When I was young the answer was "Poke him in the eye!" But these days I suspect traffic and parking are enough to make a Maltese very cross indeed. Around Valletta and Sliema traffic is horrendous and parking no better, both a real nightmare. For a change there was nothing in front of this garage, so I was able to get my photo. But this was probably the exception to the rule...

The pelican
When the pelican left to look for food, a snake, well hidden among the branches, began to move towards the nest.
The little ones were sleeping peacefully. The serpent approached, and with an evil glint in its eyes the massacre began. One poisonous bite to each, and the poor fellows immediately went from sleep to death.
Satisfied, the snake returned to its hiding place to enjoy the pelican's return. In fact, shortly thereafter, the bird returned. At the sight of that massacre he began to cry, and his cry was so desperate that all the inhabitants of the forest listened to him with emotion.
- What meaning does my life have now without you? - said the poor father looking at his killed children. - I want to die too! - and with his beak he began to tear his chest, right above the heart. Blood gushed out in streams from the wound, bathing the little ones killed by the snake.
But, suddenly, the pelican, now dying, started. His warm blood had given life to his children; his love had resurrected them. And then, happy, he died.
Il pellicano
Quando il pellicano partì per andare in cerca di cibo, un serpente, ben nascosto fra i rami, cominciò a muoversi verso il nido.
I piccoli dormivano, tranquilli.

Fun shot for a change. I was having lunch in a Subway in Folsom, Louisiana and while browsing through pics on the back of the camera I noticed this scene so I couldn't help but to shoot it! (Actually, tomatoes are a fruit!) :-)
I had to stop the car when I saw the light coming through the door, the sunset was almost there and those beautiful purple tones, I was in awe.
Construction in Hell's Kitchen near the Javits Center. It's pretty dystopian now. I hope it's nicer when it's done.
"So, let's go to the art studio, NOW, Nanette" . . .
Well, it wasn't that simple, nor immediate!
Since the girls hadn't been here in over 3 years,
a *tour* was in order! Our older granddaughter sat on the floor in my studio for almost an hour, mesmerized and immersed in her dream room!
Ironically, with a house and various studios FULL of art and supplies, there are actually not a lot of large spaces in which to create with small groups!
So we covered our kitchen counter with oil cloth and funny papers, added another table, adorned paint smocks, and excitedly began! Our daughter had brought along a gel plate, acrylics, stencils, ephemera and ideas! We provided the paper and assorted leaves from our gardens!
Voilá . . . an explosion of creativity and FUN!
. . . and, it's only just begun!
When you enter the courtyard, stress and anxiety disappear for one moment in time with the soothing monastery energy that falls like a blanket of peace over everyone and where negative thoughts disappear like cold snow in the burning sun.The buildings around the courtyard date from the seventeenth century. Through the gate you look straight at the old home of the provost. The ‘Besloten Hof’ was founded as a cloister in 1410 and inhabited by Norbertine nuns. In 1797 they were expelled by the French republicans. In 1836 the Franciscan sisters moved into the monastery. I took this photo in spring 2021.
The low hills in the background lie on the San Andreas Fault. Behind them is the Temblor Range.
This was taken just south of the large patch of blue phacelia towards the south end of Carrizo Plain National Monument, a little over a week ago.

Week #8 (w/b 30 August) When Things Go Wrong - do you throw your hands up in the air, get into a mad panic or just sit back and say “that’s life?” I’m sure I know someone who just says “heck, give me some chocolate!” You can share your “gone wrong” happenings or maybe just what to do when those things do go wrong and remember to keep smiling!!

Also known as the Great Indian Desert or Marusthali (Land of the dead), the Thar Desert forms a natural boundary between India and Pakistan.
We reached the famous Sam Sand Dunes on camelback, in time to witness the striking beauty of the soft and soothing light at sunset, when the sand turns to gold and the shadows begin to reveal the intricate patterns left by the wind.

I needed 6 photos to cover the whole frame with the tree, the setting sun and the plant in the lower right part, the cropped sensor of the 450d (or Rebel XSi for my american friends) turns the 24mm into almost 36 so..there's no wide view.
Manually stitched together in Photoshop with Tony Kuyper's luminosity masks for the final touches.
All photos were taken with a Manfrotto 055XPROB Tripod + 804RC2 head and for the 3 photos of the upper part of the frame i used a LEE 0,9GND
