Humpback Whale tail off the coast at Merimbula

Couldn't resist to shoot the sunset reminding me of the magical times we were at the same spot playing with the waves as kids. Kampos beach, Samos, Greece

While hiking along the crest of the dune, I came to an opening in the dune grass. This allowed the sand to advance like waves.

Roppongi, Minato-ku, Tokyo. November 16, 2011.

Watching the huge waves on Wednesday afternoon made me think of The Wave. The photographer helps to provide a sense of scale. I think it looks better on black

Surfing off Noosa, QLD...

A huge wave smashes into the foreshore . Plymouth Hoe, Devon, UK

Everyone has a surfing pic, I had to get one...

Het Schip ("The Ship"). Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Social housing cooperative Eigen Haard ("Our own hearth") asked architect Michel de Klerk in 1919 to design and build 102 houses. It is a beautiful example of the Amsterdamse School style of architecture.

Even the fonts for the house numbers were especially designed.

We, we waves

That are rocking the winds

To rest-

Green cradles, we waves!

Wet are we, and salty;

Leap like flames of fire-

Wet flames are we:

Burning, extinguishing;

Cleansing, replenishing;

Bearing, engendering.

We, we waves,

That are rocking the winds

To rest!

* Poem by Johan August Strindberg (1849-1912)

The waves at the surface of the ocean are called wind waves. Waves are set in motion by winds of varying strength and varying size travelling at different speeds. The sea spray that is blown from the waves is called 'spindrift'.

At least, that's what Google Lens leads me to believe. But Wikipedia doesn't mention they are found outside the Palearctic region (Eurasia above the Himalayas and North Africa).

This one had left this mortal coil before I found it. At the time of this photo it was being feasted upon by some kind of beetle (brown smudge at two o'clock in the photo).

The last Desiro shot for a while (I promise) and here were see 350129 passing Church Brampton with 2Y23 15:54 London Euston-Birmingham New Street. The unit is in the previous livery of London Midland, which is far better than the mess they are appearing in now. Clayton and Jasmine give a wave and get a toot of the horn in return.

I thought I'd share these two photos of the wild waves, taken each side of South Parade Pier, as I'd like my photostream to look nice and blue and summery!! Although it was fairly warm out of the wind, you can see the sea was very choppy!

Crazy waves for a lake. Captured near the R.C. Harris Water Treatment Plant in Toronto
