When I was over at the Lower Falls/Maplewood Rose Garden area several weeks ago I spied this one remaining line of wild roses not far from the waterfall. Unfortunately some other wild roses that used to line up with the falls seem to be gone.
What immediately came to mind when I saw these relaxed beauties was a group of young ballerinas relaxing after a long and exhausting practice session.
NO INVITES OR ICONS PLEASE
There's a line of Wild Rose bushes growing in the alley behind my house. They're starting to bud. They'll grow pink flowers. A few years ago, I got permission from my neighbor to dig some of them up and I transplanted them down the street in Hester Park's central flower bed. They're doing good.
The Monnow (in Welsh, 'Mynwy' which mean 'Swift Water') is a truly wild river. It rises in Wales just below the Black Mountains and flows through unspoilt countryside and the occasional village, skirting two medieval castles, in and out of Wales and the English county of Herefordshire (fn fact for part of its length forming the border beween the two countries) until it runs into the River Wye at Monmouth town.
