Sketchnotes for Scott McCloud's keynote at Carleton College's Visual Learning conference on September 28, 2012.

I was trying not to do the typical gender, specific baby shower invite with baby powder blues for a boy and light pinks for a girl. Plus, this shower was co-ed, and I wanted it to appeal to everyone.

In this first shower, I went with a colorful palette that leaned to be more feminine with the hot magenta hue since my friend was having a baby girl. And for her custom invite, I used this fun baby rhyme that we once heard as children – (insert a girl's name) and (insert a boy's name) sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G, First comes love , Then comes marriage, Then comes (insert a girl's name) with a baby carriage. Obviously, I modified the rhyme to be more fitting for the invite.

Custom invitation design, reverse side of cover - shower information, custom circular labels and envelopes from Paper Source.

Technique: 4-color ink on Epson Heavyweight Matte Paper, printed front and back on an Epson Stylus Photo 1280 printer.

I call this inspiration board a Modern, Vintage Mexico, because I have elements of old traditions such as the lace on her veil, the church, the vintage map, gold jewelry, silver table decor and the use of old-world typography. The modern aspect comes from the use of nontraditional things for the wedding decor. I am embracing local plants to Mexico like succulents that can be used in the bridal bouquet, boutonniere, table centerpieces and on the wedding cake too. And throughout the board, you can see that "modern pop of color", the deep plum, as an accent color – in her bouquet with the orchids, her oh-so-chic pumps, and hints of it in individual succulent plants.

After I saw this image of a bed of pink roses floating on a cool, blue watery haze, I just had to pull together an inspiration board to reflect it.

These shades of soft pinks and a wash of soft blues is perfect for the fun, flirty girl who loves her roses. The rose petal color and texture can be seen throughout the table decor, and it's even carried thru to the bridal gown and accessories. Even have the food reflect this theme. How about a rosey whipped frosting over a bed of vanilla bean cupcakes – Yum!

autograph women's collection winter '11: long sleeve ribbed drape dress, high heel buckle platform shoes with insolia

Colors: Peridot, White, Brown + Black

Spring is around the corner, and I can't wait for that first hint of green to bloom on branches and for the grass to peak though the ground. And it's getting close to wedding season, too! Here's a great color palette to pay tribute to a spring wedding that is fresh, rustic, and with an edge of modernity.

The lively color of Peridot goes great with the earthy brown, and then I wanted to add a bit of sophistication through black and white accents to add elegance to the overall setting. Use unconventional ingredients for the decor and table setting – mossy arrangements, dogwood branches with white blooms, black lacquered manzanita branches and an eclectic mix of large white vases. For florals – green mums and soft, white florals like peonies and tulips. And how about a hand drawn invitation design showcasing a flower which sets the mood of feel of your overall wedding with calligraphic and traditional fonts.

This was done for my HNC Visual Communications Graded Unit at Clydebank college where we had to re-illustrate any of the Brothers Grimms Fairytales using our chosen medium.

Photographs taken in studio using Canon 500D and then layed with forrest shoots, producing a nice abstract effect on the pages.

Label reads: "The 1977 vintage has produced white wines with full rich fruit character and the soft acid finish of the traditional Hunter White styles. This wine was made from Pinot Chardonnay grapes grown on our Short Flat vineyard. The juice was fermented cold in old German Oak casks and then transferred to new French Oak hogsheads until bottling. The use of small Oak has added flavour and complexity and has assisted in making a wine of the classic White Burgundy style. I believe this to be a truly great wine and one that will develop and improve if given a further 4/5 years bottle aging. - Murray D. Tyrrell winemaker".

Creative Directions kicked off with Windows into the World of Design studio tours and presentations. Leading firms opened their doors to provide a glimpse into your possible future as a design professional.

Label reads: “Vintage 1979 vat 7. Tyrrell’s. Hunter River. Dry Red. Estate bottled. Tyrrell’s Vineyards PTY LTD., Pokolbin N.S.W. Produce of Australia. Murray D. Tyrrell Winemaker. This wine was made from Hermitage grapes grown on the sandy soils of our Long Flat Vineyard. It was picked during mid-vintage, open fermented and then matured in old 500 gallon French Oak casks until bottled. It is a medium bodied wine with soft lifted fruit on both the bouquet and palate which is balanced by a clean acid finish. I believe this wine is more suited for short term cellaring and that it will continue to soften and develop for the next 3-4yeards. 370ml.”

Colors: Green, White + Gray

I had an itch for a summer, emerald green color palette after I saw the Carolina Herrera's white gown called "Constance". The dramatic, wavy ruffles on the dress reminded me of the Peony's chunky white petals (on the second board, lower-right corner). Then I saw the dark green stem against the white Peony and came up with the perfect color combo – green, white and a soft grey. It's a nice combination for a spring wedding – fresh, crisp and clean.

I always love a nice, tailored grey suit with a nice tie, like the one above in green for the groom and his groomsmen. And for the reception table decor, only use fresh live plants like green grass, moss, herbs and even live plant terrariums.

i found this old warning sign in my design school. nowdays it's disfunctional and the elevator isn't there anymore. back then the building was used as a mail sorting building, i think.

I believe it's calligraphy rather then designed letterset.

a beautiful example for old hebrew calligraphy.
