Icographic was a magazine on visual communication founded by John Halas in 1971 and designed and edited by Patrick Wallis Burke. The magazine was designed on a 4 column grid with the titles and headings set in Helvetica and the body copy set in Univers Medium.
type specimen of the redis face.
This is mon petit contribution to israeli design students and type lovers worldwide. iv'e scanned (in high resolution) this vintage type specimen called "Hebrew Artistic Type" by l.p. toby, circa 1955.
it's probably one of the earliest type specimen booklet printed in israel (i may be wrong), and is a stunning artifact to find. it's the ultimate example of creation that comes out of a certain void. unlike the rich tradition of the western/eastern type, there weren't many hebrew types, and there was a great demand.

this is my latest assingment in typography cours in my school.
the brief consisted of taking a poem, and convert our impression of it to a graphic concept that will allow me to pass the impression by graphic means. the format is A3, and the poster is typographical only, meaning pictures are not allowed.
i chose a poem by a female israely poet called "Yona Wallach" (poem name is "shir"="song").
------------ (cut the crap, this is the important part)----------------------
i wanted to convey this poet's mental complexity and entanglement. for that i designed a maze using the letters and words from the song. below i added the end of the song as the "consequence" waiting on the other side of the maze. this allows us to understand that the maze is made out from half readable letters.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
making your own letters instead of using existing fonts is much more fun.
(and tedious!).
type specimen of the "redis" face. probably influenced by the "grotesque" type.

"Rolit" face, designed with a very eastern feel.

I never had braces. Sometimes I don't smile for long periods of time. That's when it doesn't bother me.
Someone said to me: "those collages have been done".
Well, It hasn't yet been done by me. I don't know why so many people are afraid of doing things that "we've seen already"... in my opinion it's a great starting place to things we haven't seen yet.

this is the second of the two designs for kytes in last year's "original thinking" class at my visual communications school.
the brief was to design kytes that were designated to be flown all along israel and palestine, as a symbol of dicssion between the two nations.
i chose to make symbols, rather than a designed poster on this subject, because i felt that these icons will be seen on a flying kyte only if they are catchy.
in this symbol i was inspired by the "Shamir Bros" illustration for early israely milk advert. i turned the old milk glass from the advert, into a "plastic cup" with a string attached, symbolizing a symple yet coherant communication method used by kids.

* the book's title in hebrew is "Hatovea" - "the drowner".
I wanted this shot to feel like it was from a movie. If I could, I'd give this a slow shift in and out of focus, blurred hands and quick hasty actions. No movement from shot angle with silence then slow building piano music. But, I can't so have to settle for this and imagination.

type specimen using the "Rolit" face.
iv'e managed to work with this font, and it's terrible, every letter screams out for a space of it's own and i can't recommend this face when using a really short headline.

"the bread box"
"a bakery with an old taste".
--
This was an assignment for typography class (visual communications studies, second year).
the brief - create a logo for a fictitious food business. the logo should be designed from scratch - no existing fonts should be used except the line underneath.
my choice was to invent a bakery called - "the bread box" as a brand who sells nostalgic life style.
"the bread box" stands for a bread container. it was commonly used in Israeli kitchens throughout the late first and early second years of the 20th century, and has became an item that represents childhood and nostalgia for several generations.
these generations, which back then were children in the first years of the Israeli state, are now above 40 years old. they are the main target audience for this bakery.
the sweetness of childhood memories help the costumer to connect with the brand.
the code words (or strategic line) for this campaign were - nostalgia, home, bread, warmth, childhood in Israel in it's first years.
