Me in the wind tunnel

Taken on Tracy, California's freeway at 580 West going to San Francisco. You can tell that I'm on the wheel while taking this picture. Can't help to take pictures of this beautiful scene.

Altamont Pass (37°44’13” North, 121°39’07” West), a mountainous pass in Northern California, is home to one of the oldest wind farms in the U.S. and the largest concentration of wind turbines in the world. Altamont Pass is located one hour east of San Francisco, California and serves as a temperature buffer for the city by separating it from the heat of the San Joaquin Valley. Altamont Pass wind farm construction began in 1981 in response to favorable federal and state legislation that resulted from the energy price increases of the 1970s.

A wind blown tree stands over an old cemetary.

You can just barely see the windmills off in the distance.

(Photo taken somewhere along the DB Bahn ICE route from Hamburg to Berlin, Germany)

Wow! We found a wind farm but the sign said KEEP OUT. So we did.

Maximum stacking. Green energy being gathered just west of Donghai Bridge on Shanghai's coast as the starry night rotates around Polaris.

I planned this shot a few days ago. The rape seed crop contrasted with the blue sky and the old wind pump set it off.

Testing my newly-built wind generator. Built from an old washing machine motor and PVC soil pipe blades, it's intended to charge a battery to power light in a remote stables.

(p.s putting your assistants in mortal danger is NOT the correct way to test such a device)

Wind mills nearby San Fancisco

It was crazy to see this insane wind go against the waves to this extent. There was mist spraying back and it looked amazing!

Permantly settled by the British in 1627, Barbados was quickly brought under agriculture. Due to its shallow clay based soils, Barbados was ideally suited to the growth of sugar cane. The wind mills were of a Dutch design and used to grind the cane to extract the juice for the production of sugar.

This mill, located on Morgan Lewis Plantation is the only fully refurbished example of this type of mill left on the island though many ruins of these mills can be found all over the island.

This is the same "thing" as seen in my Bunker Hilltop Sunset Photo, just seen from a different angle. I'm still not sure what this is. I think it's a siren or some kind of alarm.

I know the whole name thing is a bit overdone but I'm just trying some new things. Oh and this is a 3 exp hdr in photomatix. Then in photoshop I used a bit of digital blending on the sky to get rid of some 'Halo'ing around the siren and clouds.

I never knew this wind farm existed until I zoomed into 300mm for this shot.

After a quick search on Google I found out that this wind farm is called Crystal Rig and is close to Dunbar. I was quite surprised looking at Google maps how far away these turbines are.

It was snowing and windy last night. This shot makes me think of a meteor shower.

Boulder, Colorado. Taken on one of my lunch time fitness hikes at Boulder Valley Ranch.

The view from Tibbetts Point at Cape Vincent, NY.

To residents of Southern Alberta who frequent the Rocky Mountains this will be a familiar image. These are the wind turbines west of Cowley, Alberta. It was perhaps the earliest instalment of a large scale wind farm in Alberta. Now these turbines are dwarfed by much bigger white "sky huggers" which spread as far east as Medicine Hat Alberta.

New to me is luxury cruise ship "Silver Wind". Seen here at Fawley heading for Southampton.

Quite the area in Southern Cali.
