33 and 31 (I think), Cairns Street, Kangaroo Pojnt, Brisbane.

The cottage on the left (33) is one of three built for and likely by John Mullen as a rental property. Mullen built his own house, likely 35 Cairns Street, circa 1876-8, adding the three rental properties in 1886, at the height of a building boom in Brisbane. The building boom also saw dramatic residential growth in Kangaroo Point and confirmed its position as a popular residential area. Mullen’s cottages were rented to tenants until well into the twentieth century. They were restored in the 1980s and were converted to offices in 2009. These cottages form part of group of nineteenth century cottages still extant in Cairns street.

In later years, they were located very close to the Evans Deakin Shipyard. The whole area has now been entirely revitalised following the closure of the shipyards with upmarket high and low rise housing beside the river. The main dry dock still exists as part of the overall development. Where heritage housing is retained, thankfully most has been nicely restored.

Two young women from Mandalay, Myanmar are working to carry clay from a boat floating on the river to a truck. The work is divided among these 2 women such that the first woman carries the basket half-way from the boat and the other woman carries it the other half-way to the truck.

Rowel, construction worker.

We met Rowel (50 yo) in Dauin in the construction site of the resort of a good friend. Him and his workmates accepted to be taken in picture.

We will go back next month to meet them again for the construction of bamboo bungallow. :)

The resort name is "la tortue, Diving center" and promises to be extremely nice specially for the divers in the Negros. :)

Focus ever so slightly off. I took this before I had a Zeiss glass multicoated diopter made by an optician for my 67. The improvement is dramatic, and now I hit the focus every single time.
