June 7, 2007 - All of the deck plates are installed and the wheel as well. The switches are hooked up to the wiring, cabin well pump installed, bits for the bowsprit are made waiting on the bowsprit to be finished.
Here, plwod is being used to check the roundness of the mast top... a mast band will fit over this later.
I used galvanized fence hardware for the mast stays creating 4 tangs to attach rigging too. This worked great, but it's not as pretty as I would like. My mast band is being custom made by a company in Washinhgton state and should be here soon enough, These will get me on the water, or past the inspection process.
After fishing and sailing around all morning, I dropped Kip off and had him take some photos of me sailing solo. I suppose I'll learn to trim the sails better in time :)
Here is my boat on inspection day. This is the first fitting of the sails also. I think my jib is a bit smaller than it should be. I used the measurements in the polysail kit but I think my mast heigh adjustments threw those mearsurements out of whack a little bit... My next set of sails will have a better fit.. And at the price of a sewn poly-sail... No big deal, we'll ride it about for now and see how it works out. I deviated from the plans in that the jib is hanked to the mainstay with zip-ties. The mainsail is laced to the boom with soft lineand it slides up and down smooth as sil, throat and peak drop evenely. The ropes for the mainsheet tangle in the trolling motor a bit when the boom swings that way I'm not sure what to do about this. The inspection went well today.. It was a bit more tax oriented than it was actually oprtational soundness.
