yoga classes in the morning are almost a must at Woodfordia.

Woodford Folk Festival 2017. The festival runs annually for 6 days and 6 nights from Christmas till after New Years. It is located in a very rural area about 100km north west of Brisbane. This year it is the 31st time the event has been held. They annually tend to get about 130.000 visitors. Most of them camping on site. There are about 438 events held in 35 performance venues. About 2000 performers take part. Lots of national and international acts. As it is the hottest (and usually the wettest) time of the year it is quite a feat. Accommodation is simple. Electricity only at central points. Wifi sketchy. So it is just sweat, mud and fun. (and very little sleep). Lots of street performers also roam the 'streets'. Lots of workshops, lots of yoga. obviously. And so on. A good way to see in the new year

I'm smiling as long as that green light is on:-))

Last year, my friend Anthony showed me the Ez-12 Parabolic Reflector Template, a cheap and easy-to-construct antenna designed to get better performance on a wireless connection.

You can see my attempt above; the USB Wireless dongle is suspended at the focal point of the antenna. The photo doesn't show the back of the antenna, but it is covered in aluminum foil.

Island Acres Motel opened in the summer of 1954 to much fan-faire. Built that spring by Elmo Bevington, who later went on to develop the Monarch ski area, with a a two-part plan for the motel. He constructed the original motel using Gunnison Homes, which has nothing to do with Gunnison, Colorado but was a prefabricated kit home that a buyer purchased from a catalog through a dealer. Bevington just happened to be a Gunnison Homes dealer and offered lots for sale that surrounded the motel.

The motel was expanded in the summer of 1958 to include a duplex, probably in anticipation of the workers that the Blue Mesa Reservoir project would be bringing to the valley. While Island Acres was closed that winter, one of the Gunnison Homes buildings was lost to an unexplained fire. This building was replaced with a full log building that was produced locally. The Loc-Log plant was close to were the airport now sits. Unlike the Gunnison Homes, which seemly only sold a few buildings in the area, one can find many Loc-Log buildings throughout Gunnison, including a church.

In the early 1960’s, the owners of Island Acres moved another log building onto the property. This building originally sat on the Rippling River Ranch, located by the famous Lake City bridges. It was a part of a dude guest ranch that could accommodate up to sixty guests. The buildings were built by the ranch’s owner and his sons. This is our only building without kitchens as all the Rippling River Ranch guests were fed three meals a day by the ranch owner’s wife in their ranch house, which now sits on the north end of Gunnison.

In the 1980’s, two buildings were added on each end of the current configuration, enhancing the tourist court appearance of the motel.
