I captured this image of a rose at Rose Cottage in the Lake District of the UK several years ago while visiting there. Somehow this rose surviving into winter against the odds, illustrates the courage and valor of the Ukrainian people as they struggle against the odds with Putin the terrible and cruel tyrant who has attacked their country. I have been brought to tears more than once in the past few days as I follow the news, hoping against all hope that they will prevail and drive the aggressor from their homeland.

Normally a resident further north, a pair of Loons have been around for about 10 days. Always a treat to see some of the less common visitors as they pass through.

Juvenile black-crowned night heron at a rookery in Tampa, FL.
I originally posted this image with the BCNH much more to the left and space to the right. However, after further consideration, I cropped it so the bird was placed more in the center of the image. I usually obey the so-called "Rule of Thirds" and don't place the subject in the center. However, the heron was looking to its right. I could have put it on the right side of the image so that the bird was looking into more space but then I'd have to show a lot of foliage which I didn't like compared to the blurred, homogeneous background you see here. Therefore, I decided to forget the Rule of Thirds and I put the heron right smack in the center. I like it much more than before. I hope you do.

Heading out when I looked left and saw this visitor 2 doors up...pretty sure its a Mistle Thrush (bigger, pale wing edges, please correct me if wrong)...a nicer angle not possible without trespassing and a knock on the door!
I visited Nancy in 2019. It was quite cold, albeit early fall. When I arrived there, I realized with dismay that I had forgotten my usual lens. All my photos of Nancy are therefore taken with a telephoto lens. So I had to handle myself : I didn't take everything I wanted, but I took other types of photos instead. Fortunately, they were also good.
The program of the week-end was busy, with a visit to the old town and Place Stanislas, and a tour of the high places of 1900 Art Nouveau, of which Nancy is one of the capitals.
Art Nouveau is not my cup of tea, but the city is magnificent.
It is not possible to visit Nancy without evoking King Stanislas, because we find his traces everywhere in the city. In the 18th century, Stanislas Leszczynski was a former king of Poland and had been dethroned. His daughter, Marie Leszczynska had married the King of France Louis XV. He had been made Duke of Lorraine by King Louis XV. He will be the last Duke of Lorraine from 1737 to 1766. On his death, the Duchy of Lorraine will be reunited with France.
King Louis XV had given him a generous pension. This enabled him to maintain a brilliant court and to embellish Nancy, his capital. In particular, Place Stanislas, which he commissioned, is an architectural masterpiece that fully deserves its immense fame. It has been listed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site.
We are here in front of Sainte-Catherine's gate, one of the 4 triumphal arches of Nancy. The monument is named in honor of Queen Catherine, wife of King Stanislas, and was built in 1761.

The site is located on the banks of River Jordan at 380 Meters Below Sea Level, just 5 miles North of the Dead Sea, the final destination of the river.
River Jordan gives the pilgrims and tourists alike the feeling of authenticity.
This site is considered a holy place as it is where Jesus Christ was baptized by John the Baptist an event that changed human history and marked the dawn of Christianity.
Also, there is a number of Churches in the area.
Worth visiting. better during cooler months to avoid the Jordan Valley high temperatures.

Excuse my absence this week, just need a little break ... I'll be back and visiting your wonderful photo streams soon! Love to you all!
Dag took me on a tour here. in December last year.
This was taken in one of the Calas Galadhon sims, I forgot which one :-)
I saw this Fashionably Dead outfit while in the store looking at the April 30th Saturday Sale when I noticed that this outfit was the same price. I later came across the commuter rail car in the Orchid Island sim, and the idea popped into my head. Having been able to visit home as travel restrictions have eased, I took a pic at the spur of the moment. It about sums up how I felt about going home.
Thanks to Alicia West for looking at my few pictures for the the last two years and persisting in encouraging me to resume posting.

Silver Gull (Chroicocephalus novaehollandiae)
I wandered up to the Heathdale - Glen Orden Wetlands this morning to see how they are looking after all the rain yesterday. I have not seen them this wet since 2014. Occasionally I will see one or two Gulls there, today there was a flock of about 80 working along the D I Drain.
