This Sutherland Shire series are photographs taken since moving back here to live (February, 2102) and re-discovering the area... re-visiting the familiar and exploring areas I was not familiar with while growing up here.
This grouping were taken in July 2012 at the beautiful Como Pleasure Grounds (www.sutherlandshire.nsw.gov.au/Recreation/Parks/Como_Plea...), where you can find the Blackfish Cafe & Grill (www.blackfishcafeandgrill.com.au/) and the Como Swimming Complex (www.sutherlandshire.nsw.gov.au/Recreation/Leisure_Centres...). You can also take in a short walk past the historic Como Hotel (www.thecomo.com.au/) :: Scylla Bay Reserve (www.sutherlandshire.nsw.gov.au/Recreation/Sport/Sports_Fi...) :: and the charming Como Marina (www.facebook.com/comomarina).
The Como Pleasure Grounds overlook the Georges River and surrounding bushland and offer a playground, BBQ's and picnic areas as well as a walking track and bike loop. The Grounds are situated next to the Marina where you can hire a boat or eat at the cafe or Thai Rim Nam restaurant. The access point to the Como to Oatley Bridge walk is located here as well. Opposite the Pleasure Grounds is Scylla Bay Reserve, incorporating the Oval which hosts rugby and cricket, there are also tennis courts as well as a boat ramp and wharf close by. The historic Como hotel looks down over Scylla Bay, they have a brasserie and cater to functions in the Scylla Bay Room. The Como Markets are also held close to here, in the grounds of the Como Public School on the 2nd Sunday of each month. There is definitely enough here to make a day of it. There are so many areas of natural beauty in the Shire and lots of great things to do and see which makes it well worth a visit.
The reason they are linked to my pinch river profile is because they will inevitably feed into my work at some stage in some way or another, but for now can just be enjoyed as images of the Shire that captured my attention and inspired my creativity.

Not only did we have beautiful weather on our wildlife and glacier cruise tour out of Seward (Major Marine Tours), but the whales really turned out for us. After seeing humpback whales, we then moved on to an area farther away, and there were many orcas plying the waters around our boat. One even came straight at us and then dove under the boat. It was so close that all my telephoto lens could do was produce some very blurry shots of a large bulk underwater! But I was able to capture images of what looks like an adult orca and a young one swimming together.

This is from the year after I fled that fake school. I came back to visit for a day! I was happy to see all of my friends there, and some of my teachers.
The heartbreak came when i was my 10th grade Navi (books of the prophets) teacher. She had taught us "Isaiah" that year, and it was one of the few times ever, that I participated in a Jew class, because I wanted to learn the text and commentary.
Sadly, she took one look at my with my fun dyed hair, and just walked away.
Sad, that this woman would judge me over hair color, considering all the band shirts I used to wear to school.
I had to visit the fake library and pose with a religious text. It was the first time i had held one in my hand for months.
Even with sad teacher's reaction, it was lots of fun to visit, knowing I never had to go there ever, ever again,

Four Spanish officers visit captured German trenches, during World War I. The four men look as though they are moving slowly towards the camera, whilst peering down the steep drop into what the existing caption tells us is a captured German trench. The trench and the ground about it are strewn with the debris of war.
Entertainment of Allied Forces' officers was important for fostering good relations.

A lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon... the fragrance in Salts Mill, with its lovely fragrance of massive vases of white Lilies everywhere, the smell of new books and art materials, like oils , pencils, special papers to paint on.
The sweet notes of classical music caressing ones ears... good for all the senses.
We always come away with a big smile of contentment after a visit there.
Saltaire, near Bradford in West Yorkshire, is a mid-Victorian industrial village almost unchanged since it was built by Mill owner and philanthropist Sir Titus Salt built his village in the 19th century for the spiritual, physical and moral welfare of his workers, at the site of his mill for the spinning and weaving of Alpaca Wool.
After a period of decline, it is now an example of post-industrial renewal.
Saltaire, with its cobbled streets and honey-coloured stonework, has joined the Taj Mahal and the pyramids of Egypt as a Unesco World Heritage Site, thanks to its preservation as a Victorian Model Industrial Village.
Today his great mill complex is the key feature of Saltaire and houses the 1853 gallery containing the largest collection of art in Europe by renowned Bradfordian David Hockney
Here Paul and my son Michel are admiring a massive work made by Hockney, he drew and ten faxed page by page, which was then assembled. Interesting!

New York/Dallas quartet Forq visited the Valencia campus to give a clinic to our graduate students as well as perform some tunes from their their eponymous debut album.
Made up of Lost Tribe founder Adam Rogers on guitar (Michael Brecker, Chris Potter, Norah Jones, Joe Jackson, Cassandra Wilson, Paul Simon) Rudder founder Henry Hey on keyboards (Jeff “Tain” Watts, Joe Locke, Chris Botti, Bill Bruford, Seamus Blake, David Bowie, Empire of the Sun), Snarky Puppy founder and Grammy Award-winner Michael League on bass (Kirk Franklin, Wayne Krantz/Ari Hoenig Quartet, Lalah Hathaway), and Jason “JT” Thomas on drums (Roy Hargrove’s RH Factor, Marcus Miller, D’Angelo), Forq is an all-star ensemble of sorts - but with the spirit and cohesiveness of a garage band.
