Before the total solar eclipse on August 21st in Wyoming, USA...I happened upon this fledgling bird in a bush opposite the RV park I was staying in. I have no idea what type of bird this is though..

A deer jumps in front an approaching Lhoist train of outbound loaded limestone cars at Daysville, TN. Leading the train is recently-acquired ex-Southern GP38-2 5206.

The little spit of land here was once used as a triangulation station for the coastal batteries that guarded the San Francisco Bay. Soldiers watching the horizon for enemy ships at several triangulation stations would relay coordinates to the gunners who would then calculate the trajectories needed to strike the ships. That was the theory. I don’t believe there was any need to fire in anger before technology rendered this approach obsolete. On the right is the decommissioned Fort Cronkhite, now known for its Marine Mammal Center and the Golden Gate Raptor Observatory.
These days people watching the horizon are more interested in sunsets.
