is having some repairs.

When I first arrived at Roan Mountain I had hopes of hiking to Jane Bald for sunset...I wasn't familiar with that site and I quickly realized that I didn't have enought time to make it. An alternative site needed to be found......I was just glad that I made this initial trip...just being out on the mountain for sunset was a great feeling. The Tibetian Sand Plover is called so, because it breeds on the Tibet plateau and also among the mountains in Asia. The reason we see these in South Asia is because they winter here and also in parts of Africa and South East Asia.

When Fujifilm’s Acros II was announced, I had mixed feelings. It reminded me of when I went to see the Cure on their farewell tour in the early 1990s. I cried throughout the show at the Wembley Arena, believing that I’d never again see the band that had just released what I thought to be the greatest record of all time, Disintegration.
When they returned a few years later, I never quite forgave them, and still think that they never made any music that was close to comparing to the magnificent gloominess of Disintegration. That may have been because I’d moved on, but it could well have been because of the emotions that they put me through by going away, and returning before my cheeks were dry.
You see, I’d had quite an attachment to Fujifilm’s Neopan Acros before it was discontinued. I’d taken many of my favourite pictures using it, often at night, taking advantage of the film’s unmatched abilities to handle long exposures.
While I was pretty disappointed when it was announced that it was to be discontinued (note: we shoot film in the 21st century and therefore cannot have any expectations that companies will continue to make what is barely even a niche product), I set about auditioning a new favourite and settled quickly on Ilford’s FP4+. I’d moved on.
Acros II was initially released in Japan, and a friend of a friend arranged to import a few rolls privately. We came to an arrangement that meant I would end up with two rolls of the film in 120 format. By way of an experiment, I headed out into last night’s fog and shot a few of what both Graeme on Sunny 16, and Mike on the Negative Positives refer to as my ‘signature image’, that is a lone LED street light in the dark.
I shot the roll at EI160 and mostly around f/5.6-f/8 and am delighted to report that the new formulation (which is made in the UK) does everything that the old version did. The detail is superb, with endless tones in the grey areas, lovely dark blacks and not a hint of grain.
It is exactly how I like my film to look…
On this occasion, I didn’t expose anything for more than about six seconds, so reciprocity wasn’t an issue. On the next roll, I’ll push things further and see how if performs when exposures get up towards a couple of minutes. If as I expect, it’s like the old stuff, it’ll be just fine.

When the Israrli Army upgraded this M-48 to include a 105mm main gun it was classified as an M-48A4.. The US Army upgraded all their M-48's they added more upgrades & classified it as M-48A5..

Pan Am's B&M heritage unit would get to look ratty and oil-stained as time went on. But in 2012, she was still shiny and clean while on display on home rails for an event in White River Junction.

Shooting into the sun.
Tried a new way of shooting my flawed Nikon D800E handheld, results are rather decent with sufficient crispness although it is a PITA using it this way.
Played around with the Nikon Z6 & Z7 at a large retailer. Nice but somehow the build quality does not seem to be on par with my old D800E. The rubberized grip at the body where the middle finger rests already showed wear and tear, both units of the Z6 and Z7. Rather surprising as these are very new, in particular the Z6 which was out for less than a week! Incidentally this has been reported by reputable users elsewhere, not blind fanbois or paid "mis"-influencers.
The Z 24-70mm f4.0 felt rather plasticky to me as well.
Will stick with my D800E for now as the use case far exceeds its resale value and the 1st Gen Z bodies are not worth it. Someone has made up a long list of suggested critical improvements for the Z bodies, interesting read. 1st Gen products, no point rushing in.
I'm also encouraged by some of my friends on Flickr who continue to produce stunning images without having to resort to the "latest and greatest" gear.
Re-edited 24 June 2023, managed to convey the extreme contrast in this scene better as some of the autumn foliage was rendered golden by the setting sun.
When she flew to the little fountain, she couldn't fly anymore. The male dove landed next to her wondering how she felt. He looked up into the sky. The snow was getting heavier. Then he turned to her, seeing her panting. He knew she couldn't continue the journey this time. He moved closer and asked her to lean against him and took a rest...
The snow hadn't stopped at all.
The next day, a little black bird saw the fountain and the couple. When he was about to say hello, he found that the couple were dead already. ...
