Artificial light: one light source + reflector

This is a post in response to several threads in the Strobist group (I have seen it pop up on UTATA and the Canon DSLR User Group as well) asking how does one connect a Pocket Wizard or an E-bay Trigger to a Brand-X flash.

The key component in use here is the Wein HSH ( which sells for about $30). As Dave Hobby mentions in a post from Sept. 2006 this little device lets you connect a flash without a PC-synch terminal on it (Sigma EF-500 DG Super users I'm looking at you) to a variety of trigger devices. This allows me to use my flash with:

* a DIY-sync cord

* a Gadget Infinity Trigger

* a Pocket Wizard

The advantage of the house-hold connection is it is a lot stronger than a standard PC connection. As also mentioned in the post, another nice feature of these adapters is they have a 1/4 x 20 mounting thread on the bottom. Since the bodies are aluminum they make for a sturdy flash mount.

I connect my flash to the Gadget Infinity triggers via a standard PC-to-HH sync cord. I just let the trigger hang by the cord because it is so light. This helps solve two of the annoyances of these triggers:

1. It provides for a more solid flash mount

2. It brings the flash more in line with the center of the umbrella.

Using a small length of zip cord, a house-hold plug (bought from the hardware store for $1), and standard 1/8 mini-plug (Radio Shack for $1.50) I made my own sync cable. I can now connect my Pocket Wizards to any flash.

Crater Lake, OR.

Here you go. A couple of ninja torsos and a handful of bits from the fig drawer. I did my best with the green and purple scheme but my bits in those colours are limited. Hope there's something useful in here for you!

OK, this is actually a girl wizard...is there such a thing? Or does that make her a witch? :-P

The conditions on my visit to Crater Lake last month were not 100% ideal, but inclement weather adds to the beauty that is Crater Lake! Two grand firs bracket the view of Wizard Island from the south rim.

After a couple months of searching the web, I've finally narrowed the colors down to these 4, and yes, Anagan's hair actually is yarn. Braiding it sounds like too much work.

It'll be a while before I actually get started, but here's this pic so you have an idea for what's in store eventually. ;)

This is my third fold of Kamiya`s Wizard. I folded him with a 40cm * 40cm square of Origamido paper. I know the shaping of the head is not so good and I will try it again with a better shaping. The finished model is about 13cm high.

After making some little witch and wizard amigurumis, I decided that I needed to make some even smaller pets for them.

I made a tiny black cat and a snowy owl, each only 1.5" tall. You can get the patterns to make them yourself on my blog.

“Magic exists. Who can doubt it, when there are rainbows and wildflowers, the music of the wind and the silence of the stars? Anyone who has loved has been touched by magic. It is such a simple and such an extraordinary part of the lives we live.”

Tried getting as much details as possible into the face but it can still be improved a lot.

photo from this past halloween. myself, scott and tom. this was taken at dinderbeck gallery in grand rapids at the opening for our little group show. the opening was pretty bitter sweet for me, although we had a great turnout, it more or less just turned into a party. this kid knocked down one of my drawings while he was leaned back chugging his beer and then i'd had it. heres to trying to more " professional " in 2011 ....
