1974 with lots of fresh lumber to make something. In this photo six years latter the lumber company looks like it is closed.
In May 1976 WP GP40 was at the WP’s Sacramento Jeffery Shops for some minor side swipe repairs.
