Rowel, construction worker.

We met Rowel (50 yo) in Dauin in the construction site of the resort of a good friend. Him and his workmates accepted to be taken in picture.

We will go back next month to meet them again for the construction of bamboo bungallow. :)

The resort name is "la tortue, Diving center" and promises to be extremely nice specially for the divers in the Negros. :)

I came across this lady in a Sesame Seed Village in Began - the main work of this village was to grow and collect these seeds.

This lady was the oldest in the village but I couldn't quite work out her age which I believe was 80 something. I was concerned that her eyes looked like she had cataracts. I don't believe that people in this country which is a developing country have the care like we do with the NHS.

Title

Migratory worker in auto camp. Single man, speaks his mind. "Them WPAs are keeping us from a living. They oughtn't to do it. It ain't fair in no way. The government lays them off (that is in Work Projects Administration - 1939) and they come in because they're locals and take the jobs away from us that never had no forty-four dollars a month. I came out of Pennsylvania, used to be an oil worker. I'm getting along in years now and I seen lots of presidents and lots of systems. Voted for Roosevelt both times and I don't know of any president that ever leaned toward the laboring man like him, but this system they've got here in the fruit is a rotten system the way they work it." In Ahmedabad, I chanced on a metal works with various lathes and machinery and about three or four people working therein.

One particular fellow had a wild look about him, and all approaches were met with a stony stare. I was struck by the metal dust and oil ingrained in his hands. After a lot of miming with the camera about taking his picture, he gave that shake of the head which in India means “yes”.

This is the result.
