Giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis) in recognition of World Giraffe Day 2020. This annual event celebrates the tallest animal in the world on the longest (or shortest) day of the year. The day highlights the plight of giraffes who are sufferning a silent extinction. Their populations have dramatically dropped because of habitat loss, poaching, and civil unrest and these iconic African animals have now been reclassified from least concern to vulnerable to extinction.

I've really been having the urge to shoot naked lately and most of my pics have been with skin I've finally figured it out today. I've been feeling very vulnerable lately I feel like I've been putting my self out there in all aspects of my life and its very scary.
But I've done it knowingly and on purpose and I'm not gonna run scared into my hole again! I'm staying out there and letting people in letting people see me and whatever happens because of it will happen and I'm not gonna run away!
A really good example is this "person" (hey you) some of you asked about since I wrote what I wrote on day 141 and after ive replied "NO" to your question "do you have a boy friend?" the response was the same " be careful!! You might get hurt" but that’s exactly the point. No I don’t want to get hurt, nobody does, but Its about putting myself out there I have to be in those situations that make me FEEL!! In those situations that make me vulnerable I've been staying away from that for years! And if I want to learn how to open my heart I have to start doing things that are scary! And I have to go on roads I don’t know where they will lead me but I have to go !! I have to be there
Besides my old and wise soul knows that no one can ever hurt me only I can … and my heart is by far the strongest most balanced and wise organ in my body! It is time though to let people in to have a look around…
The pics the curator chose for august are also making me feel very very very vulnerable and very OUT THERE very naked!! That’s also been throwing me off abit im starting to get really scared. People are starting to notice me and look at me I walk in the street and people are looking (well men mostly) but it never use to be like that! I was always in the back round never in the front! but i think Im in the front now ...of my own life!
And it’s a weird place to be when your use to the dark alleys of your anxieties! And i think that’s why I feel so naked… I feel raw!!
And now is when it gets tough! Staying in this rawness and not running away and putting all my guards up again! thats the hard part.

The Indian rhinoceros is a rhinoceros species native to the Indian subcontinent. It is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List, as populations are fragmented and restricted to less than 20,000 km2. Moreover, the extent and quality of the rhino's most important habitat, the alluvial Terai-Duar savanna and grasslands and riverine forest, is considered to be in decline due to human and livestock encroachment. As of August 2018, the global population was estimated to comprise 3,588 individuals, including 2,939 individuals in India and 649 in Nepal. Kaziranga National Park alone had an estimated population of 2,048 rhinos in 2009.

This very large male rhino had just had an altercation with another very large male. He is leaving the scene of the dust-up with a couple of wounds to his shoulder and a couple of Eastern Cattle-Egrets on his back. The ranger that was with us was not concerned with the injury.

Koala (Phascolarctos cinereus) feeding on eucalyptus in the Australia Outback habitat of the San Diego Zoo.
Koalas prefer the more nutritious leaves at the top of the trees, usually eating one leaf at a time. Of the nearly 900 species of Eucalyptus in Australia, koalas eat approximately 70.
Conservation status: Vulnerable
Considered vulnerable the Aldabra giant tortoise can live for more than 150 years ,possibly 200 years ! Its carapace can be 4 feet in length & their weight 250 Kg. Having a mainly vegetarian diet they obtain most of their water from their diet.

Male cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) - one of two relatively young brothers traveling together in the Sabi Sands region of South Africa. They caused a big stir with our rangers and trackers, as they are not frequently seen in this area. There are large prides of lions and the terrain is marshy and not supportive of cheetah's style of hunting. It is surmised they left their mom and were wandering the reserves around Kruger NP looking for territory to call their own. We encountered them over several days and there will be more pictures to recount our adventures with them.
Conservation Status: Vulnerable
A masked lapwing or spur winged plover, Vanellus miles, chick that I think was less than two days old. Unfortunately, the parents did not stay very close to it so I did not get a reasonable photo of the chick and one of its parents together. Its height was less than the height of its parents knees (see next photo). I kept my distance because masked plovers will defend the chicks and they have spurs on their wings with which they could attack.
Masked lapwings do not always choose good places to nest. They have been known to nest on railway tracks. This pair probably nested on the ground in the backyard of a house. They would often go onto quite a busy road and did not stop the chick going onto the road.
a coalition of 3 large male Lions controls a large section of Madikwe Game Reserve (75000 hectares=185000acres, South Africa). They had to defeat several other coalitions in order to establish their territory.
This massive male is the dominant male within this coalition and the father of the current litters of cubs.

Habenaria sagittifera (mizutonbo in Japanese) is a wild orchid native to Japan and China. The conservation status is vulnerable.
Numerous flowers are attached to a stem. The unique feature of the flower is a cross like lip (the lower petal) of about 20 mm. At a wetland in Toyota, Aichi, Japan.
H. sagittifera is related to a white egret flower (fringed orchid; Pecteilis radiata or H. radiata) in which the egret portion corresponds to the lip.

Photographed the Razorbills on Gull Island part of the Witless bay Ecological Reserve on the coast of the Avalon Peninsula in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador Canada
The striking black-and-white Razorbill nests in cliffside colonies overlooking the ocean, often among murres, fulmars, and kittiwakes. It uses its sharp, hatchet-shaped bill to catch fish underwater, sometimes diving to 330 feet. Chicks leave the nest before they even have flight feathers, jumping from their cliff ledges into the water far below. The male parent follows along, minding the chick in the water until it can forage for itself. In winter, Razorbills gather in large flocks to feed, often fairly near to shore.

On my trip to South Africa, I only saw two male cheetahs. This is one of the males relaxing.

The South African cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus jubatus), also known as the Namibian cheetah, is the most numerous and the nominate cheetah subspecies native to Southern Africa. Since 1986, it has been classified as Vulnerable by the IUCN. The South African cheetah live mainly in the lowland areas and deserts of the Kalahari, the savannahs of Okavango Delta and the grasslands of the Transvaal region in South Africa. In Namibia, cheetahs are mostly found in farmlands.

The leopard (Panthera pardus) is one of the five species in the genus Panthera, a member of the Felidae. The leopard occurs in a wide range in sub-Saharan Africa and parts of Asia and is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List because leopard populations are threatened by habitat loss and fragmentation and are declining in large parts of the global range.
Contemporary records suggest that the leopard occurs in only 25% of its historical global range. Leopards are hunted illegally, and their body parts are smuggled in the wildlife trade for medicinal practices and decoration.
Compared to other wild cats, the leopard has relatively short legs and a long body with a large skull. It is similar in appearance to the jaguar, but generally has a smaller, lighter physique. Its fur is marked with rosettes similar to those of the jaguar, but the leopard's rosettes are smaller and more densely packed, and do not usually have central spots as the jaguar's do. Both leopards and jaguars that are melanistic are known as black panthers.
The leopard is distinguished by its well-camouflaged fur, opportunistic hunting behaviour, broad diet, and strength (which it uses to move heavy carcasses into trees), as well as its ability to adapt to various habitats ranging from rainforest to steppe, including arid and montane areas, and its ability to run at speeds of up to 58 kilometres per hour (36 mph)- Wikipedia

The Sambar ( or Sambar Deer ) is Asia's largest deer species.
The hairless area on the lower throat is called "the sore spot", and is apparently unique to this deer species.

Hyacinth Macaw (Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus) and Park greeter, named "Sampson". This handsome fellow is >20 years old and the largest species in the parrot family. The hyacinth macaw is the rarest of the macaws and is found only in Brazil. San Diego Zoo Safari Park - entrance. Conservation Status: Vulnerable
We came across a coalition of young adult male lions (Panthera leo), likely the Ndzhenga, who split off from a larger group in Kruger National Park. They were mostly hidden in the grasses, but this one handsome fellow honored us by posing for pictures.

Conservation status: Vulnerable
Considered Vulnerable by BirdLife International and only easily distinguished from the closely related and formerly conspecific Chestnut-backed Tanager (Tangara preciosa) by the black back, this species is generally poorly known, although it seems to be one the of the few tanagers to perform seasonal migrations. The species’ overall range stretches from Espírito Santo south to Rio Grande do Sul, in southeast Brazil, although there is only one definite record from the last-named state. It is largely restricted to coastal sand-plain forest and littoral scrub, and the species also visits gardens and orchards. Seasonal displacements occur in Rio de Janeiro, where its arrival coincides with the ripening of certain fruits, and the Black-backed Tanager is also more common in São Paulo during the austral winter, which season has produced all of the available records in Espírito Santo. This one was photographed in São Paulo.

The red-bellied grackle is endemic to Colombia where it is found in all three Andean ranges at altitudes of 800 to 2,400m (2,600 to 7,900ft) above sea level.
Its natural habitat is tropical forest, but the trees are increasingly being felled for timber and to make way for agriculture, and little virgin forest remains within its range.
H. pyrohypogaster was formerly classified as "endangered" by the International Union for Conservation of Nature but in 2012 the threat level was lowered to "vulnerable". This is on the basis that, although its forest habitat remains under pressure, it has been found at some new locations where it was not known before. The total population is now estimated to be in the range 2,500 to 9,999 individuals.
The barasingha, also called swamp deer, is a deer species distributed in the Indian subcontinent. Populations in northern and central India are fragmented, and two isolated populations occur in southwestern Nepal. It has been extirpated in Pakistan and Bangladesh, and its presence is uncertain in Bhutan.
The swamp deer differs from all other Indian deer species in that the antlers carry more than three tines. Because of this distinctive character it is designated bārah-singgā, meaning "twelve-horned" in Hindustani. Mature stags usually have 10 to 14 tines, and some have been known to have up to 20.
