The Virginia National Guard hosts geographic information system training for more than two dozen National Guard Airmen, Soldiers, civilians and contractors from 10 states and territories Aug. 28, 2019, at State Military Reservation in Virginia Beach, Virginia. GIS is a mapping-based, decision tool system designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, manage, and present all types of spatial or geographical data. The three-day training, which was conducted in conjunction with National Guard Bureau, consisted of two classes- a GIS analysis class and one focused on web-based GIS applications. Client of Going Green Solar in sunny Arizona. The picture shows off a combination solar electric and solar hot water heating system that was installed on the same home. The solar thermal system was manufactured by FAFCO Solar Hot Water. The solar electric design of this project called for a new micro inverter technology by Enphase. This product has been attributed with gains as much as 25% greater energy yield compared to a single inverter. The micro inverter will also minimize wiring and connections adding to the look and overall efficiency of the system. The inverter design can also be coupled with a wireless, web based, monitoring system which will allow the owner to view in real time the actual production of each solar panel as well as the total solar array. The monitoring program offers an accomodating user interfrace that can be accessed anywhere via the internet and does not require any additional wiring whatsoever. A detailed analysis of real time data on energy production down to the individual panel up to the entire array of panels can be viewed minute by minute up to a lifetime of production. Mitch Goldberg, JPSS Chief Program Scientist, provides a status update on the JPSS Program at the 2014 NOAA Satellite Science Week meeting. The meeting was held March 10-14 at the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies in Madison, Wisconsin as a joint web-based, virtual meeting and on-site review of the GOES-R Algorithm Working Group (AWG), GOES-R and JPSS risk reduction science activities, and calibration/validation. Nuit Blanche New York (NBNY) presents a curated collaborative response by artists, writers, architects, and urbanists to the multitude of visions of the new city. Through a unique online visual platform, participants in New York and Detroit visually interpreted a glossary of writing about Detroit as a collage of moving images, photographs and illustrations. These works have been facilitated by NBNY using an innovative new tool, ToBe– a web-based interface that allows users to collage media in a canvas where they can draw and modify a shared palette of shifting content. Juxtaposing outsiders and locals, the project takes inspiration from How to Recuperate an Urban Crisis, Andrew Herscher’s important new glossary of urban figurations on Detroit. “ToBe Detroit” illustrates the complication and conflict of perception and offers a platform for visual dialog as a means to explore community across geographic boundaries.

To my Flickr friends who may be at the Fayetteville art extravaganza this weekend, please stop by the gallery next to Town Square Jewelers and look around (I'm in Studio B). We have some very nice works showing. Randy Drake will also have his camera tethered to his computer and his active model shoot will be on a big screen in the front window. What fun! This new studio set up will be available for classes very soon and I am looking forward to writing new training material and assignments. Some of the classes will even get into actual studio work with models and/or product/fine art work. I will also be teaching Photo Shop and (for the novice) web-based galleries.

The web-based movie project BETWEEN YESTERDAY & TOMORROW was launched two weeks after the Great East Japan Earthquake, which occurred on March 11, 2011. Based on a set of instructions provided by MAEDA Shinjiro, each filmmaker produced a five-minute film that was released on the Internet as soon as it was completed. On the website, informat ion on the filming date and location of each work was collected in an archive along with a sampling of the news that occurred on that day.
