big thanks to obsidian dawn for the wonderful lightning brushes!
The theme today is taking four lines from Dorothea Mackellar's patriotic poem, "My Country". Mackellar was just 19 and homesick in London when she started writing this poem in 1904. It was first published in The Spectator in 1908. Here is the complete version, originally titled, "Core of My Heart":
"The love of field and coppice,
Of green and shaded lanes.
Of ordered woods and gardens
Is running in your veins,
Strong love of grey-blue distance
Brown streams and soft dim skies
I know but cannot share it,
My love is otherwise.
I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror -
The wide brown land for me!
A stark white ring-barked forest
All tragic to the moon,
The sapphire-misted mountains,
The hot gold hush of noon.
Green tangle of the brushes,
Where lithe lianas coil,
And orchids deck the tree-tops
And ferns the warm dark soil.
Core of my heart, my country!
Her pitiless blue sky,
When sick at heart, around us,
We see the cattle die -
But then the grey clouds gather,
And we can bless again
The drumming of an army,
The steady, soaking rain.
Core of my heart, my country!
Land of the Rainbow Gold,
For flood and fire and famine,
She pays us back threefold -
Over the thirsty paddocks,
Watch, after many days,
The filmy veil of greenness
That thickens as we gaze.
An opal-hearted country,
A wilful, lavish land -
All you who have not loved her,
You will not understand -
Though earth holds many splendours,
Wherever I may die,
I know to what brown country
My homing thoughts will fly."
When I shot this I put my shutter speed to 1/1000 of a second and still didn't stop the wings. Next time I'll try 1/2000 of a second.
Hope you're having a great weekend

When following ones' own rabbit, one must remember these three things
1. The rabbit is always late
2. The rabbit will always leed you to a oddly shaped door
3. Once you're be hide said door you shall find "the truth"....but be fair warned my friends you might find out "the truth" was better left unknown
This young Eastern bluebird (Sialia sialis) was at the base of the tree that yesterday's Kingbird was using as its base. There was also an aduut bluebird but I was not fast enough to get their interaction.

Like a flower that has blossomed in the dry and barren sand,
We are born and born again most gracefully.
Thus the winds of time will take us with a sure and steady hand

I was quite lucky to get this sunrise-shot of the cadini group in the Dolomites. The weather was quite unstable the day before. But for some stupid reason I only packed the bivy and not my tent. When I started setting up my camp around 10pm another heavy rain shower started, so I finally decided to ask at the rifugio for accommodation. I was lucky to get the last bunk bed in the dormitory. On top of that, my phone was running out of battery, and I didn't bring my charger, so I was nervously lying in bed, tired, but not trying to fall asleep to avoid missing sunrise. Well, eventually I fell asleep, but luckily woke up at some point with sunlight peeking through the dorm's window. So I immedaitely got up and packed my stuff. Getting out of the hut, there was still a wall of clouds covering the entire mountain range. But just about 20 seconds later, the clouds cleared up in a hurry. It was an amazing sight.
So I guess this is a good example of bad preparation still leading to a good photo. Well, sometimes you got to be lucky.
There were so many things to see...
There were so many things to discovery and to learn...
There were so many things to live...
Why now it's different? You are young...
