When I looked out the kitchen window and saw this hawk I thought it was one of the red-tails that periodically show up to hunt for varmints and I went outside to snap a couple of pics. However, when I looked at them on the computer I astutely noted this hawk didn’t have a red tail so perhaps it was not a Red-tailed Hawk.
Best I can figure out is this is a Broad-winged Hawk, but if any of you birders out there can confirm that identification, or put me on the right track, I would appreciate it.
Update: It seems that the consensus of a few commenters is that this is a juvenile Coopers hawk, so I’m going with that ID given that I am not a birder.

On Conrail's Mohawk Subdivision, the New York Central "Water Level Route", "pigs flew."
70mph was the rule, not the exception. This piggy back train, or as Conrail called them, Trailer Vans, aka, "TV-XX", is right on the border of breaking the 70mph rule. The 3 GP40s have absolutely no problem wheeling the pigs right along eastbound near Verona, NY with the needle holding at 70mph.

I go hiking every day with my dog, this January has been a sad story of rain and wind! I love it by the sea, but found myself escaping into the woods due to sometimes dangerously strong wind. It’s not a bad backup, but the dog is definitely not a big fan of long shutter speed! 😅

When I clean their glass aquariums I put them in three different bowls.
I managed to take a few pictures of them.
When the weather turns cooler and the Dogwood Kousa berries change to red I know right where I can find Tug. He has made eating the berries a new Art form. Sometimes he jumps up and plucks off the one he wants. Other times he just picks them up off the ground. Fortunately they can been eaten by both dogs and people.
The tree is right outside our backdoor and he seems to think the berries were placed there just for him. While I don’t mind him eating some we all know Tug doesn’t have much ability to control himself. He would stand there all day if I let him and eat every single berry.
This year has been an unusually good year for berries. There are hundreds of them out there. I go out quite often and clean them up to try and prevent overindulgence on his part. The other day I went out with my camera and took some photos as he gorged himself on the yummy treats he seems to find irresistible.
So here is a collage of The Many Faces of Tug continuing a Fall tradition at our house. You’ll notice that he doesn’t eat the stems. Maybe he’s smarter than I thought!

When I saw this 1940 GMC truck, I had to have a closer look. It was in pretty reasonable shape for an 84-year-old-vehicle. As I walked around it, I admired the layers of paint and the rusty chrome. The different colours indicated to me that every time it sold the colour was changed. Behind the cab was a flat deck and in the cracks were a few grains of wheat. It wasn't hard to imagine a young farm lad at the wheel hauling grain to a silo nearby.
