Waves at Collioure

Some light experiments from the archive :-)

The liquid playfulness of the waves charges ahead with an impatient hug as the solid calmness of the rocks lovingly kisses back his mercurial sweetheart

Wave crashing unto Colywell Bay. My poor poliriser probably won't survive from salty sea water. At least I have got nice wave.

The day after we arrived I went on down to the Santa Monica Pier and spent hours. I had read about it, heard about it and seen pictures of it. There was a great deal of activity at the pier, there was even a kind of carnival atmosphere. Some were fishing, others riding the various rides, some were playing games while others purchased trinkets.

This shot took me a few dozen to achieve. Those who are familiar with the days of film will appreciate the digital and enjoy not having to pay for each and every slide. It illustrates the strong undertow that the Ocean can create. Much of the water is being sucked out leaving mostly silty water while an enormous wave crashes in.

Het Schip ("The Ship"). Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Social housing cooperative Eigen Haard ("Our own hearth") asked architect Michel de Klerk in 1919 to design and build 102 houses. It is a beautiful example of the Amsterdamse School style of architecture.

Even the fonts for the house numbers were especially designed.

Rebuilt this jeep after rebuilding the other jeep. Kinda missed it... I put back the original style of tyres. I think it matches the white lights on top..

A Sierra Wave moves over the Alabama Hills near Lone Pine, California. The Sierra Wave is a type of lenticular cloud created by winds that lift off the Sierra Nevada mountain range of California. Known as lee waves, Sierra Waves form as winds hit the Sierra Nevada and are forced to rise, causing water vapor to condense as it cools and forming lenticular clouds on the leeward side of the mountain range. These clouds can remain stationary for many hours. The formation of a Sierra Wave is dependent upon many factors, including wind speed and direction, leeward wind patterns, and water vapor. Given that Sierra Waves are dependent upon many variables their formation is unpredictable.

This is a shot from a few weeks ago -- I liked the light on the water and the even break of the wave.

The lower-level cloud layer breaks up with distinct wave patterns, while the higher cloud glows.

The water was looking really lovely when we visited Poldhu.

So Tracy got in touch, did I fancy a couple of hours at Porthcawl to catch a few photos of the whooshy waves. High tide was going to be good, she said....

Off we went mid afternoon...we had a great time photographing these great waves, lots of other silly people photographers there too. We had a wander around took lots and lots of photos, had a rest stop in a pub then went back to the car.....trying to get to the car was an experience I'll not want to do again in a hurry, we were being blown by winds so severe I had to grab Tracy (she's only little) before she was blown away, the sea spray was horrendous...we got in the car, the car was rocking and getting bombarded by waves......all set, key in, turn over, nothing !!

Tracys car was dead - luckily Tracy is with the AA, they came out in about half hour. Nothing could be done, too dangerous, he said - he kindly took us to the nearest train station. Trains were delayed too due to points failure, but luckily we didn't have to wait long. We got a train to Cardiff, then a bus to where I live - Tracy's husband picked her up from my village - what an adventure we had, think I got in about 8 o'clock.

Tracy and her husband went to get her car today, luckily it was still in one piece where we had left it.

catching up as quickly as I can....
