Can you see the dents on my legs where my knee highs sat all day? - Don't worry I did not leave the house in this outfit - I had a bag to go with it.

My friend was telling me the other day about creating tension in photographs by just making the composition just that bit 'off', or by cutting some aspect of the image off where you wouldn't expect it.

This should then make the viewers' eye so uncomfortable that the photo is therefore a triumph and you, a genius. I interpreted this concept at first as just a very effective way to justify a crap photo - no one can ever criticise your work as you can always say," But no, no, no, I was creating tension in this shot and therefore it is brilliant and I am truly a magnificent being."

As I looked again at this shot I realised I had in fact created this mystical 'tension' because all i want to do as i look at it is to pull up my stocking. It's all I can think of, It has created so much tension I have developed an ulcer just looking at it and a woman walking past my house has just complained of a headache.

My own version of the worry doll tradition.

Looked like student work. Now I aspire to that. January 3, 2017

Tonight after dinner at a Mexican restaurant we were each presented with a worry doll. All we have to do is put it under our pillow, and it will take away our worries!

I am grateful for a lovely dinner, a fun waiter, and my worry doll.

Ahh!! Where is Phobie?? It's Fear Friday! Don't worry, Phobie was just upset that we put pecans in her dressing room when she wanted walnuts. She refused to come out until her demands were met.

So rather you get my crappy version of poor versus rich. I can't tell you how many times I edited and re-edited and scraped my editing for today's picture...and I'm still not happy with the results. Gah...not a good day.

In other news, happy birthday to curiousillusion! Go wish her a happy birthday, she takes some amazing pics! (even if she doesn't think so)

Also, Garry is going to live with his dad next week. It feels nice to breathe again knowing he'll have a place to sleep and food to eat. Of course he'll be treated like he's 5 but at least he'll get away from his abusive mom and hopefully begin his life up there on his own. The hope is his step grandmother's god child can get him into a Target close by to earn some money and move out on his own. That's the hope...

I've been listening to music a lot lately to get me through things. I'm curious as to what everyone listens to...let me know! (that and I really want some new songs to listen to lol)

So yeah...sucky picture. I'm ready to be done with this 365 so I can get to work on learning about my camera. I decided if I can't get a Danbo I'm going to have a 365 of one or two of the wooden human figurine things that people get to draw...I'll just draw a face on it and go from there. (Though I really do want a Danbo...darn thing why must they be so expensive??)

TRF: Next weekend I'm going back to Ohio for a week...and rather than flying I'm taking the train. I'm super excited about it! I just wish I had Danbo or the figurine with me to explore the train...I may take Garry Jr or Inwe and Rubio.

This is the start to a sermon slide set. As you can see the sermon title is worry. This will be a projected piece only no print. Sermon text is from Matthew 6:25-34.

This is a 2-up series (sept 4 + 11), and I need artwork ready for this Sunday for promotion purposes. I'm waiting on some feedback from my Pastor, but in the meantime I'd love to get some designer feedback.

Stuff you should know: This will be used for Slides and a bulletin (and an ad on our webpage) but not much else. The title given to me was WORRY, with key text being Matthew 6:25-34 (God takes care of the birds of the air... and so on).

I took some liberties with the title on this one (added "don't ... it's for the birds") but ultimately this is a series about worry.. or rather, not worrying. Hopefully that's still being conveyed.

One last thing: I'm really trying to get out of a design rut I've been in lately... soooo yeah. :)

No worries - my better half and Mike B. put out the fire post haste with the nearby fire extinguishers, thankyouverymuch.

The very dead Westland Mall in Columbus. It is one of four "directional" malls in Columbus, along with Northland (demolished), Southland (closed), and Eastland.

Built as an open air center in 1969, it was enclosed in 1982, and hasn't been touched much. It has one remaining anchor (Sears), two empty anchor slots (Lazarus/Macy's, and Penney's), and Staples as a junior anchor, which has no mall access.

If Westland is still open this time next year, I'll be surprised.

There is a legend amongst the Highland Indian villages of Guatemala:

"If you have a problem, share it with a worry doll. Before going to bed, tell one worry to each doll, the place them beneath your pillow. Whilst you sleep, the dolls will take your worries away".

Finally. A photograph that is not Death Valley. Don't worry, there are still more Death Valley photographs, and this one did come from the same trip. On our return from Death Valley we swung through the LA Basin to visit our daughter and son-in-law, replacing natural pleasures with the distinctly urban experiences of Los Angeles. On April 1 we went to Venice Beach to visit the G2 Gallery, where photographer friends exhibit from time to time. (We enjoyed the gallery quite a bit — some lovely photographs by Clyde Butcher and Jack Dykinga were featured that week.)

Out of the gallery and on the street I had an opportunity to play with a new camera, my Fujifilm X-Pro2, which had arrived shortly before we left for Death Valley. The street being the perfect place for such a camera, I pulled it out and made a few photographs. Initially I expected that this would be a color photograph, but as I worked on it in post I began to feel that it had potential in black and white.

Mother's Worry is a piece about stress. I use the surreal imagery of the mother turning into moths and butterflies to show how stress can corrode and decay us.

"Let's Live For Today"

The Grass Roots

When I think of all the worries

That people seem to find

And how they're in a hurry

To complicate their minds

By chasing after money

And dreams that can't come true

I'm glad that we are different

We've better things to do

May others plan their future

I'm busy loving you

One, two, three, four

Sha-la-la-la-la-la, live for today

(Hey, hey, hey)

Sha-la-la-la-la-la, live for today

And don't worry 'bout tomorrow, hey

Sha-la-la-la-la-la, live for today

Live for today

We were never meant to worry

The way that people do

And I don't need to hurry

As long as I'm with you

We'll take it nice and easy

And use my simple plan

You'll be my lovin' woman

I'll be your lovin' man

We'll take the most from living

Have pleasure while we can

Two, three, four

Sha-la-la-la-la-la, live for today

(Hey, hey, hey)

Sha-la-la-la-la-la, live for today

And don't worry 'bout tomorrow, hey

Sha-la-la-la-la-la, live for today

Live for today

Baby, I need to feel you inside of me

I got to feel you deep inside of me

Baby, please come close to me

I got to have you now, please

Please, please

Gimme some-a loving

Gimme some-a loving

To gimme some-a loving

To gimme some-a loving

Baby, gimme some-a loving

Gimme some-a loving

Got to have all your loving

Gimme some-a loving

I need all your loving

Give me some love now

I need all your loving

Sha-la-la-la-la-la, live for today

(Hey, hey, hey)

Sha-la-la-la-la-la, live for today

And don't worry 'bout tomorrow, hey

Sha-la-la-la-la-la, live for today

Sha-la-la-la-la-la, live for today

St Margaret’s Convalescent Hospital was the brainchild of the Hart family of Glanville Hall.

Captain John Hart’s daughter Margaret realised the plight of the poor who came out of hospital to go into homes where worry waited for them. She bought and furnished a three-roomed cottage near the sea, providing a place for people to rest and recover.

Most of the provisions came from Glanville Hall, and the home was the hobby of the women of the household.

Shortly before his death in January 1873 Captain John Hart made a donation of £100 towards establishing the cause that became St Margaret’s Convalescent Hospital: his family later raised the fund to £800 and private subscriptions increased the amount to £1,000.

Plans for the structure were gratuitously prepared by Thomas English, architect, and a contract for erection of a portion of the proposed pile was let to Charles L Gardiner, whose tender amounted to £800.

On 14 September 1874 Mrs Musgrave, wife of the Governor, laid the foundation stone of the new hospital on land given by Thomas Elder. It was a four-roomed building with kitchen and laundry, built as a memorial to Captain Hart. That section is the centre of the present hospital.

A scroll placed beneath the stone read in part – This institution has been founded by public subscriptions to afford the benefit of sea air to convalescent patients of the Adelaide Hospital, and others who have not the means to obtain relief without assistance.

From its inception Margaret Hart (Mrs John Hart) was the Secretary and Mrs Musgrave the Patroness of the hospital.

The first annual report showed eighty-four patients had been admitted in twelve months. In 1877 the building was incorporated. Committee Management determined in purchasing several allotments of land from Captain Tapley at a cost of £313.

In June 1878, the size of the hospital was doubled by the erection of a wing costing about £368, built by Mrs E W Andrews in memory of her late husband, Edward William Andrews: the wing was opened 9 December by Lady Jervois, without any public ceremony. Space was then available for twenty patients.

A harmonium was presented to the hospital by Mrs and Miss M Hart.

In 1889 it was suggested that the convalescent hospital provide for children suffering from bone and joint diseases. Consequently, John Howard Angas, politician and philanthropist, contributed £1,889 10s towards a new wing: subsequently named the J H Angas Wing.

Plans were drawn by Messrs Garlick & Sons, architects, and the contract went to Messrs Ashwood and Powell. The wing had a frontage of 74 ft and depth of 53 ft. Included were two dormitories, playroom, nurses’ and servants’ rooms.

A tower 52 ft high occupied the central part of the building, with a lift to convey patients to the top of the building where a lookout was to be erected. The wing was to be built of Dry Creek stone.

On Saturday 7 June 1890 the foundation stone of the J H Angas Wing was laid by Mrs Kennion, wife of Bishop Kennion, Anglican Bishop of Adelaide.

This wing gave the hospital a total capacity of fifty-seven beds.

The Hart family’s connection to the convalescent hospital has been unique. By the 1930s the secretary was Miss M Hart, niece of the founder Margaret Hart. Mrs John Hart held the secretaryship until she was over the age of eighty.

December 2012...

Hi guys... Remember me...? I'm sure you remember 'Ted' at least!!!

These are the last photo's I've taken, since I've been off with this Wretched Wrist!

On the left - Sept 4th, the day before I had my cast off, on the right Sept 7th 2 days after...

My hand looks so disgusting and wrinkly! It actually swelled u again not long after this shot!

On the one hand for much of the time I Iiterally couldn't hold a camera...

And on the other hand I've been so knocked around by the medication on the road to recovery, that I've not had the energy, the enthusiasm or the head space to take any photos.

I've missed you all HEAPS and have really missed taking photos too! Unfortunately for me, I've had a bit of a painful and difficult recovery... Since having the cast removed I was diagnosed with 'CRPS' - 'Complex Regional Pain Syndrome' - The name kind of says it all really! Complex and Painful.... So THAT's the reason why i've been away SOOOOO LOOOONG. I'm a hell of a lot better now, but still struggling to get the pain under control... At least I have Ted to look after me!

Tomorrow is the 1st of December... in fact down here in NZ it is officially less than an hour away...

I've been in a dilemma over the past two weeks as to whether I would be up to doing my December Diary this year. It's a project close to my heart, as I've been doing it for the past 21 years! Hard to believe really... I came to the conclusion in the past couple of days that I really MUST do it... and was helped along with the encouragement of a few dear Flickr Buddies!

I'm really sorry I've not been around and am so out of touch with what everyone's been up to over these past four months! I'm looking forward to catching up with you all in time... I know realistically I won't be able to manage to pop in every day, but I'll do my best... and with the Dec Diary Project I certainly will be making a every effort to! It's good to be back! %-)

Wishing you all an absolutely Fantastic December...

And looking forward to sharing it with you!!! %-)

I've sooo missed the Music Monday Group too...

Here's a lovely little song I've had on my mind a bit...

over the past couple of months too...

And wanted to share it with this photo of Ted...

He's my little Rock... %-)

Why Worry.....

There should be Laughter after Pain...

There should be Sunshine after Rain...

These things have always been the same...

So Why Worry Now....

Am off to bed now... Will catch you tomorrow.... X
