Photos from Firefly 2013 in Bethel VT. This festival is home to many of the most creative, organized, fun, and community centered artistic individuals I know. Always a highlight of my summer, the smiles and laughter are never-ending. Focused on each attendee being a contributor, there is no difference between "Performer" and "attendee" as every individual at this event does their small part to make the entire gathering tick. Thank you FIREFLY and all of you BEAUTIFUL humans for bringing positive energy and community living back into the forefront of our collective minds.

There truly is "No place like hOMe". ♥

Firefly Arts Collective is a non-profit organization that facilitates the annual New England regional burner festival 'Firefly'. Firefly is a regional event inspired by the annual Burning Man festival in Nevada. Firefly is held in Vermont typically during July 4 weekend. Most of the organizers and participants come from the Boston metropolitan area and surrounding states including, but not limited to, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont, and New York. Firefly is a camping event that celebrates art for art's sake and espouses a gift economy where no vending, sales or barter are permitted. Visual and performance artists from all over the New England region and the East Coast create a temporary community for the weekend. Participants share a wide range of talents from sculpting, painting, music, theatre, and DJing, to alternative forms of expression such as games, performance art, and circus talents such as aerial silks, juggling, and fire spinning. The event adheres to the ten principles of the Burning Man event in Nevada. Among these are the Leave No Trace philosophy, an environmental policy whereby participants are obligated to remove every piece of refuse that they generate while at the event, taking it with them when they leave. The themes of radical self-expression and radical self-reliance are also borrowed from Burning Man. Firefly Effigy - July 2008 In addition, the event is considered a "no spectators" event, meaning that all attendees are expected to actively participate in its creation, staffing, and general philosophy. According to the event's official website Firefly is, "A celebration of self-expression and community! Firefly is a participatory arts and music gathering in the woods of Vermont." The event is organized and run completely by volunteers. On the last night of Firefly a giant wooden Firefly is burned. In 2006 the Firefly included fireworks launched from its top.

From Susan Tuttle's online workshop: Visual Poetry 2. The photo was a bit light but I thought I'd try it anyway, not sure if I hit the right balance of light, shadow & tone. Would love to experiment more with this....Any tips? critiques welcome too :)

Photo and texture layers are from my own collection.

One more render to finish off the set :) Again, this was done solely in photoshop.

Today was our final hand in for the Masters in Architecture.... 7 years worth of hard slog at university has boiled down to this! So much pressure... but it's all over now - I'm not really sure what to do with myself!

VISUAL LIBRARIES - Leave your Mark.

A collaborative, visual project which encourages you to sign out a Visual Library Book and ‘Leave Your Mark’.

A Visual Library Book is whatever you want it to be, a sketchbook, a journal, a diary, a notepad.

You can ‘Leave Your Mark’ in whatever way you want, ranging from drawing, writing, sewing, adding photographs, markings, printing and sticking. How you make your marks is entirely up to you. All we ask is that you have fun with the different themes. Just borrow it on your library card with other books and materials. If you are not already a member, just ask the staff to help you.

45 Visual Library Books have been placed in Portsmouth Central Library and each has its own theme ranging from; Portsmouth, My City, When I Open My Eyes, Whilst I Was Waiting, Love, What’s in My Pocket and Memories. The intention is for you to feel free to explore the Visual Library Books and choose a theme that you like.

In Association with: Rhodia, Seawhite, Portsmouth City Council, University of Portsmouth, COPIC Pens

Barcena Mayor (Cantabria, Enero' 2017)

This is how I spent my New Year's Eve. I was almost through with my other journal, so I decided to start a new one for the new year. I decided to stay in the Time Life series of the "Life World Library". This book is on India. For some reason I never did anything to the covers of my other visual journals. I thought arting up the cover of this one would be a good start to a fresh start. I really like how it turned out.

Description from website: "Visual Kei is a very bright pink, with a nearly matte finish. Temporary staining is likely (keep off of fabric). *Reformulated in October 2011: Brighter, more intense colour saturation. * 9/2012: Colour amped up a notch yet again.*"

Color: Intense bright blue-pink, medium-dark, not quite purple enough to be fuchsia. Strawberry pink on steroids? It's not bright enough to be considered neon, but it is definitely a bright, statement lipstick.

Finish: Very pigmented but rather sheer satin finish, no shimmer.

Other notes: Like Glamorous Rebel, it is highly pigmented but on the sheer side, giving a stain effect rather than the look of a heavy lipstick. Surprisingly wearable for a hot pink lipstick.

If you look at the four previous photographs, you'll be able to see how the the framework of notes on the whiteboard, and the drawn images, became this final page of notes. You can read more about this in this entry on my blog at andrewbwatt.wordpress.com
