45063 (left) stands on platform four at Derby while working the 1V97 1615 Newcastle - Bristol mail while 45109 stands in the bay platform 5 awaiting to re engine as booked the 1M25 1810 Manchester - St Pancras mail which will arrive on Platform 6 with 25201 in charge on 7th Jan 85......With the freezing cold temperatures the driver is just bringing 45063's steam heat boiler to life hence the whisp of steam from the boiler pipe as the journey down from the northeast didn't require heating until Derby as TPO vehicles are added to the rear of this train during its stop here.
Word went up and down the line of the DRGW Heritage Unit heading east out of Kansas City towards St. Louis on NS Train 223. My thoughts on leaving the house was to give locations further west than I usually travel at try -- so, Wright City.
News that the train was later than expected lead to me relocating to High Hill and then eventually here at Wellsville. I still had a fair amount of time to think and mull over shot options. The sun side was challenging as there were several lineside obstacles - whistleposts, etc - cluttering up the composition. Which lead me to considering the other side of the tracks, the darkside!
It turns out that it didn't matter much. Since, after 3 straight hours of sun out and blue skies, a whisp of clouds rolled in and we had 5 minutes of meh light while the train passsed.

A saturated brick wall that pre-Covid buffered the sounds of great musicians 7 nights a week, silent for now. In earlier years soaked up a different kind of bakery heat from the inside out. Whenever I pass, I whisp a prayer for the lives within and without, past present and future. I hope "another brick in the wall" becomes a reopening when safe.
Just out for a evening flight! ♥

Love is a divine concept is without measure dimension is traveling aimlessly's melody of life ... Love is an endless path is not that forgiving is not want to say yes and give is all there is to give! ... LOVE IS silent voice of reason that is having pain and not feel the silence is speaking is to see the world smile ... LOVE IS blowing nostalgia song is soft and light is dark day is to know who does not know. Love is much more than feeling is whisper of magic is soul food ... Love is here today ... Made poetry! ...

Happy quarta sunset!
Looking down on Ladybower Reservoir from Bamford Edge. The whisps of mist of the mornings temperature inversion melting away.
They were called "tin stackers" for the silver funnels on all the Pittsburg Steamship Company later US Steel lake boats. Lots to like here in this view of the 1938 built steam turbine powered John Hulst loaded up bound at Port Huron, Michigan with a whisp of coal smoke off her stack - September 24, 1978.
In my view a shot of a steam locomotive has to include at least a puff of steam if not billowing clouds of the white stuff. So....choosing a photographic location has to include a gradient or somewhere of acceleration.
I was hoping for such an event at this spot just west of St Davids where the line crosses the storm drains but not even a whisp.
There is more to this steam train photography stuff than meets the eye.
Still, there is no denying she is a beautiful creation and great to see Clan Line hauling 2018s first Torbay Express of the year out of Exeter with Exwick in the background.

If only you knew how rarely I stumble across it. This makes three times. It would be easy to find if it could be defined: studies conducted, equations written, articles composed for the yellowing journals, to be folded between dusty pages, stored in the back corner of a poorly-lit room scattered with stacks of other yellowing journals. If it could be found at need, scribbled down, and folded back into its safe coccoon of fading, even lines of type, I would never mourn its loss. I came close to catching that drifting melody not too long ago--only twice have I held it in my hands, to marvel at it. I barely felt the brush of that piping melody this time, before it wrapped me, wound me, smothered me, then left me gasping, marveling at nothing but the empty heaviness of my hands.

Seltsam, wie viel einem ein Tier bedeuten kann. Whisper kennen manche hier schon, von unserem Pferd gab es ja schon Fotos... Heute war Bruno dran..."

Partial view of the asbestiform mineral chrysotile from Quebec, Canada; showing a partial vein of greenish bundles and white whisps of fibers, as occurs in its natural state.
Chrysotile is one of six currently regulated "asbestos" minerals and is still a legal ingredient in many products in several countries worldwide, including the US.
The visible strands of white chrysotile fibers seen here are actually bundles upon yet smaller bundles potentially containing billions, trillions or more of microscopic unit fibrils, on the order of only angtroms in size.
Coming home after a sunset shoot, the moon shone through a faint red whisp that was reflecting the last of the sun.
Firstly a bit of background. The Heart Nebula complex (Catalogued as IC1805 or Sharpless 2-190) is a large emission nebula revealing extensive amounts of glowing Hydrogen gas with darker dust lanes within. The nebula is found in Cassiopeia.
This strong red output and the entire nebula's shape is driven by the intense radiation of a small group of stars near the nebula's centre. This group is catalogued as Melotte 15.
This image captured in HOO narrowband (with a synthetic green component ) shows Melotte 15 (centre) with its associated knot of glowing Hydrogen gas clouds.
These clouds are sculpted into rope-like contorted, intricate shapes and whisp-like features due to the stellar winds and intense radiation, which is emanating from the young, hot stars of Melotte 15.
Dark dust clouds silhouette the image and the familiar dip giving the Heart nebula its name is visible upper left.
The image was acquired with an Esprit 120ED scope and a ZWO 1600MM cooled camera. Imaged on 14th/15th November.

I also acquired some SII data and I may produce a Hubble palette version later.
Many thanks for looking!

Colas Railfreight 70817 finds a whisp of sunlight as it takes the curve on approach to Helsby with 6J37 Carlisle Yard - Chirk Kronospan loaded logs.
The outcome of a pretty fruitless afternoon out. Finishing work I spotted a couple of things worth a punt at and ended up choosing to chance my luck on 6F05 again. This turned out to be the first of a number of poor choices. On the way it became pretty obvious it wasn't going to be on for the limestone, so looking at the sky, I figured Helsby would be a safe bet for some sun on the logs.
Upon arrival it was looking promising, a big cloud about to pass but there was enough time for it to shift away. The logs ended up being right behind the proceeding unit, about 10 early and the cloud took longer to shift than I had hoped. Atleast it thinned out somewhat as the train approached I suppose! Definitely having a spell of poor luck at the moment!

Dandelions have always been a flower that was more interesting when it went to seed.
I think it is so unappreciated until one gets close and truly looks at the flower.
I had some fun over a few days and really enjoyed catching the Dandelion Seeds in various light and conditions.
Some see a field of Dandelions as 100's of weeds.
I see Dandelions as Thousands of Wishes.
I was quite taken by the miniature size of this whisk. Whisking two eggs with it could turn out to be a big task.

Managed to get a whisp of mist to create a soft backdrop to the sky reflections in the water giving it a surreal look.
