Kevin and I take an au natural approach to our yard. One benefit, we have discovered, is that wild raspberries thrive under our care or lack thereof. Kevin has sacrificed a great deal of sweat and a hefty portion of blood (skeeters galore) this year to bring in pail after pail of these delightful treats. So tasty!

British actor Michael Wilding (1912-1979) worked steadily in British films for nearly three decades. Though never a star of the first rank, he had leading roles in numerous films, including several musicals in which he co-starred with Anna Neagle. Wilding moved to Hollywood and was featured in two Hitchcock films, Under Capricorn (1949) and Stage Fright (1950).
Michael Charles Gauntlet Wilding was born in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, England, in 1912. After leaving school, Michael wanted to be a portrait and commercial artist. He left home at age 17 and trained for the career by traveling around nightclubs and cafes in Brussels, Antwerp, and Paris, earning a living by sketching portraits. In 1933, he approached a London film studio for a job as a set designer in the art department. Instead, they invited him to come to work as an extra due to his dashing good looks. At age 21, he debuted as an extra in Bitter Sweet (Herbert Wilcox, 1933) starring Anna Neagle. He was sent to Austria to play opposite Mabel Poulton in Pastorale, which didn't get released. Horrified at his performance he decided to go into rep theatre to learn his job properly and was accepted by Watford Repertory Theatre. In 1934, he made his stage debut in 'The Ringer'. A year later, he made his West End debut in 'Chase the Ace' (1935), and then he returned to films. He had bigger film parts in the sports drama There Ain't No Justice (Pen Tennyson, 1939), Convoy (Pen Tennyson, 1940), and Tilly of Bloomsbury (Leslie S. Hiscot, 1940). He had a good role in Sailors Three (Walter Forde, 1940), and Sailors Don't Care (Oswald Mitchell, 1940). Wilding worked steadily in British pictures for nearly three decades. Though never a star of the first rank, he had leading roles in numerous films, including a part in the classic In Which We Serve (Noël Coward, David Lean, 1942), the story of a British Naval ship, H.M.S. Torrin, from its construction to its sinking in the Mediterranean during action in World War II.
Michael Wilding finally became a film name with Dear Octopus (Harold French, 1943), starring Margaret Lockwood. He followed it with English Without Tears (Harold French, 1944). After the war, he starred opposite Paulette Goddard in An Ideal Husband (Alexander Korda, 1947) based on the play by Oscar Wilde. In the following years, Wilding co-starred with Anna Neagle in such musicals as Spring in Park Lane (Herbert Wilcox, 1948), and Maytime in Mayfair (Herbert Wilcox, 1948). Wilding moved to Hollywood and was featured in two of Hitchcock's lesser efforts, Under Capricorn (Alfred Hitchcock, 1949) with Ingrid Bergman and Stage Fright (Alfred Hitchcock, 1950) starring Marlene Dietrich. Wilding's last film role was a two-line cameo in Lady Caroline Lamb (Robert Bolt, 1972), in which he co-starred with his fourth wife, Margaret Leighton. Michael Wilding passed away in 1979 in London, England. An epileptic seizure triggered Wilding's fall down a long flight of stairs. The head injuries received in that fall proved fatal. He was 66. He was married to Kay Young (1937-1951), Elizabeth Taylor (1952-1957), Susan Neill (1958-1962), and Margaret Leighton (1964 -1976 - her death). The first three marriages ended in a divorce and he had two sons with Elizabeth Taylor, Christopher Edward Wilding, and Michael Wilding Jr. Allegedly, he had a homosexual affair with playwright Noël Coward in the mid-1930s. In 1964, Wilding filed a $3 million libel suit against gossip columnist Hedda Hopper for implying that he was gay in her book, 'The Whole Truth and Nothing But the Truth'. The suit was settled for $100,000.

If you want to know what Wild Africa looks like, I suggest you take a trip to Amboseli. Here, you would find the mighty elephant snacking with the tiny gazelles and cranes with lions lurking in the distance. You will not know which frame to shoot and which frame to ignore. You will also be thoroughly confused about what to focus on; the landscape or the animal. And which animal! Yes, all of this happened to me. I thought I was prepared for the wilderness but I wasn’t. It engulfed me, confused me, delighted me and left me begging for more.
This photo was one of the first wildlife photos I have ever taken, so is very special to me. I remember being outside our beautiful lodge – Ol Tukai and photographing some baboons, when my husband came running and screamed ‘Why the hell are photographing baboons who live here? When there is a herd of wild elephants just outside?’ No offense to baboons, but caught in the heat of the moment I ran, giving our welcoming party quite a scare. Ol Tukai is built around a large watering hole in Amboseli and is a haven for elephant watching. I gaped as a huge herd of elephants strolled by. Then came zebras, then the water buffalos, then more elephants. It was so incredible. Unbelievable. I felt no camera or lens can ever do justice to the beauty I was witnessing, as I tried to capture at least some of it for myself. I still get gooseflesh thinking of that first encounter with Wild Africa.
Btw you can clearly see that the elephant in the background has been enjoying a soak in the muddy waters, his lower half is much darker than the upper!

Wild Boar Fell at 2,324 feet above sea level looks every bit its height here and dwarfs DB Schenker 66076 breasting Ais Gill summit in charge of a Newbiggin to Milford containerised gypsum service. Hell Gill beck in the valley immediately to the right of this image is the boundary between Cumbria and North Yorkshire and the very watershed of England, with the River Ure flowing away to the North Sea and the River Eden to the Solway Firth and Irish Sea. A magical place in any weather conditions!

A wild Capuchin monkey seen at Cahuita National Park in Costa Rica last week. These are very mischievous monkeys which will steal your food when you aren't looking. They are also very cute. We got to witness about 20 of these monkeys fighting over a bag of chips someone left at a picnic area.
We took our whole family to Costa Rica for spring break and we were able to see lots of birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians as well as lots of interesting scenery, plants and trees. it was a wonderful trip and I will miss walking through the jungle.
We had a terrible time with flights though and were a day late getting home and our bags got lost on the way home and didn't arrive until today. I will never ever fly on American airlines or Virgin airlines again. This makes 2 horrible trips with American and the one Virgin flight I had on the way home was enough to put me off that company for ever. Terrible customer service and they had 4.5 hours to get my bags on the right flight after I checked them and they couldn't even do that.
The countryside in north Alabama is filled with white blossoms. Bradford Pear trees had to be cut from the median of one highway in our town due to their obstructing views of traffic. However, the town is filled with what I think are these wild pear blossoms. This photograph was taken just beyond our backyard fence. Morgan County, Alabama - 2018
Marsh Tit
The marsh tit (Poecile palustris) is a passerine bird in the tit family Paridae and genus Poecile, closely related to the willow, Père David's and Songar tits. It is small (around 12 cm long and weighing 12 g) with a black crown and nape, pale cheeks, brown back and greyish-brown wings and tail. Between 8 and 11 subspecies are recognised. This bird's close resemblance to the willow tit can cause identification problems, especially in the United Kingdom where the local subspecies of the two are very similar (there, they were not recognised as separate species until 1897).
Globally, the marsh tit is classified as Least Concern, although there is evidence of a decline in numbers (in the UK, numbers have dropped by more than 50% since the 1970s, for example). It can be found throughout temperate Europe and northern Asia and, despite its name, it occurs in a range of habitats including dry woodland. The marsh tit is omnivorous; its food includes caterpillars, spiders and seeds. It nests in tree holes, choosing existing hollows to enlarge, rather than excavating its own. A clutch of 5–9 eggs is laid.
Nominate race palustris: Black cap and nape with a blue sheen visible at close quarters. The black 'bib' below the bill is rather small; the cheeks are white, turning dusky brown on the ear coverts. The upperparts, tail and wings are greyish-brown, with slightly paler fringes to the tertials. The underparts are off-white with a buff or brown tinge strongest on the flanks and undertail coverts. The bill is black and the legs dark grey. Juveniles are very similar to adults, but with a duller black cap and bib, more greyish upperparts and paler underparts; they moult into adult plumage by September.
