Away from the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles, a visit to San Diego was also on the cards; the city is the southernmost in the state of California and close to the Mexican border. Having decided to stay in the city for 2 days, one of them was dedicated to seeing the action from the US's busiest single runway airport.
Delta Air Lines continues to hold the distinction for operating the largest fleet of Boeing 757s anywhere in the world, with 127 still in active service operating a vast array of commercial services across the United States either on domestic or international flights. The large fleet mainly stems from Delta not only acquiring a substantial fleet in their own right, but also following their merger with Northwest Airlines back in 2008 and purchasing a handful on the second-hand market.
Delta is one of 2 airlines operating the United States to utilise the stretched Boeing 757-300; the fleet of 16 were all inherited from their merger with Northwest Airlines and are primarily dedicated to high-capacity domestic flights, and feeding capacity through their largest hubs. The type are largely dedicated to flights originating or departing to Atlanta, Detroit and Minneapolis.
Currently, Delta Air Lines operates 127 Boeing 757s, which includes 111 Boeing 757-200s and 16 Boeing 757-300s.

After a brief hiatus to pay my respects owing to the events that took place in my home city, normal uploads are resuming from where I left off... We return stateside to San Diego, a city I look forward to return back to in the near future, thanks to the single runway operations and the variety provided by numerous carriers, both United States-based or internationally.
Ever since Airbus became a partner for the Bombardier CSeries back in 2018 (renaming to the Airbus A220), and taking over the programme in 2020 when Bombardier divested their commercial aviation operations to focus on the business jet sector; the Airbus A220 has continued to garner orders from a variety of customers, even with the technical issues relating to the Pratt & Whitney PW1500G engines.
Delta Air Lines first ordered the Bombardier CSeries back in April 2016 with an initial batch of 75 examples purchased at a steep discount, however this lead to Boeing filling a petition with the US government for price dumping as they were procured at nearly half their production cost, being $19.6 million each compared to $33.2 million. Boeing ultimately won and a tariff was imposed on the Canadian-built airframe, but there was criticism from many that the petition was purely to reduce competition, with order cancellations threatened to Boeing as a result.
This did not deter Delta who would eventually increase the order to 119 airframe, and Boeing ultimately scored an own goal relating to the original Bombardier CSeries programme as Airbus announced a partnership for the airframe in 2018 and to circumvent the increased tariffs, Bombardier CSeries (now Airbus A220) built for US carriers would be manufactured at Airbus's US production facility in Mobile, Alabama; meaning Delta would be acquiring the airframe at the heavy discount when they were originally ordered. The rest you could say is history...
First Airbus A220 deliveries to Delta Air Lines began in mid-2018 with the smaller Airbus A220-100 with that order later consisting of 45 for the variant, all examples having since been delivered with last arriving in March 2022. For the larger Airbus A220-300, deliveries began under 3 years after the first Airbus A220-100 arrived on scene in March 2021 and so far, just 15 examples have been delivered with N315DU being the newest example so far.
Currently, Delta Air Lines operates 60 Airbus A220s, which includes 45 Airbus A220-100s and 15 Airbus A220-300s. Delta Air Lines have 59 Airbus A220-300s on-order.
November Three One Five Delta Uniform is one of 15 Airbus A220-300s operated by Delta Air Lines, delivered new to the carrier on 29th December 2022 and she is powered by 2 Pratt & Whitney PW1521G-3 engines.

Out of the big 3 US-carriers operating in Los Angeles, Delta Air Lines is the largest with a 20% market share; the carrier using the area as a secondary gateway to the Pacific region as well as operating numerous flights to Central and South America, Asia, Australia and Europe.
Delta Air Lines long-haul fleet operating out of Los Angeles is predominantly in the hands of their growing Airbus A330-900 fleet, the hub previously in the hands of their since retired Boeing 777-200ER/200LR fleet that were withdrawn following COVID-19. Whilst Delta utilises Airbus A350-900s into Los Angeles, their only major long-haul route is to and from Sydney, which will expand with seasonal flights to and from Auckland.
One of the busiest long-haul routes out of Los Angeles is to and from Tokyo at both Haneda or Narita... Amongst the many carriers operating flights between the two cities, Delta Air Lines operates a single daily flight between Los Angeles and Tokyo-Haneda (DL7/8) utilising Airbus A330-900s.
Prior to 2020, Delta Air Lines did operate a hub at Tokyo-Narita which was inherited from their merger with Northwest Airlines. Today, Delta Air Lines doesn't even serve Tokyo-Narita, opting to transfer their long-haul network over to the closer Tokyo-Haneda, with their regional flights since been discontinued. Before 2019, the US Department of Transportation launched a tender to award 12 slot pairs for any US-based carrier to introduce direct routes from the US to Tokyo-Haneda. Delta were the big winners being awarded 5 slot pairs, a factor as the carrier does not have a joint-venture relationship with any Japanese carrier, something that American Airlines (with Japan Airlines) and United Airlines (with All Nippon Airways) do have.
Right now, there is debate whether Delta does intend to operate the slots they were rewarded, which is a debate best saved for another day...
Currently, Delta Air Lines operates 64 Airbus A330s, which includes 11 Airbus A330-200s, 31 Airbus A330-300s and 22 Airbus A330-900s. Delta Air Lines have 17 Airbus A330-900s on-order.

Gulaba is a village 6 KM away from Rohtang pass. It is about 4,000 m above the sea level. During the 6 months from November to May/June when Rohtang is inaccessible due to snow,all the skiing and winter sports are held at Gulaba.
At long last, Delta have in their infinite wisdom have brought back Airbus A330s into London Heathrow on a more regular basis... By regular, meaning 5 Airbus A330s operating into London Heathrow a day from their airline's 3 major hubs.
The last time London Heathrow saw regular Airbus A330s from Delta was back in 2009 which was shortly after the airline agreed to merge with Northwest Airlines (which the original 32 Airbus A330s were inherited from) and just as Northwest Airlines have been given slots into London Heathrow after the Bermuda II Agreement ended.
Yes, they have appeared since 2009 albeit on diversion following emergencies, but overall they have been relatively rare. Since then, Boeing 767s provided the majority of Delta's flights, but the introduction of Airbus A330s closely aligns them with joint-venture partner Virgin Atlantic.
Since 25th March 2018, Delta's Airbus A330s became a regular sight once again and now operates 5 daily flights to 3 of the airline's major hubs which are:
-Atlanta: DL30/31 sees the use of Airbus A330-300s, whilst DL32/33 sees the use of Airbus A330-200s.
-Detroit: DL16/17 operates utilising Airbus A330-200s, except on Friday (Saturday from London Heathrow) whereby Airbus A330-300s operate.
-New York-JFK: DL1/401 and DL2/402 operates with Airbus A330-200s, with Airbus A330-300s scheduled on the odd occasion.
Whilst Delta's schedule is pretty much set in stone, the airline is not averse to rescheduling at the last minute. With Delta operating a much larger Airbus A330-300 fleet compared to their Airbus A330-200s, they regularly substitute for the smaller variant... In this case, DL32/33 has often seen Airbus A330-300s instead of Airbus A330-200s; not forgetting that Minneapolis (DL10/11) saw Airbus A330s operate on two occasions instead of Boeing 767-300ERs during the summer schedule.
Checking the upcoming W18 schedule, Delta will continue to send Airbus A330s into London Heathrow but this is subject to change as the airline as yet to publish its full itinerary of proposed changes for the scheduling period.
Even so, it is good to see Delta's Airbus A330s at Heathrow...
Currently, Delta Air Lines operates 42 Airbus A330s, which includes 11 Airbus A330-200s and 31 Airbus A330-300s. Delta have 25 Airbus Airbus A330-900neos on-order, the first due for delivery from 2020.
November Eight Two Zero November Whiskey is one of 31 Airbus A330-300s in service with Delta, delivered new to Northwest Airlines in September 2007 until transferring over to Delta Air Lines in October 2008 following their mergers and she is powered by 2 Pratt & Whitney PW4168A engines. She was the same aircraft involved in the attempted bombing of Northwest Airlines Flight 253 on 25th December 2009.

Prior to the S16 schedule, Delta Air Lines operated all of their flights into London Heathrow with either Boeing 767-300ERs and the larger Boeing 767-400ER, however by 2017 saw all flights go over to Boeing 767-300ERs; and later in 2018 saw flights operated by a mixture of Airbus A330-200/300s and Boeing 767-300ERs.
For the past 3 years, Delta Air Lines have consistently utilised Boeing 767-300ERs on their daily between London Heathrow and Boston (DL58/59). The beginning of the S19 schedule saw Airbus A330-200s take-over since 31st March 2019, but that is expected to change from 20th November 2019 when refurbished Boeing 767-400ERs will take-over.
Currently, Delta Air Lines operates 44 Airbus A330s, which includes 11 Airbus A330-200s, 31 Airbus A330-300s and 2 Airbus A330-900s. Delta have 33 Airbus A330-900s on-order.

It has been a while since last spotting Delta's somewhat sizeable fleet of Boeing 767-300ERs, now just one of 2 main-line carriers operating in the United States that continues operate the type in commercial passenger service, however their numbers are gradually being whittled down as the carrier continues to take delivery of brand new Airbus A330neos and Airbus A350s.
Despite their slow and dwindling numbers with their estimated retirement date expected to be 2025, they continue to be utilised on large number of transatlantic flights from their Atlanta and New York-John F. Kennedy hubs, as well as being utilised on high demand domestic and transcontinental flights. At present, their youngest members are currently having their interiors modified with the introduction of Premium Select (or Premium Economy to you and me!) cabins, whilst those not fitted will largely stick to high capacity domestic and transcontinental flights.
One of the busier international flights that operates to and from Brussels-Zaventem is New York, with 3 major airlines competing on this corridor with a single daily flight provided by each airline. Whilst Brussels Airlines and Delta Air Lines operates to New York-John F. Kennedy, United operates from their large Newark-Liberty hub with their codeshare and transatlantic partner being Brussels Airlines.
Delta Air Lines provides one of the single daily flights between Brussels-Zaventem and New York-John F. Kennedy; DL140/141 operates year-round and utilises Boeing 767-300ERs.
Currently, Delta Air Lines operates 66 Boeing 767s, which includes 45 Boeing 767-300ERs and 21 Boeing 767-400ERs.
November One Two Zero Zero Kilo is one of 45 Boeing 767-300ERs operated by Delta Air Lines, delivered new to the carrier on 10th April 1998 and she is powered by 2 Pratt & Whitney PW4060 engines.
Boeing 767-332/ER(WL) N1200K lifts-off from Runway 26R at Brussels-Zaventem (BRU) on DL141 to New York-John F. Kennedy (JFK).
With it only a month before the S20 schedule commences, a number of airlines are making last minute changes as capacity is adjusted... As demand to the Asia Pacific region has slumped, excess capacity is being spread across other regions to compensate for reduced demand.
For Delta Air Lines where a lot of wide-body demand operates to Mainland China has been temporarily suspended until late-April 2020 at the latest... The changes allows for a reallocation of aircraft capacity as well as to accommodate for aircraft being refurbished, notably the Boeing 767-400ERs.
During the S20 schedule will see nearly all of London Heathrow's flights operated by Boeing 767-400ERs, however as they are being refurbished, a reallocation of aircraft will see them temporarily replaced.
As per Airline Route, here are the following changes:
-Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta: Originally, DL30/31 was to be operated by Boeing 777-200ERs replacing Boeing 767-400ERs effective 31st March 2020, but will instead utilise Boeing 777-200LRs between 31st March 2020 to 20th May 2020. DL32/33 will see Boeing 767-400ERs replaced by Boeing 777-200ERs between 31st March 2020 to 30th April 2020, replaced by Airbus A350-900s between 1st May 2020 to 19th May 2020.
-Detroit-Metropolitan Wayne County: Effective between 1st April 2020 to 20th May 2020, DL16/17 will utilise Airbus A350-900s instead of Boeing 767-400ERs.
As previously stated, Boeing 767-400ERs are being replaced from Atlanta and Detroit only temporarily as Delta are reallocating capacity... Notably, Airbus A350-900s will make their first visit into London Heathrow, as well as the return of Boeing 777s which have since been refurbished with new Delta One Suites.
Currently, Delta Air Lines operates 46 Airbus A330s, which includes 11 Airbus A330-200s, 31 Airbus A330-300s and 4 Airbus A330-900s. Delta Air Lines have 33 Airbus A330-900s on-order.
November Eight Five Three November Whiskey is one of 11 Airbus A330-200s in service with Delta Air Lines, delivered new to Northwest Airlines on 15th September 2004 until 29th October 2008 following the carrier's merger with Delta Air Lines and she is powered by 2 Pratt & Whitney PW4168A engines.

So far, the Boeing 767-400ERs can be seen operating both twice daily flights (DL30/31 & DL32/33) from Atlanta, the single daily flight (DL58/59) from Boston and both daily flight (DL1/2 & DL3/4) from New York-JFK. As the refurbishment continues, Boeing 767-400ERs operate from Detroit, Minneapolis and Portland for the S20 schedule whilst also operating on a reintroduced 3rd daily flight from New York.
Currently, Delta Air Lines operates 77 Boeing 767s, which includes 56 Boeing 767-300ERs and 21 Boeing 767-400ERs.
November Eight Three Four Mike Hotel is one of 21 Boeing 767-400ERs in service with Delta Air Lines, delivered new to the carrier on 6th November 2000 and she is powered by 2 General Electric CF6-80C2B7F engines.

Prior to the beginning of the S18 schedule, trying to find Delta's large fleet of Airbus A330s has been a bit of a struggle... In this instance, Airbus A330s were hard to come at Heathrow following Northwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines merger. Of course, when Northwest and Delta finally had access to Heathrow, their operation lasted a good year before Boeing 767s became the standard.
Fast forward 8 years since the last time Delta and Northwest sent in Airbus A330s on a regular basis, they are back and are providing 5 flights a day out of a possible 9. Their introduction comes as Delta closely aligns itself with Virgin Atlantic in terms of product offering, and dare I say, Delta offers an infinitely better product interior on their Airbus A330s.
The smaller Airbus A330-200s provide 27 weekly flights out of a 35 that are operated generally by Airbus A330s. The A330-200s operate the twice daily flights from New York-JFK, single daily flight from Atlanta and 6 times weekly flights from Detroit. The Airbus A330-300s provides another daily flight from Atlanta, as well as one weekly flight from Detroit.
It is not uncommon for the Airbus A330-300s to deputise for the smaller Airbus A330-200s, and its vice versa for the Airbus A330-200s deputising for the larger sibling. Airbus A330-300s often deputise on the second daily flight from Atlanta, as well as from New York.

The new flagship long-haul aircraft in Delta Air Lines fleet; gone are the Boeing 747-400s and Boeing 777-200ER/LRs, and hello to the Airbus A350-900s for which the carrier has already raked up a sizeable fleet since first taking delivery of their first example back in 2017.
Pre-pandemic, Delta's plans were for the initial order of 25 Airbus A350-900s to operate alongside their Boeing 777-200ER/LRs which had just been refurbished... Of course, COVID-19 paid dividends to that plan and instead the Airbus A350-900s provide the majority of Delta's major long-haul flights. Today, the carrier has 24 Airbus A350-900s in its fleet with a further 20 more aircraft on-order.
When Delta announced they would acquire a 20% share in LATAM Airlines Group in 2019, with Delta assuming purchase rights for a further 10 Airbus A350-900s. Roll-over to 2020 where LATAM announced they will be retiring their entire Airbus A350-900 fleet with Delta Air Lines agreeing to acquire the 9 examples already delivered to their Brazilian-subsidiary. The fleet began the process of being transferred over to Delta in 2021 and would officially operate in service for the S22 schedule primarily from their Atlanta hub to Dublin, Los Angeles and Santiago.
The former LATAM Airbus A350-900s can be denoted by featuring registrations N57*DZ; only 3 have entered so far having been repainted into Delta's livery albeit retain their LATAM interiors awaiting full refurbishment to the same standard as Delta's own Airbus A350-900s. 4 examples are currently in storage undergoing modifications prior to entry into service, whilst a further 2 have yet to officially join the Delta fleet.
Very recently, Delta has been the subject to industry insider rumours that they are looking to acquire 20 of the larger Airbus A350-1000s, which wouldn't come as a huge surprise given Delta are a very loyal Airbus customer.
Indeed, it is nice to see Delta's newest wide-body fleet... Now just to find their Airbus A330-900neos!

November Five Seven Five Delta Zulu is one of 24 Airbus A350-900s operated by Delta Air Lines, initially to be delivered new to LATAM Airlines Brasil on lease from AerCap but not taken up, diverting on long-term lease to Qatar Airways as A7-AQB on 24th July 2019 before returning back to LATAM Airlines Brasil on 30th July 2020 as PR-XTK, however it never entered service with the Brazilian-carrier, instead being acquired by Delta Air Lines on lease from AerCap on 22nd June 2021 and she is powered by 2 Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-84 engines.
