Prince Township Wind Farm

Christmas Day, 2016, in Kansas. U.S.A.

The sustained winds approached 40 mph, and were unrelenting for about 24 hours. We were forecast to have severe weather because of the tremendous warming trend brought by the winds, and an approaching cold front. We were above normal temperatures [25-35 degrees F.] by the wind having a significant warming effect. Our temperature during Christmas reached the low 70-degree F. area.

Wind power on the Isle of Eigg. There's usually four turbines here but one had been taken down for repair.

A segment of the loose snow located right outside the ski tracks. These are the formations created by strong, long-lasting winds. A beautiful view.

Blogged at The world's gaze

We, we waves

That are rocking the winds

To rest-

Green cradles, we waves!

Wet are we, and salty;

Leap like flames of fire-

Wet flames are we:

Burning, extinguishing;

Cleansing, replenishing;

Bearing, engendering.

We, we waves,

That are rocking the winds

To rest!

* Poem by Johan August Strindberg (1849-1912)

The waves at the surface of the ocean are called wind waves. Waves are set in motion by winds of varying strength and varying size travelling at different speeds. The sea spray that is blown from the waves is called 'spindrift'.

Hello again, Flickr! Gotta say this has to be the first time I've uploaded a new photo from a different shoot every day for 3 days... and if all goes to plan tomorrow might be the fourth!

This is another image in my set of self portraits for my university project which I'm doing inspired by Brooke Shaden, once again shot in the Peak District. This specific location is Winnats Pass, the steep road entrance to a small village named Castleton which I know well after visiting many times as a child either with my Grandparents or on School trips (it's well known for it's caverns and limestone so, of course, was seen as a great place for Science trips). It was lovely to come back again with my Grandparents what must be now around 8 years later, have a meal in a cafe in the town below then drive back to the top of the pass and have them assist me with shooting this image. The sun was starting to set and the weather had been worsening all day - the wind had grown so bad that my tripod wouldn't withstand it, so my Grandma had to hold the camera whilst I triggered the shutter with my remote, then I had to run back and try to keep it in the same place she'd been holding it whilst taking quick expansion shots.

Before Winnats Pass became an incredibly windy road, it was of course a popular walking spot, and is said to be haunted by lost travellers who were murdered there. I think my portrayal of the weary traveller looks more like I'm trying to be someone from Middle Earth though...

However, hope you enjoy as I believe it's one of my best pieces so far (good start to 2012!) and as I said, I hope to upload another new shot again tomorrow!

I tried this few times ago. This was one of my last studio session before I moved in Europe. Since then, I dont have access to a studio or even a camera.

I dont know why I never had these pictures added to flickr !!

This one was my favorite ... because its something I had never tried before.
