When I shot this I put my shutter speed to 1/1000 of a second and still didn't stop the wings. Next time I'll try 1/2000 of a second.

Hope you're having a great weekend

When the Russians conquered Berlin, they thought this bunker contains the legendary Nazi gold. Blowing up the entrance was a bad idea: After they succeeded, the archive full of celluloid burned for days...

This series is about the airport Tempelhof, the former central airport of Berlin.

Sir Norman Foster once called it "the mother of all modern airports" and if you are around there you certainly get that feeling.

I tried to design this series like a journey through time and from day to night and back again in order to reflect the complex history of this airport. Please see the full series on my website: www.markuslehr.com/works/zentralflughafen/

i am following that advice.. although my camera may be on its last leg. i refuse to not use it, i refuse to back down on its use because of "what ifs." for tomorrow is not a promise, right? i am not going to miss capturing these moments because of when i think it will die. if it dies, it dies, but i won't have any regrets, right down to my last shutter click!!

This young Eastern bluebird (Sialia sialis) was at the base of the tree that yesterday's Kingbird was using as its base. There was also an aduut bluebird but I was not fast enough to get their interaction.

I bet keeping those trainers white was a full time job.

This shot is from 2017 when everyone went to "the office" to work and Coronavirus never crossed your mind.

Now with the new "pandemic ways of working" I bet he doesn't even get out of his pyjamas to work.

When your tribe is losing war after war across the whole gamut of fantasy worlds it is high time for a change of leadership. The patriarchy of orcs is dead, the matriachy however will be deadly... to its enemies!

A Blessed Sunday, everyone!!!!

Happy new year everyone -

I hope it's going to get better, generally speaking.

After 3 years of restrictions, fire crackers, rockets and flares were on the sale again and everything was just as normal as ever. Normal madness so to say. Bang Bang for a couple of days allready. I was thinking about the traumatised that came from war zones, wondering what people here are up to, vaporizing millions of € into the skys of Germany and pounding bystanders and neighbours with flash bangs. Just to make it clear, i loved the display of rockets between 00:00 and 00:30, but face it, who needs that crap? Moaning about high energy prices and spending hundreds of € on fire works? The old tradition to scare the ghost away, to make room for a better year, seems to have failed at 00:01 allready.

When I reached the top of Doria Castle in Portovenere, I was frightened by the wind’s strength but I was also astonished by a great view: under the wind’s gusts, the sea was embossing, bleaching and drawing geometry that men could never imitate.

The promontory, which stands for centuries as a barrier against the sea, was the spectator of this eternal, natural, stunning play.

Taken from Doria Castle, Portovenere, Italy, in a windy afternoon.

The Waning Gibbous phase is when the lit-up part of the Moon shrinks from 99.9% to 50.1%. It starts just after Full Moon and lasts until the Third Quarter Moon. Waning means that it is shrinking and getting smaller, while gibbous refers to the oval-to-round shape.

The moon is most likely to look orange when it is low in the sky. ... Longer wavelengths are more red, and so, when the light from the moon has to travel through more atmosphere and undergo more scattering, the moon appears redder in the sky. This is also why sunsets and sunrises are orange.

When my family and I stayed down in County Clare over the Easter weekend, we were in a cottage right beside the beach... My nephew and I took a wee drive across and watched the sunset, and it was just magical :)

I know we all get fantastic sunsets over fields and trees at home, but there's something glorious about it over the ocean :)

Wishing you all a very happy fence Friday :)

Hope you all have a lovely day and a great weekend, it seriously seems like no time since I was typing something similar last Friday, where on earth did this week go??

Thank you everyone for the wonderful comments on my wee pygmy goat yesterday :)

When I came outside I was first confused because I saw the sun shining very brightly in front of me, the position where it is usually at noon. However this was at 5:30pm.

After standing for a while in awe, I realized that he setting sun (behind me) was hitting the building at the end of the street (in front), and diffused in a brilliant white - almost like an artificial flash light, causing interesting hard edged double shadows and a white cast over everything. It was one of the most remarkable natural lighting situations i've ever seen.

Notice the double shadows clearly visible on the four standing in the middle of the intersection.

When I showed the grey 2CV yesterday, Jan said that he liked the colourful white/red variant better, because it reminds him of the 2cv in his youth, where those were student cars, DIY repaired with parts from the scrapyard.

I've altered the white one to fit his description, and even the sun came out to let me take some nice pictures.

If you look closely, you might even recognise the driver.

A real mish-mash of stuff used here: four or five Microsoft Word documents with various fonts (Bahnschrift SemiLight SemiConde, ROG FONTS to name two), cropped, resized and colour-filled in Photoshop, everything then stuck into Photomatix Pro, tonemapped and finally combined with previously unused DABC #600, final flourishes back at the ol' PS lab using the Nik Collection add-on. Phew!

Spilling out into the night, the air slapping at their sweaty and flushed faces, the SeeBee defensive line - the one with the core, a Cap and a whole bunch of hooligans masquerading under the banner of Dan, variations one through eight – celebrated with a hoot, three hollers and a whole six-pack of gang-gum stylings designed to set the world on fire. The sheer levity brought about by these loveable, disgusting creatures of the gong, reeked of disillusion, straight-up bravado and all the squeaky, tin monkeys money could buy. “Don’t let the luster blind you,” pointed out one of the on-lookers, digging feverishly at the tapioca ice-cream bowl before her, “these cats can jam flat a back sass of the most gruesome kind, “again stabbing her parfait spoon deeper, “and all before eight on a Sunday.” The motor was left running. The dimes fell to the floor. The shoe shine boy folded his tent, bid a tra-la and sauntered down the alleyway, oblivious to all the temptations within.

“When I am not present to myself . . . my senses, my imagination, my emotions, scatter to pursue their various quarries all over the face of the earth. Recollection brings them home. It brings the outward self into line with the inward spirit, and makes my whole being answer the deep pull of love that reaches down into the mystery of God.
