There's a certain Slant of light, Winter Afternoons-- That oppresses, like the Heft Of Cathedral Tunes.
~ Emily Dickinson
Relaxing and clearing my mind while watching the sunset after a busy day. This is one of my favorite spots that I can reach in just very short time from home. Girenbad / Tösstal, Switzerland.

A winter's day - in a deep and dark December
I am alone - Gazing from my window to the streets below On a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow...Paul Simon
(my all time fave song by S&G)
Not much sign of the sun this week. Managed to capture it filtering through the clouds, A low sun filtering through the clouds looking towards Roseberry Topping.

Thank you for stopping by.
Our winter visitor, Burrowing Owl, is still in residence in the farm country of Linn County, Oregon. Neither shy nor flighty, she reluctantly poses.
What a wonderful little spirit!
Winter has been an amazing one with early season rains feeding roots. A handful of native plants have been flowering, but none more obvious than the brittlebush. This area overlooking the mountain range is rich in plant diversity with a previous fire reinvigorating the soil for productive growth. Love finding little pockets in the desert that come together for a fun photo op.
Quick Note: Accidentally added a duplicate watermark. Doh.
One of those winter days when the best place to be is inside. Light, powdery snow, cold temps and followed by high winds. Don't you wish you were here?

I love how the shifting winter light can showcase it's beauty, even, if at times, only for brief moments.
"Winter Wonderland" is a song written in 1934 by Felix Bernard and lyricist Richard Bernhard Smith.
The song's original lyrics were about a couple's romance during the winter season. A later version - which was published in 1947, included a "new children's lyric" that transformed it from a romantic winter interlude to a seasonal song about playing in the snow. And if one is standing in such a landscape, playing in the snow is not only limited to children…. You certainly may assume photographers like me are included!
Since its original recording by Richard Himber, it has been covered by over 200 different artists and photographers.
Technical stuff
This is obviously a HDR shot consisting of 3 photo shot handheld. The numbers are as follows: 320ISO, f10, exposure bias -1/3 EV, 1/100+1/400+1/1600 at 15 mils.
The HDR-merge was done with Aurora HDR 2018. Further post-production included enhancing details, colour toning the sky and adding a couple of copyright signs. The latter is, alas, there to stay due to the frequent copying of my photos. So, don't bother commenting on that.
The drive out of Silverton, Colorado yesterday morning was one of the most spectacular drives ever! The snow had stopped. The sun was out. And. It was COLD!!!!! About zero degrees F.
My Mom and I made it up to my aunts house, which is the only populated town I have been in, in many years with absolutely NO Verizon cell phone service whatsoever. I have been out in the desert, 50 miles from the nearest town, and somehow I still have a bar or two. Downtown Paonia… Nothing! So, I have had no phone or internet for a couple of days. She said that there is one corner downtown that the locals call "Verizon Corner" Visitors in town with Verizon phones have to stand on that corner to get one bar of service.
This is a few miles north of Silverton, around Red Mountain. I think the mountain in the background is Red Mountain. I am not sure though because it was white.
A nice winter sunset over Mounts Bay, West Cornwall. Just me and one other photographer on the beach....don't you just love Cornish winters.
For those of you that like birds and wildlife, we have a Pacific Diver, a very rare vagrant bird, in Mounts Bay at the moment.
Thanks for all the very welcome comments on my last posted image.

With Winter approaching and snow now covering a lot of the higher hills in Scotland, a look back at earlier this year and a memorable day on the Ochil hills when it got its fair share, I am looking forward to more days like this.
