National Energy Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (National Energy), a subsidiary of the state-owned National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited, has taken delivery of a new Damen ASD Tug 2811. National Energy has opted to have installed a Class certified Damen Marine NOx Reduction System to make it IMO Tier III compliant. While this is not a requirement in the Caribbean Sea yet, it is in full alignment with National Energy’s commitment to promoting sustainability in the local and regional energy sectors.
The ASD Tug 2811, named National Energy Resilience in recognition of the role it will play in delivering low-emission towage, has also been fitted with Damen Triton, Damen’s in-house remote monitoring software. Triton gathers data from across the vessel and analyses it to deliver valuable insights into efficiency and operability to owners and operators via its web-based platform. For National Energy, this will include insights into fuel consumption and CO₂, NOx and CO₂e emissions. Combining this data with its operational profile will allow National Energy to optimize the vessel’s operating profile, potentially reducing fuel consumption by up to 15-20%

This make me happy, and didn't feel it in me to shoot much today.
Before this became a tablecloth it was a wallhanging. So glad the colors go with new pad.
Bought a new phone with a bunch of chargers but I can't figure out this new VOIP..so, the one in the kitchen that I set up does not appear to be working.
Still not sure where the heck the voicemail is.. Do i use the machine? or the web?..
Also, can't figure out why i can't send email from my emac that is connected via ethernet. Spent time trying to send something, only to spend more time opening up a web-based email account just so I can send email.
Well...now that Ive whined enought. Have a nice nite!
sorry for the lack of updates and new postings on flickR .. with all the social media sites these days ie 500px g+ FB etc etc it is easy for one to loose track of what is where ... but i think I will spend a little more time on my flickR page as well as my facebook page over at Facebook Page as these 2 social media sites I find most comfortable with ... G+ I can not see a point of really when in reality it is the same as a facebook page with a more people on facebook 750 million i hear ... 500px well the layout is nice but really its the same as flickR, do I need a second one ... as I do a little online marketing I find that the more offline marketing I do the better my outcome ...
So I think I'll stick with just Facebook and FlickR right now ... confused ? ... that makes 2 of us ...
So here is a fairly new image taken on the east coast of australia ... something I have been wanting to photograph for a long time now ... More to come over the next week from my trip to the east coast of australia ... Remember to press L on your keyboard to view the large file sample on Black ...

Beach holidays were born in the 1700s in Great Britain, this social phenomenon was born in which bathers for the first time go to the beaches, certainly not as sunny as those bathed by the Mediterranean Sea, they are fully dressed; this "new fashion" is also encouraged by the belief of English doctors since the beginning of the eighteenth century (starting around 1720), that breathing the brackish sea air and bathing in cold sea water is healthy, invigorates the body and cure lung diseases (conviction even more strengthened by the discovery of oxygen by Antoine Lavoisier in 1778, which led to the greater diffusion and conviction of the theories on the health benefits of sea air, which was thought to be more oxygenated and pure), these theories push many people from Northern Europe suffering from severe lung diseases to spend long periods in southern Europe, often in the south of Italy, this explains why characters with extraordinary qualities come to Taormina to cure their tuberculosis. The photographer baron Wilhelm von Gloeden and the English lady Florence Trevelyan Trevelyan had the seawater brought with their mules from Isola Bella, but while W. Von Gloeden heated the sea water, the English noblewoman Lady Trevelian did not heat it, mindful of the teachings of the English medical school, this will cause her death from bronchopneumonia on 4 October 1907 (see my previous "photographic stories" about Taormina). In fact, "thalassotherapy" was born in Great Britain, together with the social and cultural phenomenon of frequenting bathing beaches (before the beginning of the 18th century, the sea and its beaches were lived, except for reasons of trade and fishing, in a dark and negative way, from the sea often came very serious dangers such as the sudden landings of ferocious pirates, or foreigners carrying very serious diseases could land). Thus the fashion of spending holidays by the sea was born in the English aristocracy and high bourgeoisie of the time, subsequently the habit of going to the sea spread to all levels of society, the railways that were built throughout Great Britain to 'beginning of the nineteenth century, made travel to the ocean accessible even to the lower classes, they too will frequent the seaside resorts, Blackpool becomes the first seaside resort in Great Britain completely frequented by the working classes thanks to the presence of low-cost bathing establishments; the great and definitive boom in seaside tourism will then take place in the 1950s and 1960s. This being the case, it should not be surprising to know that in Great Britain the beaches are more frequented than one might instinctively think due to a climate very different from the Mediterranean one, and that this socio-cultural phenomenon has been investigated at the photographic by photographers of the same Great Britain, of these I mention four names. An important photographer, who probably inspired subsequent photographers, was Tony Ray-Jones, who died prematurely in 1972, at the young age of 30, who was trying to create a “photographic memory” of the stereotypes of the English people; the famous photojournalist Martin Parr, who, although inspired by the previous one, differs from it for his way of doing “social satire” with his goal; finally, I would like to mention David Hurn and Simon Roberts, the latter with wider-ranging photographs, with photographs more detached from the individual. In Italy there are numerous photographers (I will mention only a few) who have made in their long career images captured in seaside resorts (generally we speaking of "beach photography" similar to "street photography"), photographs that are often unique in their style, such as that adopted by Franco Fontana, I mention Mimmo Jodice, Ferdinando Scianna (of whom I am honored to have known him personally), and Massimo Vitali, famous photographer (understood by some as "the photographer of the beaches"), especially for his beautiful photographs taken on the beaches (but not only), thanks to the presence of elevated fixed structures as a kind of mezzanine, built specifically in the bathing beaches for the realization of his photographs. This is my incipit, to introduce the theme I tackled, that of "beach photography", with a series of photographs taken mostly on the beaches of Eastern Sicily near Taormina and Giardini-Naxos, a few other photos were taken on the Sicilian island of Lipari (here, for example, I photographed the two beautiful and very sweet girls, from Germany, whom I thank again for offering themselves to my lens).
……………………………………………………………

Last summer while camping in the boranup forest I took these 3 images as blend for camera motion and sharpness ... I was attempting to produce as much depth as I could while keeping as much camera motion as possible. I took 1 image as sharp as I could and 2 images with different amounts of camera motion and then blended the 3 images at different opacity levels to achieved the desired end result.
Keep an eye out for 1 and 2 day workshops in Western Australia where you will be guide to sort amazing locations, be shown how I take my images and the post production techniques I use to achieve the results I do.

"As responsible scientists and technicians the members of the soil survey have a responsibility to explain their information, how it was obtained, what it seems to mean, and how good or how uncertain the information may be. Without such a responsibility to the customers, the public, and to science there would not be the keen sense of pride and accomplishment of being professionals." (Dr. Richard W. Arnold, Director, Soil Survey Division, USDA-NRCS; 1980 to 1996)
Soils are the basis of life and the foundation for agriculture. (Genesis 2:7: Then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.)
Yet, during the past few decades, focus on the importance of soils has diminished, coupled with harsh man-made and natural conditions that have resulted in soil erosion and soil nutrient depletion. Without vibrant and healthy soil, plants and animals cannot flourish. Therefore, it is vital that we have a deep understanding of soil so we may conserve and protect this very valuable natural resource.
The word “soil,” like many common words, has several meanings. In its traditional meaning, soil is the natural medium for the growth of land plants, whether or not it has discernible soil horizons. This meaning is still the common understanding of the word, and the greatest interest in soil is centered on this meaning. Soil covers the earth’s surface as a continuum, except on bare rock, in areas of perpetual frost or deep water, or on the bare ice of glaciers. In this sense, soil has a thickness that is determined by the rooting depth of plants.
The images provided in the Soil Science Photo Gallery offer a unique perspective of the world underfoot. They are designed to be used by students, naturalists, scientists, or anyone seeking a better understanding of the natural world in which we live. In general, the images and accompanied information are an overview of the contemporary process of describing, classifying, and correlating soils. These materials will assist the reader to increase their knowledge about soil as a natural, evolving feature of the earth’s surface and its critical role in sustaining life.
Many of the images were photographed over a 35-year career as a soil scientist with USDA-NRCS and as an international soil consultant. Others were downloaded from various web-based articles, publications, photo albums, etc. Where known, the images have been sourced, cited, or credited to the original author or photographer and a link provided to the original and related sites. Otherwise, it may be assumed they have been provided by USDA-NRCS (SCS) staff. Please keep in mind, over time links may be broken as web sites are changed or files deleted or moved.
In order to make comparison easier, they have been revised to a standard size and format. Soil profiles may have been edited to remove extraneous objects such as tools, scales, markers, cross shadows, etc. or to clarify features. If the image is of a soil or landscape outside the U.S., the standard ISO two-digit country code has been provided. (i.e., AU indicating Australia)
If you would like a copy of an image(s), they may be downloaded via the Flicker download feature in various resolutions including the original size (5x7 inch @ 500 ppi for pedons). A friend running a web based flashlight and LED-/HID - headlight shop asked me to shoot his project.
Putting 11 IPF 930 with a total of 1100 Watts of HID conversion kits on a Nissan Navara Doublecab.
I can tell you that the actual lamps doesn't cost a fraction of the total amount. We're talking a 40A relay to each single light, including a spare to each section of lights. (4 on the roof, 3 in the upper bar of the bullbar and another 4 in the lower bar of the bullbar)
The cable list as follows
12 meters of 50mm2
6 meters of 35mm2
10 meters of 4mm2
25 meters of 2*2,5mm2
3 Optima Yellowtop batteries and it just goes on and on.
Here's some pictures of the 7 SPOTS in the bullbar.
The photos are taken att a landing field at Backamo Flygfält, south of Ljungskile, Sweden. The lenght of the visible light here is aproximately 800 meters, but because of the snowfall and all the moist in the air I would say that the trees, probably 1500 meters away would be well lit up if the conditions were better.
INSANE!!
This musical phenomenon comes to Theatr Clwyd for the first time thanks to Tip Top Productions.
Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber based on Old Possum’s Book Of Practical Cats by T.S. Eliot. “Prologue – Jellicle Songs for Jellicle Cats” additional material written by Trevor Nunn and Richard Stilgoe; ”Memory” additional material written by Trevor Nunn.
The Jellicle Cats come out to play on one special night of the year—the night of the Jellicle Ball. One by one they tell their stories to Old Deuteronomy, their wise and benevolent leader, who must choose one of the Cats to ascend to The Heaviside Layer and be reborn into a whole new Jellicle life. Among the candidates are the aging theatre cat, Gus; the rocker, Rum Tum Tugger; and the once-glamorous Grizabella, now but a faded memory of her former self.
Boasting a score that includes Jellicle Songs for Jellicle Cats, Mr. Mistoffelees and Memory, this compelling fable takes audiences to a fantastical world that can only exist in the theatre. Cats has been performed worldwide and translated into over 20 languages. The original West End production ran for 21 years and the original Broadway production ran for 18 years

"The rental system is fully web-based. Unlike many other city bike systems, riders do not need to pick up a card to access the system. A rider can register for and pay for a daily, weekly or annual pass. The rider will be given a personal cyclist ID and a PIN code for unlocking a bike from any station. The locations of stations and information about bike availability can be accessed on HSL's Journey Planner. A HSL Travel Card can be used instead of a cyclist ID. The pass entitles the user to an unlimited number of rides of up to 30 minutes. Extra charges apply for longer journeys." (Wikipedia)

About this photo:
Taken in the Strasburg Rail Road outdoor exhibit during a bitter-cold February day in Lancaster county, Pennsylvania.
About the process:
First, I desaturated the photo by 50% and increased the contrast. Then I applied a cross-process filter using the Picnik web-based, photo-editing program. Picnik has a great variety of easy-to-use filters and effects.
Finally, I rotated the photo and added a slight vignette.

Water color was amazing, reminded me of those iceberg and glacier colors you sometimes see … With not much time to prepare as I only just landed and checked into the hotel before heading up the coast taking in the breath taking scenery and colors … We quickly stopped by the side of the road when I made my way over the edge down to some old lava rock and took a few series of images as the light was peaking.

This image was captured from the summit of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park, Maine. It is a "study" of the subtle colors that can be seen during the twilight period when the sun is below the horizon. This is a compressed sRGB file, the standard used for web based things. It was processed initially in Adobe RGB which has a larger or wider "gamut" of colors that is usually used/preferred for print media. Some subtle colors are decreased or lost when converting from Adobe RGB to sRGB such as part of cyan. (image m1a5255) Please also visit: acadiamagic.com.

Prisma is a free download from Google for your smart phone. It lets you apply artistic filters to your photographs. I took this photograph with my iPhone but with a little elbow grease you can upload .jpg files to your phone and work on them. The one drawback is that the files it exports are very small. Because of the small size, the program is definitely best for web-based display.

I had real difficulty with this one as I spent hours on Photoshop and did not like the effects. I used a web based filter called LunaPic. This picture of the car comes from CarFest in Coventry city centre. I survive for another week.

I visited this location a couple of times before striking it lucky with the light. Each morning there was light rain and I had to wait and wait, only on the second attempt the rain cleared just as the sun poked over the mountains gifting myself with such gorgeous light ...

Well some may say so.......
When I started this project I had no personal photos from my 1960's visits so I could only research it as best I could from publications I'd acquired along with a plethora of web-based photos
Amongst that material I also had a few layout plans of the site from different eras and sources - some better than others
Whilst it's the early diesel aspect there that I recall most, Steam traction was still in evidence - just!
However, along with the still standing Roundhouses we'd ferret around in, it's the 'Coaling Stage' (out of our limit of exploration and I suspect was either gone or being demolished at the time) that I find to be a fascinating construction
Unfortunately, in all my research, there's only a few views of the one there which are very informative but various crucial features were not visible
Thankfully a new publication came out a couple of months ago and reveals some of those omissions, namely the transfer of coal to the waiting locos
The inset shows the reference photo with the trolley loaded with coal being emptied into the waiting loco. Assuming these were hand loaded by shovel, then pushed and tipped with their wheels held by those curved 'stoppers' on each of the platforms
On it I've placed the unpainted trolley I made from sheet plasticard with wheels made from slices of plastic tube glued onto made up axles. The handle is 'presumed' and made of brass rod
In the main photo it's been painted and filled with real (crushed) coal
I still don't know whether once inside the stage if the trucks were tipped sideways using hydraulics to spill their loads before the crews got to work with shovels OR it was ALL done by hand??
I've also been 'superdetailing' the main structure with (representative) tubing for external lights along with downpipes which serve some sort of piping from each of the coaling platform rooves - maybe a wash hose to clear coal dust as I cannot see any guttering on them
I've also raised the whole building about 5mm along with the entry rails on the gradient plus the raised arched truck structure as I wasn't happy with the height including opening up the arches under the latter as one photo revealed that they were open!
Added too were the Water Tank access ladder and cladded water pipe feed (top left)
I've still to scratch-build three more of those access staircases :(

Yesterday i did a little shot with nicky. We shot another little movie, which i'm in the process of finishing. :-) But after finshing the animation film we got me strobe kit and had a play. I wanted some very simple but power images from the use f the strobes. She look very at ease with nature in this. This is my fav strobe shot from yesterday. I did get some kick ass ambient light images aslo, but i'll get to them over the next few days.
It is a good week for me for photography publishing. I did a wedding in april and it has been featured in a mag called Etc mag. I just got my copy in the post and it looks bloddy amazing. i don't get to see much of my work in print as most of it is web based. But damn it looks fine. I am a happy bunny again :-)
Stobist info: a Bowens GM 400 was used camera left @ 1/1 power through a white brolly.
Arriving well before dawn I spent the day hiking in and around the Marin County hills leaving after sunset. Only came across one Coyote the during the day. Watching the fog roll in over the Pacific Ocean most of the day was amazing.

MONTREALERS: DON'T FORGET TO DROP BY... AND SAY HI! ;D
Happy Friday Everyone!
No, I am not celebrating a week's end by having cupcakes for my breaky.
This is to call attention to Cupcake Camp Montreal being held this Sunday at the Bitoque Restaurant in Montreal.
For a $10 donation at the door, you get to indulge in 3 mouthwatering cupcakes and coffee. And, 100% of the proceeds go to "Kids Help Phone", a very worthy cause.
Kids Help Phone is Canada’s only toll-free, national, bilingual, phone and web counselling, referral and information service for children and youth. Whatever the problem, from abuse to the death of a parent, Kids Help Phone is there with professional phone and web-based counselling services, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Cupcake Camps have been held around the world to resounding success. With many talented pro bakers in Montreal, like my friend Clever Cupcakes donating their cupcakes for the event, I am sure Montreal's will be a not-to-be-missed event, too.
I volunteered to take photos at this charitable event... so expect more sweet pics! =D
If you're in Montreal this Sunday, why not drop by and join us, for the cause, the fun and the yummies. Bring the whole family to this kid-friendly event... make a date to meet your friends there, or make some new ones.
To find out more about Cupcake Camp Montreal, go to www.cupcakecampmtl.org

In other news, I am racing to get things done, in order to hopefully attend a lighting seminar given by Gary Fong in Old Montreal today... will catch up with your streams, later! Have a great one and as always, thanks so much for stopping by my stream! xx

What do I mean? What's so sad about this?
Nothing is sad about this image itself as Conway Scenic's ex Maine Central GP38 252 sits coupled back to back with Boston and Maine F7 4266 on the siding in front of the splendid 1874 depot with the classic ball signal preserved from Waumbek Junction, NH at left.
This was always my happy place to just 'be present' even if nothing was moving as it was arguable one of the most authentic and intact tourist railroads in the country situated in truly beautiful country. I have memories going back to childhood here as do countless railfans and have made some great friends in this very place. I was introduced to the business of railroading here at a young age and a quarter century later I have two decades in the industry behind me. So this place is important to me...it is special in a way few other places are.
But I was just up there last weekend to spend a night with family and while the White Mountains are as majestic as ever and the Saco still runs cold and clear the Conway Scenic is nothing like it was....to put it plainly it made my heart heavy.
How so? Well let me list a few ways.
Glaringly of course is the fact that 252 has failed catastrophically with no plan in the near term to repair her and she is parked forlornly out behind the roundhouse.
After four and a half decades of visitors feeling welcome to walk around the yard that is no longer permitted and one can't walk through and linger by the roundhouse or look at the assorted equipment except from afar. I have no idea why but the place is now littered with ugly repair stakes and blue rope string barriers everywhere like some sort of perverse contorted maze with plenty of simple printed keep out signs.
Oh, and that unwelcome feeling extends even to the platform. No more sitting on the bench by the bay window enjoying the sight and sound up close. Nope, only ticketed passengers are allowed with plenty more signs and ropes everywhere. Maybe this is some covid requirement, I don't know but it is awful. And it's not even done tastefully with more ropes everywhere as an entanglement hazard and and poorly hand written signs in faded black sharpie stuffed in sheep office depot plastic sleeves thumbtacked sloppily to the depot....and who the f--- willingly and needlessly puts tacks in the depot anyway?!
Shall I go on?
The ticket window is now out front and sure I get that cause of covid and social distancing but man is it ugly. Poorly constructed of plywood and only partially painted and wrapped with plexiglass I've seen better looking dunking booths at the fair. To put it simply it just looked cheap and trashy.
And shall we talk about the train?
I only photographed the Valley Train but man it didn't look good.
For one it was running 15 to 20 min late consistently, something unheard of for decades.
Secondly 1751 pulling the train is really shabby looking still wearing its faded and streaked lighting stripe paint a decade after it arrived from the Finger Lakes Railroad.
Third, with a 'Notch Train' car mixed in the Valley consist it lost it's uniform color look.
Oh, and as far as I can tell despite hauling around the diner you can't have lunch on the train and there is no dinner train this year. Why? Who knows. Maybe they will blame covid but the Cafe Lafayette is running down in Lincoln so it can be done.
And in what I consider the most egregious failure especially in these times is the lack of an open car. Why? I don't know. But both trains had one forever and there was no better way to soak up the sights and sounds of the north country while enjoying the fresh mountain air tinged with that magical scent of fir. But now, in an era where fresh air is healthier and safer than ever there is no open car option that I can see. Maybe they have one on the 'Mountaineer' I don't know.
Then let's add that the rack cards (or brochures) found in all the normal tourist spots and restaurant entrances are much less appealing being only a simple cardboard front and back. The trifold is gone, the couple photos are terrible and unappealing and there is no schedule listed instead directing you to the web site. In this location that still features an older demographic making everything web based seems foolish and then the lack of a schedule even on the web site is ridiculous. It's as bad as restaurants that won't give you a printed menu anymore instead having to click through dozens of descriptions to find what your options are. That's what they've done. There is no one page listing the schedule. You have to pretend like you're booking and drill into each day to see what is or isn't running. User friendly and inviting it is not.
Am I done, no...the truly saddest of all was seeing the ball signal laying on its side. Was it taken down on purpose or was it knocked down? I don't know. But it is a sacred and important part railroad history once located in a truly scenic off the beaten path location you can still visit today if you like a good walk or take your bike. I hope it is down for a reason and is going back up but I don't know....and it really shocked me to see it laying like so much scrap wood on the ground.
What has happened to this place?! It truly makes me sad like seeing an old friend get sick as they slowly slip away. You want to remember them how they were...and I want to remember you how you were Conway Scenic.
Oh Gary and Dwight...come back please...
But on the bright sight...there is an ugly old antique school bus parked in the yard now if the north country junk yard aesthetic is your thing!
So enjoy this simple look back before the fall.
