this was one of the very last photos i took of murph...last roll of film...only hours before i finally had the vet drive forty minutes to come and put him down. we spent a couple hours at the lake that day, and he simply sat next to me on the rocks, in the sun, taking everything in. it was like he knew.
he was only four years old.
i have kept these memories so deep. hidden in boxes of photos, behind the closed doors of my heart. the kinds of memories you shove so deep because of the ache. but the trouble with those kinds of memories is that they're not the kind you can just push away in some box under your bed.
when i lost murph that July 10, 2002 at 4:15 in the afternoon on that sun-flooded ridge at his graveside, a piece of me died along with him, a better piece of me...
it kills me to think that i will be going through this with morley...with matea...some day. it makes me never want to have dogs. but then i try to embrace everything i've learned from them....they live so in the moment, and i owe them that...to live in the moment with them...for as long as i can...for as long as they'll be here with me.

When I was flying back from Oregon in July, I listened to Caroline Myss' book on tape "Advanced Energy Healing" and doodled in my journal while I listened.

My second watercolor in my Everyday Life series. I love my clothesline. :) All those colors and the soft sound of the fabric snapping in the breeze is just happiness for me.

Winter chores on the top of my popularity list. I love to:
1. Stack wood in the wood shed.
2. Take the wood stove ashes out in the sled.
3. Freeze dry the laundry.
4. Shovel snow.

Really bad haiku:
Many mannequin heads
still waiting for the cover
of their stylish hats
You wonder why I haven't written haikus since the fourth grade.
