This little guy looks happy to have a walnut. He's not all puffed up like the other squirrels. Look at that ear. Hope he's okay. It's 10 degrees out, and it won't be above freezing again until Thursday.
Today's prompt asked for a Walnut or Towel Day.
I've drawn a towel before for the Douglas Adams tribute, but this year I opted for a Walnut instead. I don't think Douglas would have minded. Complicated things walnuts, the fruit reminded me of a human brain with all its whorls and symmetries.

4 Medium size bananas approx 350g
175g Walnut
Pinch of Salt
1 Heaped teaspoon of baking powder
1 Teaspoon ground cinnamon
110g Plain flour
110g Wholemeal flour
1 Orange / zest
1 Lemon / zest
110g Butter / Softened
175g Dark brown sugar
2 large eggs
1 Tablespoon Demerara sugar
Grease a 900g loaf tin and pre-heat your oven to 180 degrees C.
When the oven has preheated, spread the walnuts on a baking tray and dry toast them for 7-8 minutes in the oven. Once done, remove them from the oven, leave to cool for few minutes, then roughly chop them and leave them to the side.
In a small bowl, puree 3 of the bananas with a fork, and chop the other into 1cm thick chunks.
Place both the flour, salt, baking powder, and cinnamon into a sift and sift into a large mixing bowl.
Add the rest of the ingredients into the bowl, except the bananas and nuts, and use an electric hand whisk to combine the mixture thoroughly, to a smooth texture.
Lightly fold in the chopped banana and walnuts. You might need to add a drop of milk to help the mixture along. Get it to a consistency where the cake mix easily drops off the spoon when you give it a sharp tap on the side of the bowl.
Pour the mixture into the tin and level the top with a back of a spoon, and sprinkle on the Demerara sugar. Place the tin in the centre of the oven and bake for 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 hours, until the cake feels springy in the centre.
Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the tin for 5 minutes before turning it out onto a wire rack. Let it cool completely before serving or slicing, otherwise it is likely to just crumble!

I have been wanting for a long time to photograph a new-to-me waterfall. This one was 112 miles to the west of Rochester, not far from the PA border. It was a long drive for me. I think it was worth it.
ππ
The walnut shells have a high calorific value and are an excellent fuel. The reasons for this are, on the one hand, the densely grown material structure and, on the other hand, the oil it contains.
In addition, the nut shells contain valuable nutrients that your plants love. Give your housepot love and add some crushed peel to the soil. ππ
This is an image of a female Walnut Orbweb Spider - Nuctenea umbratica. One of my favourite spiders to find in our garden. We seen to have loads here in Tadcaster, North Yorkshire, UK.
They hide away during daylight hours in cracks and crevices, emerging at night to catch moths and other nocturnal flying insects. This image is the result of a 15 image in-camera focus stack.

Taking advantage of socially isolating by making a plectrum this morning. Made out of some off-cut walnut I fished out of a skip a while back. Cut the 'F' out using a jewellers coping saw and pretty happy with the result as it's my first attempt. Was going to use some left over Crimson Guitars finishing oil, but it had dried out and solidified, so used some Black Bison wax instead.
