8th graders from Ramey Unit School are competing in the in 2018 eCYBERMISSION National Judging and Educational Event in Washington D.C. June 17- 22. The event is sponsored by U.S. Army Educational Outreach Program and administered by the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA).
The annual eCYBERMISSION competition is a web-based science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) competition free to students in grades six through nine that promotes self-discovery and enables all students to recognize the real-life applications of STEM.
Students are challenged to work in teams of three to four to identify a problem in their community and use scientific practices or the engineering design process to develop a solution.
The Arlington, VA-based National Science Teachers Association is the largest professional organization in the world promoting excellence and innovation in science teaching and learning, preschool through college. NSTA's membership includes approximately 55,000 science teachers, science supervisors, administrators, scientists, business representatives, and others involved in science education.

Why the hack?
Current astronomy sites have complicated design or are overly technical for the casual observer. Typically lat/long is needed to figure out what is available in the night sky. Phones and browsers can take advantage of location and notification services to make the experience easy and passive for the user.

- 5 miles, 15 miles, 25 miles, 50 miles, 100 miles etc.

The splash screen of the free NASA Space Weather Media Viewer for Android.
Ideum, in partnership with Goddard Space Flight Center, was awarded a grant to extend the tremendously popular web-based Space Weather Media Viewer to the mobile platform.
A free, full-featured iOS native application is available for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. You can get the free application on the iTunes Apps Store. The free Android version is available in Google Android Market Place and the Amazon App Store.
The Space Weather Media Viewer features near-real-time imagery from a wide variety of NASA missions, NASA-created visualizations, and video interviews with prominent scientists about the causes of space phenomena. Exploration of solar imagery is intuitive and vivid due to the rich multitouch interaction enabled by the iPhone environment. With the production and availability of this content for mobile platforms, we extend the audience for the Space Weather Media Viewer and make this valuable tool more accessible in classroom environments.

Oliver Laric examines the productive possibilities of the copy, the bootleg and the remix and considers their role within history and contemporary image culture.
Laric’s predominantly web-based artistic practice is characterised by the manipulation and reinterpretation of existing cultural images. He operates in a simulacral space where concepts of authorship, truth, presence, original and copy are shown to be obsolete, or at least irrelevant. Herein the artist often uses technologically advanced production methods to be able to create works that deal with the spaces in between original and copy, present and past, the authentic and nonauthentic. In Laric’s work categories disintegrate and boundaries dissolve in a way that questions their existence.
In collaboration with the Collection and Usher Gallery in Lincoln, Laric initiated ‘Lincoln 3D Scans’, a project comprised of scanning and publishing 3-D models of works in the institutes’ archive. ‘Lincoln 3D Scans’ aims at making the collection available to an audience outside of its geographic proximity and to treat the objects as starting points for new works. The virtualized national treasures are now free as open source models ready to be downloaded and adjusted. This project extends Laric’s research into the status of a copy versus the original like he has been working on for instance in his series of video’s ‘Versions’ (2009-ongoing). In ‘Versions’ is each video a montage of appropriated text and images based on the previous version.
Oliver Laric lives and works in Berlin. Recent solo projects and group exhibitions include: MIT List Visual Arts Center, CAS Annual Award at Lincoln Museum, Art|43|Basel, Skulpturhalle Basel, Frieze Art Fair, Fridericianum, Palais de Tokyo, Kunstverein München, Herald St, Mass MoCA, X-initiative and the New Museum.
During his conversation, hosted by John Battelle, at Web 2.0 someone from the audience asked Brin about when a 'Google Office,' a web-based productivity suite, would appear. Brin responded: "I don't really think that the thing is to take a previous generation of technology and port them directly, and say can we do the minicomuter on the Web on AJAX makes sense. I'm not saying that's what [Microsoft] Office is, I'm just saying that I think the Web and Web 2.0, if that's what you want to call it, gives you the opportunity to do new and better things than the Office package and more. We don't have any plans [to do an office suite]."

Collecting responses is the most important step, as without this, there would be nothing to analyze. Anyone that’s done a survey before will also tell you that it’s also the most tedious step because it is hard to get respondents to well, respond! To get the most possible responses, you need to reach respondents both online and offline.
What is a web-based (online) survey?
Web-based surveys are are available on the Internet and are distributed by sending a URL to respondents by email or promoting the survey through social media, on a website, or on a blog. Your respondents are only those people that you can reach online. For example, you can send a market research survey to those customers that have opted in for your email newsletters.
What is a mobile (offline) survey?
Mobile surveys let you to use touch screen devices like smart phones and tablets to interact directly with respondents in the field. Mobile surveys are optimized for touch screen devices and don’t require an Internet connection to work. Your respondents now become everyone you can reach face to face or in person. For example, you can conduct the same online market research study with any consumer that is on location or in the street.
Which is better?
The answer is that it depends on where your respondents are! If your target market or sample is entirely online, all you need is an online survey. If your target market or sample is only partially online, you shouldn't ignore those respondents that you can’t connect with online. To get the complete picture, you need both web-based and mobile surveys! With our market research example, you would have more accurate results with the opinions of both online customers and those that are on location.

COAST SALISH TERRITORIES (Vancouver) – The Second Annual Vancouver Indigenous Media Arts Festival (VIMAF) will be showcasing the best of cutting-edge Indigitized artists and their works November 8-11 at a handful of venues on Coast Salish Territories. VIMAF brings together special guests from across Turtle Island, including Alanis Obomsawin, who will be presented with VIMAF’s Lifetime Achievement Award. She will be joined by directors and producers from Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg and BC. Their works will be shown at the West Coast’s only Native media arts festival, including a variety of mediums such as short films, music videos, documentaries, video art, animation, feature length films, interactive media, video projection, and broadcasting.
Programming at the weekend festival will celebrate a number of trailblazing artists from around Turtle Island with Gala and Conference events, interactive installations, National Film Board (NFB) feature film premieres, and evening musical programs, all meshing traditional and contemporary experiences of Indigenous Peoples. A number of prominent featured installations and films will be making their west coast debut at VIMAF, including NFB/imagineNATIVE partnership De Nort, an online interactive journey and onsite installation from the Winnipeg/Montreal ITWĒ Collective exploring life and experiences on a northern Manitoba reserve and how through forced reservation traditional memories and knowledge are being replaced.
“Presenting web-based work alongside radio, television,and cinema really show the multi-platform storytelling strategies being used to tell our stories,” said Ronnie Harris, member, VIMAF Coordinating Committee. “Using digital tools is a popular strategies for Indigenous storytellers on the West Coast.”
NFB Film premieres include Director Alanis Obomsawin’s The People of the Kattawapiskak River, returning Residential School lens We Were Children, West Coast Smokin’Fish, Every Emotion Costs, and others. VIMAF and W2 Community Media Arts Society resident media artist, Bracken Hanuse Corlett (Wuikinuxv-Klahoose), will also be projecting, Wuulhu – To Fuse Together, a series of digital installations throughout Festival home venue, W2, for the weekend. Musical offerings fuse traditional sounds with cutting edge electronic-influenced sets provided by the East Coasts’ A Tribe Called Red who are playing at Fortune Sound Club, and locals Skookum Sound System, as well as DJ’s Annashay, Vancouver DMC Finalist DJ Krisp playing VIMAF’s Indigenous Afterdark: Around The Sun.
The 2012 Festival will be headquartered at W2, with other events taking place at SFU Woodward’s Cinema, National Film Board – Pacific Region, and Fortune Sound Club. “Anchoring the Festival in Vancouver’s original settlement is fitting,” says Harris, “we are using the Woodward’s media hub which is made up of W2, SFU and the NFB, to bring a focal point for understanding what is Indigenous culture today in the centre of the city.”
VIMAF is a media arts organization founded in 2011 to re-affirm the presence of Indigenous digital production in Coast Salish Territory. VIMAF holds space for Indigenous media artists to show their works in an environment that fosters cultural discourse, critical awareness and interactivity through the independent production, stimulation, examination and illumination of Indigenous socio-political histories and current realities.

Among the candidates are the aging theatre cat, Gus; the rocker, Rum Tum Tugger; and the once-glamorous Grizabella, now but a faded memory of her former self.
Boasting a score that includes Jellicle Songs for Jellicle Cats, Mr. Mistoffelees and Memory, this compelling fable takes audiences to a fantastical world that can only exist in the theatre. Cats has been performed worldwide and translated into over 20 languages. The original West End production ran for 21 years and the original Broadway production ran for 18 years

Mitch Goldberg, JPSS Chief Program Scientist, provides a status update on the JPSS Program at the 2014 NOAA Satellite Science Week meeting. The meeting was held March 10-14 at the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies in Madison, Wisconsin as a joint web-based, virtual meeting and on-site review of the GOES-R Algorithm Working Group (AWG), GOES-R and JPSS risk reduction science activities, and calibration/validation. The meeting promoted a dialogue between product developers and user communities, ensuring a path for the transition of research to operations and user readiness.

Web-based instruction, through the use of course management systems, has replaced these other forms of distance learning. Course management systems are software tools that provide a framework for managing and administering online instruction.

The client required a new web based product which would run on a touch screen kiosk. It would remove the need for a certified fitness trainer and would contain all of the exercises in textual, video and static image formats. Kiosks would be sold to clients such as large corporations to increase fitness and well being levels while reducing sickness levels. The kiosk connects to the internet for any updates automatically ensuring all kiosks are up to date at all times. Individual users have their own logins to allow them to track their own workouts and training schedules. the system also allows access from any browser through a web site so users can gain access either from home or where there is another kiosk such as in a hotel.
