As an antidote to all the pretty shots of Nyhavn I've been uploading here's a slightly less picturesque corner of Copenhagen that caught my eye. I've deliberately desaturated some of the colours to add to the industrial aesthetic.

Warning sign beside sluice gate on the River Avon in Chippenham

An antique warning traffic-sign "School" in Romania, on DJ 103 (DJ stands for "Drum Judeţean", County Road) between Braşov and Sânpetru. This fine example of socialist realism is affixed on a metal pillar supporting the roof of the gatehouse of the former enterprise Sere Braşov, or, in English, Brashov Greenhouses. Observe the dress of the girl, reminiscent of the 1950s. The two young people are depicted in a soaring pose, running towards the radiant future. Sadly, the Greenhouses have gone bankrupt and the land is now for sale; most likely the derelict structures will be torn down.

This is more like something I should have on my desk at work as a warning! That aside, a rather fine London Transport Electricity Department warning sign, in Johnston typeface, and clever addition of a recessed panel that the various telephone numbers used could be displayed.

Various warning signs regarding the geyser in Soda Springs, Idaho

Caution: Beware of falling coconuts. Do not stand under trees! (coconut palm trees in particular).

It's a serious message too as a coconut weighing about 1.5 kilograms falling from a height of 40 feet could cause a serious head injury or even instant death. You have been warned!

Sea erosion has claimed a lot of the cliffs at Walton-on-the-Naze, Essex, but apart from the odd warning sign there's nothing from stopping you going right to the edge and looking over, always with that nagging doubt in your mind! This is 3 exposures with -1+ stops bracketing, then Photomatix for HDR and tonemapping, and finally Photoshop for the finishing touches.

Warning signs on a road cleaning machine. Ouch.

There used to be steel handrails across the footbridge (to stop us stumbling locals falling into the river), but they were ripped from their fixings and swept away in the recent floods. At Stedham Mill Weir on the River Rother... near Midhurst.
