This was the late January wet, before the snow fell. Shooting through the window screen transformed the scene into a mosaic of wet and gray winter. A melancholy day... nice to be inside with some Coldplay adding to the mood, and working on creative projects.
I like seasonal things. The way the world greens up and comes back to life in spring. Warm sun and long evenings in summer. The neighborhood ablaze with color in the fall. And a 'white Christmas' and the beauty and hush of snowfall in the winter. But this? Cold and gray and wet and drab and dark early... well... takes a little doing to bring out the charm on these kinds of days. Oh, it's there... it's always there... ;)

Last night's Huge windowscreen visitor ID: Longhorn (Prionus) Beetle (exact species to be determined). Entranced and attracted by:
(A) a ripening avocado
(B) my Little Eden artwork on wall
(C)light from the new kitchen lamp
So far from searches I'm thinking it's either Prionus Laticollis (Broad-necked Prionus) or Prionus imbricornus (Tile-horned Prionus).
Beetle species ID help welcomed!
..way.too wet!
Seen at Arlinlington House on the grounds of James and Dolly Madison's Montpelier. I took this on my previous visit to Montpelier. I was raining again this morning. I could have taken the same picture.

This moth was on my window screen and I thought it made a nice image with the light shining through his wings. Species unknown, but based on Maureen's input below, it may be some sort of non-native moth that has invaded Southern California.
L-R Alyssa, Jeremiah, and Zoey they really don't bite but be careful.

The first thing you might notice (besides the security mesh on the window) is the sound of traffic on the busy 4 lane road in front of your house. That would be the same busy road Tessa somehow got across one week ago today.
In this video I am standing outside, in the garden, looking at the window that is in front of my computer monitor.
Regarding the mesh .... we have this heavy duty mesh on all the windows and I feel very safe living here. It's also good for Tessa who, more or less, feels she is outside when she sits or lies down here (although the space is only a window ledge) even when I'm away.

A few photos i took whilst in my car, i was pretty bored and started shooting through the windowscreen, I need to experiment more with my lense's to obtain a better understanding of there use's. I also need to start my uni project cos i found out i have a week less than i thought i had. Which is lame, very lame
I guess a reflector would have been helpful. His skin was dark, his hat created shadows, and the glasses and beard didnt help
Jamaican Girl and I had a hard time getting light in this fellows face. She used a Canon Rebel and me with my Nikon
Imagine, being able to hang from the side of a window screen! This Gray Sparrow and/or his mate, try to get into the living room shutter box every few weeks.
Nikon D5100, AF-S Nikkor 55-200 VR. Big crop, Topaz Adjust, texture by the screen.

it's great to see at least four hungry beaks, each trying to snag a wormy meal ticket all at once. Both parents are commuting from nest to worms and back during almost all of the daylight hours.
Not the greatest photos are shot through window screens, but that's what we have to deal with here. My RX100 did a very good job of grabbing what was there in very low evening light. I furthered the effort with PhotoToaster.
Please welcome the new flower in Large.
Water droplets on my lens
No matter my friends...
Out there, raining like a sieve
A new flower, if you please.

Kat led us to the alley ways that had a series of wonderful Billie Holiday tribute art. Apparently painting window. screens is popular in Baltimore. I like it!
I helped out with this confused driver witg not many passengers on board by printed out A4 paper with Sutton Bushey Road and Morden Station show he can put them up in the front windowscreen as this particular bus type wasn't common for 413 and didn't have the number or destination on the front of the blinds. All the drivers prefer the usual 66 plate Mercedes Citaros on the route, but been receiving some strange workings on the 413 recently a Optare Versa, Optare Solo, a Optare Solo SR and this the Optare Metrocity. Due to one of the Citaros long overhanging front mirrors being damaged in a road accident down narrow road.
One of the windows in the study, where I connect on flickr. Most of the time my attention is focused on the computer screen, not the window screen.
Whilst there was train problems, route 108 operated some extra buses from River Road Garage, they did not have any blind displays & instead had paper route number slipboard reversible cards in the front windowscreen.
Looking closer at this abandoned, weathered farm house (or storage shed) in Inland northern California, one can see the chicken wire window screen only stops the big bugs. Looking at the openings on the far wall, even bigger critters can enter. Tar paper may have once covered the walls.
Location map is only in the general area.

it's addictive. as is playing with my aunt's T1i. good thing i don't have any time on my hands at the moment or i might get a little out of control.
Painting a scene on a fine wire mesh window screen can fool the eye! when you look through the screen toward a light background, you may not see the design, but if there is some shadow or darkness, the painting becomes apparent.
Painted window screens became popular in the early 1900's to protect produce from being left out in summer heat...so pictures of such produce were painted on the screen to let people know what was inside the store...and folks soon realized that painted screens could decorate windows and also provide some privacy.During the day, designs could be viewed from the outside, however people were not able to see inside the home or store...but the homeowner could look out. Many screens were painted in the Baltimore and Charleston areas...but with air conditioning this magical art form declined. Today few remain---unless hand-painted by Folk Artists like me!!!
The painting requires a light touch to keep the spaces from becoming clogged, using little paint, and applying gradually, layer by layer. The result is well worth the effort---a labor of love and magic.~~~Penny
