Gnomic magnetic poetry, found down the back of the fridge.

Shot Curtis (4b11)'s Evo X on Sunday, was one of the most photogenic cars I have ever taken pictures of. I wish I would've had a nicer set of lenses for this shoot because this really doesn't portray the car as it should. I only had my kit 18-55 lens. Oh well! I will, no doubt, be shooting this beautiful beast again sometime in the near future.

Another view of the Memory Void. Although allowed to do so, we couldn't bring ourselves to step on the faces. Just too emotional.

"The Jewish Museum Berlin, which opened to the public in 2001, exhibits the social, political and cultural history of the Jews in Germany from the fourth century to the present, explicitly presenting and integrating, for the first time in postwar Germany, the repercussions of the Holocaust. Here is my YouTube slide show of Berlin.

"The installation Shalekhet (Fallen Leaves) by Menashe Kadishman can be found in the Memory Void, one of the symbolic spaces on the ground level of the Libeskind building. The floor of the void is covered by more than ten thousand faces with open mouths, cut from heavy round iron plates.

The installation is a gift from Dieter and Si Rosenkranz. Menashe Kadishman’s sculptures stir painful memories of the victims of war." - www.jmberlin.de/en/shalekhet-fallen-leaves

As always, thoughtful feedback, constructive criticisms, and suggestions are always appreciated. As always, I have used tools at my disposal to interpret the original raw file. Use of this photo without permission is not permitted.

Into the Void

Inspired by the lyrics from the NIN track.

"Tried to save myself but my self keeps slipping away"

Axel Void, Rome (RM) Italy

This passageway appeared to be a later addition & for some reason was much taller and also narrower than those elsewhere on the site?

Cold and foggy on the top of Moiwayama mountain in Sapporo. I was inspired by the emptiness and loneliness of this scene. Despite my fingers were dumb and freezed, still eager to have this feeling being captured.

These images were taken in the second full week of November 2014.

There's a big drop-off in activity on this site now. Some finishing touches to the river bed itself, cosmetic work along the riverbank sides, and a jig-saw pattern of large boulders placed in mid-stream. The main (final) focus will be on completing the profiles to the wall, securing with poured concrete, and then the completion with the pre-fabricated stone capping.

The guys have attached steel frames to the recess of the sheet-steel uprights, and filled with concrete. They very carefully check levels, laser-assisted. There's still a surprising amount of intricate manual work involved -- machines can only do so much!

The next step involves swinging in pre-formed capping slabs, with inset jacking points, and embedded rods to intertwine with the sheet-steel wall. Accuracy satisfied, the welder melds them together.

It's a race against time, schedules - and expected heavy rains and high river levels on the way.

The realisation you’ve forgotten the things you cherish most creates a hole in your gut, that will never be filled. I’ve forgotten the feeling of your skin, your touch, your lips, your smell, your voice. I wish I could, if even just for a moment, get to remember all of the above things. I want to make sure I never forget any inch of you, again.

First version of “Into the Void”, a series of audiovisual installations exploring physical structures creating light and shadows with immersive audiovisual spaces.

A array of triangles is placed on the floor, each one has a LED strip on the back which are connected to an Arduino. On MAX, series of random numbers generators and different probabilities trigger a signal to each triangle, making it turn on or off. Max communicates with the Arduino through Maxuino.

At the same time that a triangle is triggered a MIDI message is sent to Ableton Live and plays notes on a MIDI Instrument and an OSC message is sent to Processing for the Visual output.

Following versions will explore new possibilities as different shapes and materials, and interactions with the visitors through sensors.

Backstory:

Matoran and Toa alike no very little of this elder entity, most of his history has been lost to legend. When Aeon acquired the power of the Vault, he ascended to godhood. When he achieved this god like status, he created life on Aeos-magna, a planet once covered in ash and dust. What Aeon didn’t expect when he reached godhood, is that he would be joined by another god like being. After his creation of Aeos, he heard a small, faint voice call out to him. This voice brought him to the brim of the known universe, Aeos being the heart of it. Once he reached the edge, he found a chasm of nothingness in front of him, filled with nothing but darkness. In this chasm, Aeon found a purple like miasma. This miasma was the voice that beckoned him. Aeon asked for its name, but only got one response, “Void”. The miasma formed into a being, a being looking much like a twisted, darker version of Aeon.

The Void had little to say to Aeon, simply explaining Aeon’s place in this world. When Aeon was created, The Void was created consecutively. It explained how the universe has an uncanny need for balance, for control over what it makes, and that it was the answer to Aeon. Aeon could not create recklessly without consequence, and The Void was that consequence. Whatever Aeon created needed to eventually die, decay, and rot away into nothingness, and The Void was the being to bring his creation into nothing. The Void also explained that Aeon, too, would be taken by him. Obviously, Aeon refuted this, how could his paradise be taken away from him?

He left The Void in his abyss and returned to his creation, to Aeos. He tried to block that abomination from his mind, but he couldn’t ignore it. Not long after he became hands off in his world, he confronted The Void again in his little pocket of darkness. Aeon set aside his arrogance and came to terms with The Void on how the universe would run. Obviously, creation must die, Aeon saw this happen without permission, and he was willing to accept this. As long as The Void did not take his habits too far, Aeon would not either.

However, after this final meeting, both beings kept secrets to help further their agendas. The Void, in his spare time, created the Apocalypse Triggers and let their seeds sow into the myths of Aeos-Magna. Aeon, in his spare time, has created unknown way to combat the destructive force of The Void. Only the future holds what will become of the universe in a war between this gods, but for now, they do what they must, together.

Day 3: The Void

This photo was the first idea that I had for Photober this year. I just got finished binging Stranger Things for the first time, and I knew I wanted to recreate the Void (also called El's mind palace) the first time I saw it.

It might not seem like it, but today was a very technical challenge. First off, I had to shoot low key in my new studio with my new equipment—none of which were working with me this morning. Next up was post processing, since this was all done in post except for the original portrait.

Perhaps the hardest part of this challenge was something I didn't think about when shooting this: perspective. Specifically, how a reflection changes perspective. I realized too late that simply "reflecting" myself along the waterline wasn't realistic, if only slightly. Lesson learned! Next time I do something like this, I think I'll just use real water ;.;

This picture is also the first Photober photo I've taken with my shirt off since top surgery! You can see my scars here, if you zoom in. I'm 6.5 weeks post-op, which means I'm considered "healed."
