Light shines from above highlighting the little whisps on the abounding foxtails.

Tall church steeples were built as a reminder to stay focused on God from a distant view. To help carry the sound of God throughout the land, that now is the time to worship. They act as a grounding point for our lives here on earth, while giving our souls direction to heaven when that time comes, if you believe.

I felt somewhat like a man of faith when I stood before this spruce. It's steeple of limbs spiraling upwards to great heights, to the heavens if you will. The gentle whisps of wind flowing music of nature to my ears from the birds nestled above me. My life felt grounded to earth's creator, as much as the roots of this spruce below me. I worshiped that moment and was visually blessed by my surroundings.

As beautiful, and purposeful, church steeples are, so is this steeple of a simple spruce, maybe more so.

**EXPLORE** Yes, another sky/cloud shot! Clouds are my favorite thing to photograph. This was taken when the sun was setting last night. It was right before we were leaving to go see the fireworks. I got my mom mad taking this shot, everyone was waiting in the car for me. She doesnt understand why I take so many sky shots. I guess its just my thing, my passion.

At that time in this region, I seldom if ever saw or knew of anyone else taking train photos. There were others, however, but not many. The mix of Alco and EMD diesel power was filling the valley with sound keep that full tonnage train rolling at track speed. From here to Olinger it's uphill. The whisp of exhaust smoke confirms the engineer has found another throttle notch, or maybe two or three.

As I wrote in my blog, I had to keep on spinning around to make sure I didn't miss anything as the mist was rolling in and then whisping away.

I was busy composing another shot when I did another 360˚ check and at a right angle to me was this view. Not wanting to miss the shot before it departed and part of my Carpe 'Diem-ness' I turned my camera around and took this shot.

It would have been great if all of the woods had been this foggy but this was as full on a 'pea-souper' as it got. One aspect of the image that I liked and just as it was on the back of the camera, was it's virtual lack of colour. The only colour is from the dead ferns in the bottom left corner. Other than that it's a Black & White image.

Great Egret

Yes, it was a cold and windy day, and the Egret had found some shelter.

Normally I'd just have acknowledged its presence and moved on, but the whisps of breeding plumage contrasting the dried grasses were interesting

There ain't much to this town, just a railroad yard and some surrounding inhabitants. The entire town is bathed in the sound of idling diesels and the smell of exhaust fumes, just the way I like it. This was the first day of my recent trip and I decided to get up nice and early with my fiance to check out the power for the days 214. We were gifted the exact leaders I wanted, so I decided to stick around in the yard for a while to take some night grabs. Here the power is seen holding notch 4 to build air, evident by the whisps of smoke from the trailing units. As the engineer sat in the cab gathering paperwork, I clicked my shutter and sat in the road like a dork waiting for my little pictures to expose.
