One of five new wind turbines just installed at Bilsthorpe, Nottinghamshire. Unfortunately, someone parked a pretty ropy looking old bike in the way!
I missed the instalation of the last blade (?) by a couple of hours! If you look closely you can see a winch cable hanging from a trapdoor at the back of the turbine housing. Aparently this was being used to lower tools down to the ground by the engineers who were still up there!
While originally used to represent the coroporate giant GE, I like this photo for the astheticly pleasing aspects.

I decided to go down to Wreck Beach during the recent storm. It was amazingly cool, with the wind not just gusting to 90 kmh but blowing steadily at that speed. The noise through the trees was intense and the waves had pushed right up to the tree-line.
Made for a very dramatic sunset and I went home full of energy and sandblasted from all the salt and spray!

Erected in 2002, the Wind Turbine the $1.4 million dollar Wind Turbine stands 95 meters above the eastern shore of the grounds and produces 1,800-megawatt hours of energy per year, enough electricity to power 250 homes.
Taken on the 17mile drive in California near Monterey. The trees are permanenly bent this way. There was no wind when the photo was taken.

We have just carried an election on principles fairly stated to the people. Now we are told in advance, the government shall be broken up, unless we surrender to those we have beaten, before we take the offices. In this they are either attempting to play upon us, or they are in dead earnest. Either way, if we surrender, it is the end of us, and of the government. They will repeat the experiment upon us ad libitum. A year will not pass, till we shall have to take Cuba as a condition upon which they will stay in the Union.
They now have the Constitution, under which we have lived over seventy years, and acts of Congress of their own framing, with no prospect of their being changed; and they can never have a more shallow pretext for breaking up the government, or extorting a compromise, than now. There is, in my judgment, but one compromise which would really settle the slavery question, and that would be a prohibition against acquiring any more territory.

Well...it's VERY ODD for South Florida...we went from the mid 80's yesturday to a Wind Chill Alerts/Advisory this early morning and for tonight. We are suppose to have a high in the 50's and lows in the 30's!
The last time we had ANY kind of weather like this was 10 months ago! This kind of event only happens once...and if we are lucky twice a year.
WoO-HoO! I've been waiting for this ALL YEAR!
What a great start to the year...well...it's back to work for me today...
