Fuzzy Common Ringlet resting on a Queen Ann's Lace flower head. These critters are Canadian migrants that have become localized. They are in their second flight.

Florida is cattle country¹ my friend.
And if you're more than 20 miles from the coast, you'll be seein' a whole lotta these guys alongside the road, as you drive down Florida's smoooth (a.k.a. well maintained) state highways.

I went skydiving yesterday. :)
More photos here. Let me know if you can't access them.

The matted stringy feathers on this Wood Stork nestling's head, neck and chest look more like wooly fur than feathers.

Ben and Bevan make up the miracle two-piece known as "The Frank Woo". This shoot was coordinated with a music video shoot for their single "Last Of The Living", for the motion picture of the same name.
You can check out the "Last Of The Living" Trailer at Gorrila Pictures. See the zombie killing Ford Cortina in action!
Strobist: I had someone holding a large diffuser to shade them - Grecco styles, from the "sunswatter" video - Then I used two speedlights.
1x 580EX on camera left for main light at full power,
1x 430EX camera right and behind subjects, just out of frame for hard rim light, also on full power.
I like how removing the sunlight and using artificial sources gives a "super-imposed" look.
I have always been fascinated with caterpillars since I was a kid and my mother was always telling me not to pick them up because I would get a rash! As you can see I didn't listen!
I like the Wooly Bears, they are not soft like they look, their coat is made up of dense bristles and when they are frightened they curl up in a little tight ball to protect their undersides.
They travel at .05 miles per hour or 4 feet per minute.
I have a fantastic book Naturally Curious that is a month to month guide to the fields, woods and marshes of New England, I have learned so much about nature around here from that book, I would recommend it to anyone in New England that is interested in the natural world around them.
We stayed at Lake Crescent in Olympic National Park at the end of our road trip and where we were camped was right near a couple of docks.
I showed John some of Tacky's masks and he wanted to try out one while we had the docks but we used his camera for that shot.
Afterwards, I setup my camera on the shore and just spun some classic steel wool. Nothing too special about it, just taking advantage of the reflections of Crescent Lake.
Straight out of the camera with no adjustments.
Had a blast this weekend back to the dunes and a few other places. I had the very best time and couldn't have asked for a better weekend. The best company too!
A true adventure of sorts! :)
Up on a hill near Llyn y Dywarchen, Rhyd-Ddu (that's in Wales btw :p) at the weekend, I was there minding my own business when all of a sudden I spotted Wooly the sheep was taking an interest in what I was doing. Fortunately he sat down to enjoy the show on display in the heavens just like I was.
This is a stitch from 11 individual portrait images I took. It's been a while since I took a really long panorama and clearly i'd forgotten some key things, like making sure the tripod was straight :P I had to correct some parts of the image in post-pro to straighten them out.
Even at somewhere as dark as Llyn y Dywarchen, the camera picks up the annoying orange glow from distant cities, I so need to take a trip to a desert to get some dark skies.
Flickr will no doubt make a pigs ear of showing this panorama, so please press L or click the image to view larger (and click "all sizes" in top-right to view super large).
