Before the risin' sun, we fly

So many roads to choose

We'll start out walkin' and learn to run maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Koala%20dAlliez/253/101/22

And yes, we've just begun

Famous words from a beautiful song came to mind when editing these photos.

Well it was when I took this shot back in 2017 , but I have seen pics of the Spit flying since then . Just search " AR501 " and you will see what I mean . Shot taken at Old Warden airfield , home to the Shuttleworth Collection . One of the first things you note about this Spitfire is the clipped wings unlike the normal wing shape one normally associates with a Spitfire .

Supermarine Spitfire MK Vc AR501 was built by Westland Aircraft at Yeovil as a Mark VC and issued in 1942 to No 310 (Czech) Squadron based at Duxford. During 1942 and 1943 she undertook escort duties to USAAF bombers, including the famous ‘Memphis Belle’, of the 91st Bombardment Group. After WW2 AR501 was used as an instructional airframe at Loughborough College before being acquired by the Shuttleworth Collection in 1961, together with the Collection’s Sea Hurricane, in exchange for a Jet Provost.

In 1968 the aircraft was returned to flight for the Battle of Britain film. A major overhaul was carried out in the early 1970s. The aircraft was airworthy from 1977-2005, then removed from service for overhaul. AR501 was displayed for many years in the clipped wing configuration which further improved maneuverability at low levels, bearing the livery of No.310 (Czech) Squadron while on operations in 1942-43. In mid 2000 the elliptical wingtips were refitted when the aircraft took part in the filming of Pearl Harbor, in which it played a fictitious member of an Eagle Squadron. In 2005 the Spitfire was due for a major overhaul but, as the previous significantly major overhaul had been as far back as 1975, after careful inspection the decision was made to undertake a complete strip down and rebuild to original specification with areas of the structure still showed evidence of wartime repairs.

Following a 10 year in house restoration by Shuttleworth’s full-time engineering team and the collection’s skilled volunteers, Spitfire MK Vc AR501 made her first post restoration flight back on March 20th 2018 and wears the original livery of RAF 310 (Czech) Squadron, with whom she saw front-line service during 1942-1943.

I used my Tamron 35 mm lens instead of my Canon 100 mm lens and was very pleased with its performance. Composition needed to be adapted. A stack of 12 focus points at a single exposures level. A ring light around the lens and a powerful LED work-light were used to produce the lighting.

Aquilegia (common names: granny's bonnet or columbine) is a genus of about 60-70 species of perennial plants that are found in meadows, woodlands, and at higher altitudes throughout the Northern Hemisphere, known for the spurred petals of their flowers. The genus name Aquilegia is derived from the Latin word for eagle (aquila), because the shape of the flower petals, which are said to resemble an eagle's claw. The common name "columbine" comes from the Latin for "dove", due to the resemblance of the inverted flower to five doves clustered together. The Colorado Blue Columbine (A. caerulea) is the official state flower of Colorado. Large numbers of hybrids are available for the garden, since the European A. vulgaris was hybridized with other European and North American varieties. Aquilegia species are very interfertile, and will self-sow. Some varieties are short-lived so are better treated as biennials.

In the very early 60s, one of my favorite TV shows was Dobie Gillis. I especially loved the the beatnik character, Maynard G. Krebs. To Maynard, 'work' was a dirty word, and whenever he heard the word, he was suprised. His eyes would widen and his voice would go up as he repeated,"WORK?!"

Here's a YouTube clip from this very old series:

Today, my summer vacation is over, and I'm back to work. Or should I say, "Work?"

I just put a 28 inch light bar on the front of my work truck. It also has LED lights in the rear for backing up, a necessity for very rural West Virginia mountainous back roads. I just ordered a 45 inch light bar for the top.

This little number that isn't that little really needs a little to make it fit. I've had this dress some time and it never got worn because it was too small and pulled in all the wrong places and so it got forgotten about.

That until the other day when I pulled it out of the closet. Problem is now its gone the other way and it too big :-(

It needs to be taken in across the boobs for a good fit. however that didn't stop me wearing it last nice to have a little dance.

... in my studio. In the centre of the frame is a watering can of which I am adding mosaic art. Once the letters (which are applied in reverse) are glued to the watering can, water is applied to the paper backing to reveal blue tiles, in the form of my best friend's name, Trevor and his partner, Sean. It will be part of their wedding present in September if all goes well with the project.

The art form of mosaicing is called the indirect method. It takes a bit more concentration than the direct method of tiling, but it's also great fun.
