After 16 years of negotiations two Giant Panda's were "given" during the royal visit of the Dutch King and Queen to Chine in October 2015. Since May 30th people can visit Xing Ya and Wu Wen in their new residence "Pandasia" in Ouwehands Zoo in Rhenen, the Netherlands. In time Xing Ya and Wu Wen are supposed to play a part in restoring the number of Panda bears living in the wild to a healthy population. Right now only 1834 Panda's still live in the wild and their number is, despite their protected status, still dropping.

Visiting Artist Workshop with Yasuhisa Kohyama

We were honored to host Japanese master artist Yasuhisa Kohyama for a day of demonstration at the Ceramics Program. Kohyama, both sculptor and potter, played a significant part in reviving the use of the traditional Japanese Anagama wood fired kiln, being the first potter in the area of Shigaraki to build such a kiln since the Middle Ages.
Kohyama began the day sculpting with his unique coiling and cutting technique. Participants enjoyed a potluck lunch and a slide lecture on Shigaraki and the history of Kohyama’s work as well as a NHK WORLD TV video of the artist working in his studio and loading, firing and unloading his wood kiln.

We were in a mall on Friday afternoon and when we passed Santa, there was no line, so even though the kids weren't dressed for photos, we stopped anyway just so they could see him. They were pretty happy.

Set below the hilltop Albert Park in the central-city area of Auckland, the gallery was established in 1888 as the first permanent art gallery in New Zealand. The NEW Gallery, across the road from the main gallery, shows contemporary art. It is located in the former Auckland Telephone Exchange Building which was converted in 1995 into a rather daring fusion of Edwardian and contemporary architecture.

Geoffrey found that F. Scott and Zelda were buried in nearby Rockville. We had some time to kill, so we took the metro out and grabbed a few shots. Does anyone know why there are pennies on the tombstone?
It goes to the Shinto shrine in Japan so that a lot of people may wish the
happiness of the new year. I went to Meiji Jingu by one about the biggest Shinto shrine in Tokyo today.
