Not the best capture, but didn't have a tripod. One of the beautiful winter sunsets this month by the Cronulla shoreline.
During a smoggy winter evening, I went up into the canyon to get above the inversion layer.
This fisheye view shows the winter Milky Way near Orion. On the right side is the light dome from Provo to the south.

I missed my alarm this morning so had 25mins to grab all my stuff and shove it in a bag, and run the usually 20 minute walk to the station. I just made it on time, had a quick snack on the train, then had to start all over again with a dash up from Hathersage. I quite fancied giving these rocks a go, near the top of Burbage brook with some light on Higger Tor - but they didn't really work as well as I'd hoped. Maybe with some more cloud they'd be okay, or a bit later in the year with a more southerly sunrise.
So, after a relative failure I wandered over the frosty moorland to Stanage Edge and along above the plantation - where I decided I'd had enough of trying to photograph winter for the day and I'd quite like to step back into autumn, where the clear skies wouldn't be such a problem. So I thought I'd walk back to Sheffield via Wyming Brook.
This is quite a walk, 15 miles plus a few more spent wandering around for photos, and I did it all on just a rice crispy square breakfast and chocolate orange bar snack, whilst carrying all my gear and winter clothing.
It was well worth it, however, not only do I get this sense of achievement but it's the first time in a few months that I've just said 'bugger it' to work and spent a day walking where my legs take me. It was lovely. I also found numerous new woodland spots on the outskirts of Sheffield, high above the Rivelin valley that are well worth an explore if any of you are interested - some really stunning woodland.
This is my last entry for 2005. The sun was finally shining today and the opportunities for winter photography were amazing.
Wishing everyone a Happy New Year!
Ice-skating in Bryant Park, in Midtown Manhattan. (Oh, how I hope that this will be the last winter with masks!)
