Wind on the Great Kobuk Sand Dunes thrashes the flexible stems of grasses in all directions, resulting in neat circles and artistic patterns around the plants.
Grass creates patterns in sand
A rash of wind turbines have sprung up in the hill around the village where we live in Cyprus. Actually they are quite majestic and though they have changed the feel of our walks in the area, they are curiously interesting to be amongst too. This is an HDR shot, taking advantage of the motion to get a multiple wind blade effect.

No rain this beautiful day, but still very windy, 40+mph. To me, it's only a windy day if it warrants public advisories from the weather service!
Mast is five four-foot sections of 1 1/2 inch schedule 40 aluminum pipe, sleeved with 2" pipe to make the connections between sections. Guy wires (actually florescent yellow plastic line) minimize sway and keep the turbine level in changing winds. The generator unit is pretty sophisticated- it uses a circuit board to change the magnetic fields in the generator windings to prevent over-revving, and has its own adjustable voltage regulator to prevent overcharging the batteries. Manufacturer is Southwest Windpower, Inc., model is Air-X, and I bought it on amazon.com for $500. About another $350 for materials, welding and powder coating on the mast and stand.

Taken on the western end of the delta. Kite Boarder goes flying by as the Wind Generators draw electricity as the air blows past. The kite boarder was moving as fast as a speed boat without the gasoline nor pollution. At times kite boarders would become airborne momentarily.
Siemens Canada announced that it will supply, install and commission one of the largest Canadian wind turbine orders from Samsung Renewable Energy Inc. The wind turbines for the K2 Wind project will be located in Goderich in southwestern Ontario. Along with the South Kent Wind project in Chatham-Kent, this 270-megawatt (MW) project will be the largest wind farm in Ontario, generating clean power for approximately 100,000 Ontario homes
The Wind Energy Technologies Office shared information about the latest in wind technology with the kids and helped them build their own (paper) turbines.

It's been a long time coming, but I finally decided to redo my pirate ship. I have always wanted to build a ship with removable decks so that figures can be placed below. I also decided to break one of my rules and create a set of custom sails for The Jade Wind to really dress it up. When all is said and done, I'm very pleased with the outcome.
Now for a little history...
The Jade Wind is a sailing vessel older than the memory of any of her crew. She has had many captains during her countless decades upon the high seas, and she is known for being one of the fastest vessels to sail the vast oceans that surround Galacia. Her current captain is the rakish scoundrel Luis Emerick. Captain Luis and his motley crew sail the seas in search of treasure, adventure, and opportunity.
The wind power revolution is well underway. I don't know how many of these things would be needed to really make a significant contribution to the nations power needs but they are indemic around my grandparents house and it's not uncommon to see the trucks carrying parts for new ones rolling down the roads.
