This was spotted by NogBaad at Hanningfield Reservoir. I took a photo as well because I love the contrast between the barbed wire and the sheep's wool!

Our friend Ang came to stay overnight on her way to Ross-on-Wye, so we took the opportunity to watch our latest LoveFilm delivery with her - Man on Wire, the story of Philippe Petit and his walk across a wire between the twin towers of the world trade centre.

Philippe Petit is undoubtedly one of those people you would put in the class of a genius - with the kind of mental imbalance you might expect from someone of his kind - and it was fascinating to see the difference between how his friends were treated (friends, without whom, his illegal stunt would never have happened, and who were immediately deported from the country), and how quickly Philippe's celebrity status meant he escaped charges and went on to live a comfortable life in America.

What a bizarre world we live in.

Wired and the impossible shoe. No, really.

A wire is taped to the top of each aluminum tape pad and soldered to a cable wire. The guitar string is wedged in a slot on the PVC tube. The string is soldered to a cable wire. When struck, the string contacts a pad, closing an electric circuit, triggering a drum sound.

I have no idea what this colorful wire was used for, but it sure looks cool. I found it on the street in Amsterdam.

December 4, 2013, 10:58 AM Central Time. I-70, near Manhattan, KS. Kansas, at least the parts I drove through, isn't really that flat. The wide open space does allow for plenty of wind gusts that try to blow your car off the highway; a nice follow up to the ice in Colorado that blocked my view of the top half of my windshield.

I haven't been on the wired blog for almost four years. Oddly enough

their geekdad segment picked up a story on our papercrete battery room.

Draadstertswael

(Hirundo smithii)

The wire-tailed swallow (Hirundo smithii) is a small passerine bird in the swallow family. It has two subspecies: H. s. smithii, which occurs throughout Africa, and H. s. filifera, which is found in southern and southeastern Asia. It is mainly resident, but populations in Pakistan and northern India migrate further south in winter. The genus name Hirundo is the Latin word for swallow. The species name smithii commemorates Christen Smith, a Norwegian botanist and geologist.

The wire-tailed swallow is a small swallow, measuring 18 cm (7.1 in) in length. It has bright blue upperparts, bright white underparts and a chestnut cap. Immature birds lack tail wires, and have dull brown (rather than chestnut) caps. The species is named for the very long filamentous outermost tail feathers, which trail behind like two wires. The sexes are similar in appearance, but the female has shorter "wires". Juveniles have a brown crown, back and tail. The Asian form, H. s. filifera, is larger and longer-tailed than the abundant African H. s. smithii.

The neat half-bowl nests are lined with mud collected in the swallows' beaks. They are placed on vertical surfaces near water under cliff ledges or more commonly on man-made structures such as buildings and bridges. The clutch is three to four eggs in Africa, up to five in Asia (Turner and Rose). These birds are solitary and territorial nesters, unlike many swallows, which tend to be colonial.

This old fence post and barbed wire caught my eye, i don't know why? I used a very small F22 to try and keep some of the landscape in focus. The backdrop is Mottram in Longdendale with Mottram church sat high on War hill. Beyond that is the part of the peak district.
