My brother and his son. I was hoping to create an image that highlighted the strength of fatherhood and the vulnerability of new life. It is quite Australian in it's imagery with him wearing a Jackie Howe singlet - a strong masculine symbol. Overall I wanted the image to have a lightness that the innocence of first time parenting brings.

Dec 10: #FossiloftheDay at #COP25.

Dec 10: Australia won the #FossiloftheDay award today, their 4th Fossil award of this COP, for getting 0/100 in the climate policy assesment of the latest released edition of a Germanwatch report, as well as for advocating use of Kyoto carryover credits here at COP25, all the while one of the major cities - Sydney - is surrounded by bushfires with choking smoke for the last two weeks, black water on blackened beaches. Bondi Beach is just not the same. We had a young climate striker Daisy accept the award for Australia.

We also had a well deserved #RayofTheDay to the Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF) which was accepted by Enele Sopoaga, a diplomat and former Prime Minister of Tuvalu.

So vulnerable; guess what, I'm not a robot.

Model is Lacey, and me, but those aren't up yet :)

Adapted to petitpoint from a painting by P.D Breeding Black. 20" by 28". 18 mesh canvas, This is 324 tiny stitches per square inch, all worked by hand with one strand of Persian wool. I painted and stitched this piece in 1995. Back when my eyes could see much better!!! Why am I putting up pics now? Because I want to do Evies portrait in petitpoint.

Curious piece of graffiti on an old wall near the Cumberland Basin that reads "His charmed foot on the ball..But then his heel, his heel, his heel". A bit of research has uncovered that this is taken from a poem by poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy called "Ulysses" in which the legendary figure of Greek Mythology with the famously vulnerable heel is likened to modern footballing hero David Beckham whose ankle injury ruled him out of the recent World Cup tournament. Not sure why this has been added to this particular wall but it's a poem worth checking out.

10.12.2018 MPGCA: Scaling up investments in resilience to meet the needs of vulnerable people

Workshop held to disseminate the result of vulnerability assessments in South and Southeast Sulawesi. The vulnerability assessments were conducted using a method developed by the World Agroforestry Centre, called Capacity Strengthening Approach to Vulnerability Assessment (CaSAVA). Compared to other vulnerability assessments that usually focus on risks caused by climate change, CaSAVA combines risks of biophysical changes (including climate change) with socio-economic and policy factors, which can lower productivity and profits, along with agroforestry practices and forestry.

From the media release:

Paris, France – Youth leaders from a number of the most at-risk countries to climate change spoke at the United Nations COP21 today, demanding an ambitious and strong long term goal in the Paris Agreement. Their action is in support of the Climate Vulnerable Forum, an international partnership of countries highly vulnerable to a warming planet. The CVF adopted the Manila-Paris Declaration on Monday, which is the most unified call yet from UN member states for full decarbonization and 100% renewable energy by 2050 to keep warming below 1.5℃.

As foreign nations continue manufacturing an ever-larger share of America’s defense supplies, the United States risks diminishing its capacity to design and commercialize emerging defense technologies. Here, members of a supply chain predictability team at the Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA), Fort Lee, VA, brainstorm Aug. 23, 2012, about risk indicators to be considered before writing supply chain instructions. Family : Simaroubaceae

A rigid shrub or small commonly multi-stemmed tree to 5m tall.

Tweed River to Mt Nardi and Glenifer scatterd in Big Scrub remnants and remote mountain tops.Locally abundant although very restricted.

It appears according to Alex Floyd p.416 that it differs from Q.bidwillii in Qld by the "less conspicuous venation, cauline floral clusters, slender flower stalks and the larger smooth fruits"

Interestingly, this tree sometimes produces smooth yellow fruit but normally the fruit is smooth red to black.

It has broader leaves than Quassia sp.'Moonee Creek'

Haliaeetus pelagicus is a large bird of prey in the family Accipitridae. It is named after the German naturalist Georg Wilhelm Steller. Steller's Sea-eagle is the biggest bird in the genus Haliaeetus and is one of the largest raptors overall. The typical size range is up to 105 cm long and the wingspan is up to 2.3m. Females typically weigh up to 9 kg, while males are considerably lighter, weighing up to 6 kg.

Steller's Sea Eagles breed on the Kamchatka Peninsula, the coastal area around the Sea of Okhotsk, the lower reaches of the Amur river and on northern Sakhalin and the Shantar Islands, Russia. The majority of birds winter further south, in the southern Kuril islands, Russia and Hokkaidō, Japan.

It is unique among all sea eagles in having a yellow bill even in juvenile birds, and possessing 14, not 12, rectrices (that's flight feathers on the tail to you and me). The skull and bill are the largest of any eagle and comparable to the largest Old World vultures, the biggest accipitrids. The birds have been found in North America but these are considered to be individual that strayed from Asia. The species is classified as Vulnerable. The main threats to its survival are habitat alteration, industrial pollution and over-fishing. The current population is estimated at 5,000 and decreasing.

The Steller's Sea-eagle mainly feeds on fish. Favoured prey include salmon, trout and cod. Besides fish, it also preys on water-dwelling birds (including ducks, geese, swans, cranes and gulls), various mammals, crabs, squid and carrion, and has been recorded preying on young seal pups! This magnificent specimen was seen at Warwick Castle, where it is displayed by Hawk Experiences Ltd.

A-level shoot in response to vulnerability theme

Going away shouldn’t be a big deal. But when you’re worried about your house the entire time you’re gone, it can be. Everyday, hundreds of thousands of homes are left empty and vulnerable to burglaries. We have all heard the stories of people who leave on vacation or arrive home at the end of the day only to find their home is a wreck and their valuables are gone. Leaving your home shouldn’t be risky or create anxiety, but some people are resigned to dealing with that as a risk that comes with living in the modern world. A majority of homeowners do want to take the necessary steps to protect their home as much as they are able.

If you’re like most people, you’ve seen many Kansas City security cameras around and have probably thought about having an alarm system installed to help keep your home secure at all times of the day or night. Without a doubt, this type of security system acts as a great deterrent against criminals looking for an easy home to target. Many alarm companies offer signs to put in your yard or stickers to place in your window to ward off burglars. According to the numbers, this is a highly effective deterrent. For those who want even more protection, there are additional safeguards you can have put in place. There is more that you can do to protect your home, belongings, and most importantly your loved ones.

One of the easiest ways to look after your home while you’re away is to invest in a security system that adds surveillance. Regardless of how safe of an area you live in, there is no way to see the future. That means that your Kansas City house could fall prey to home invasion if the proper steps aren’t taken. Crime ridden neighborhoods put people at a higher risk of burglary. If you reside in an area where there is more stealing, surveillance has never been more important. There is no way for you to be at home all the time. You deserve to live in safety. Home surveillance in Kansas City allows you to watch over everything you work so hard for, and gives you assurance whenever you need it.

It’s never been easier or more accessible to have security cameras put in your home. Now there are even mobile options that offer you the choice of being able to check on your security cameras and see what’s going on any time of the day or night. Naturally there is more to gain than peace of mind or in preventing a home invasion. Cameras can help people with a wide range of issues. Large properties can be easily monitored from within the house or while you’re at work. If you receive packages you can install cameras to make sure they aren’t stolen, and help catch the criminal if someone does.

Home security cameras in Kansas City make sense for a wide range of reasons. Safety is one of the prime reasons people have security cameras put in. But they also help keep an eye on hired help, keep your kids supervised, and watch out for trespassing on big properties. Having extra protection is priceless. Find out how simple it is to get home surveillance, and shop around for affordable prices. If you want to feel protected no matter if you’re home or not, then security cameras may be the perfect solution for you.
