I didn't do any editing on this photograph, and this was actually taken with my cell phone! The pavement for some reason decided to look blue in the picture, which I thought was really cool, although I didn't notice it when I first took the picture. I found a large ring of wire about the size of my head on the side of the road near a friend's house, and while I was walking to another friends', I bent and twisted it into the shape of a cross. This has a significant meaning to me because I am a Christian. I love this photo and I hope to take more like it.

Project Statement:
The original images that inspired the forms that went into my drawing were a Russian nesting doll I have at home and a light post outside of my apartment. After combining the two wire sculptures to see what the shadow would like it, it pretty much retained the same figures, for example the light post still looked like a light post. Even though the resulting shadows weren’t as abstract as others, I liked the idea of multiple light posts with a grouping of what seemed like people standing around and conversing. And since I had already previously made a light post wire sculpture, I wanted to expand on that thought and see if I could make a better and cleaner version. To construct the light posts, I twisted together two wires to make the core, something that could stand on its own and have wires built off it to achieve the final light post-ish look. I then used four individual wires and measured them to make sure they were all of even length. They were all too long to stand on their own so I tied them all together with the core. I previously had only one coil of wire to tie them together but decided that multiple sections of coil would make the sculpture more stable, also I liked the way it looked. Instead of coiling a single wire around the whole length of the light post, I decided to only do certain sections. What was left in between reminded me of the inner workings of the light post, like electrical wires and such. I originally planned to do only two light posts of equal height but after I finished the first one and compared it with my original light post I made previously, which was much smaller, I liked the idea of the light posts getting smaller as they went further back to imitate a large area of space. This idea then lead me to incorporate my original smaller light post into my final sculpture. I figured that since it was the least clean piece it would make sense to have that one in the back because as things get farther away you start to lose the shape of objects, also you could see the comparison of the light posts to the other two I made. After placing all three light posts in a diagonal line, again to imitate distance and receding back into space, I made my three bulbous figures to stand at the front light post. I originally planned to make the figures 3-dimensional by placing two wires of the same shape intersecting each other but opted for 2-dimensional figures for aesthetic reasons. I liked the simplicity of the figures compared to the light posts. Technical-wise, I prefer the cleanness of the first and biggest light post sculpture and decided it would be best to make it less and less clean as the light posts got smaller and “further away.” I liked the progression of ideas that lead me to my final wire sculpture but worry that in the end that it wasn’t abstract enough and too clear of a story, which ultimately would be uninteresting.
