Snow Leopard
This piece was inspired by my childhood memories of visiting the zoo. When I was younger big cats seemed incredibly mysterious and intriguing to me. I wanted to reflect this atmosphere within my artwork but I also aimed to keep the drawing as photo realistic as possible. To do so I changed the colours of the Snow Leopard's eyes to an icy blue colour and I also created a blurred blue/grey background. I wanted the piece to naturally draw the viewers attention to the eye and face area. To do so I ensured that the portrait was most detailed in the centre on the face and became less detailed the further away from the face.

During a business trip to Virginia, had some time off, so visited some family in the area. Had not been to Maryland in 20 years, so families had changed and grown.
I spent the day doing 5 workshops for the Children's Discovery Museum on the Saskatchewan. We worked on art flags (based Tibetan Prayer Flags) which will hand at the museum. Also in the room was my bicycle, ready to yarn/fabric bomb! Too fun. When they were done, I grabbed a nearby shopping cart and said, "this is ugly. Can you decorate it?" SO fun Such a great day introducing stitch and fibre art to children and families. www.mysweetprairie.ca

Here I am holding a clothing tag. Cousin Craig loved the feeling of rubbing it together, he'd suck his thumb while doing it. His parents were trying to get him out of the habit, do I had just nicked it off of him.
Lee looks bemused by my antics. Probably thought I was crazy, which wouldn't have been too far from the truth!
I like this photo because we didn't pose for it, meaning it wasn't set up. We were sat on the stools for a while, chatting away. I then pinched the clothing tag moments before my mother came into the kitchen and said "Smile!".
One thing that strikes me here, we all have blond hair and blue eyes. I've never noticed that before!
Lee, Craig and their parents still live in Rosyth. I don't seem them as often as I should!

Virginia Opossum (Didelphis virginiana)
Description - Opossums are cat-sized mammals with a pointed snout, grayish fur, small ears, and a long, scaly tail. It can use its tail to hang from tree branches, and it has paws with opposable "thumbs." Males are usually larger and heavier than females.
Life History - The opossum is active only at night, and is a solitary animal. They have an eclectic diet and will eat both plants and animals, including rodents, young rabbits, birds, insects, crustaceans, frogs, fruits and berries, and vegetables.
Females usually have two litters a year. The babies are born after just 11-12 days, and are about the size of a honeybee. They are blind, furless, and do not look anything like adult opossums. After they are born, they crawl all by themselves into unaided into its mother's pouch and immediately begin to nurse. Soon after it begins to nurse, the nipple swells and completely fills the baby opossum's mouth, causing it to be firmly attached it to its mother. It remains attached until it is about 7 weeks old, at which time it has grown large enough to detach itself. This unusual adaptation helps make up for the short gestation period. Many opossums die during the first year of their life, and adults usually live only about two years in the wild.
Habitat - Opossums are primarily woodland creatures, but are also frequently found in prairies, marshes, and farmlands. Although they prefer to live in hollow trees and logs, opossums will also shelter in woodpiles, rock piles, crevices in cliffs, under buildings, in attics, and in abandoned underground burrows dug by other animals.
Distribution - Opossums occur statewide except for the arid Trans-Pecos and Llano Estacado of the Panhandle.
Other - Opossums, as a group, are among the oldest, most primitive mammals of the New World. Some scientists call them "living fossils" because they have survived relatively unchanged for at least 50 million years. They are intermediate in many respects between the most primitive of all mammals, the egg-laying monotremes of Australia, and the higher placental mammals. Their chief character is the marsupium or pouch that develops on the abdomen of females. One species occurs in Texas.

Church End - The Parish Church of St. Mary.
The Porch
- dates from about the same time as the Lady Chapel ( which we shall be seeing later) sometime between 1448 and 1455. Part of its roof, recently restored, is probably the oldest in the church. After years left standing in the porch unused, the door into the south aisle was re-hung as a thanks offering for the safety of a parishioner reported missing, in 1940. It replaced glazed double doors seen in old photographs.

New York/Dallas quartet Forq visited the Valencia campus to give a clinic to our graduate students as well as perform some tunes from their their eponymous debut album.
Made up of Lost Tribe founder Adam Rogers on guitar (Michael Brecker, Chris Potter, Norah Jones, Joe Jackson, Cassandra Wilson, Paul Simon) Rudder founder Henry Hey on keyboards (Jeff “Tain” Watts, Joe Locke, Chris Botti, Bill Bruford, Seamus Blake, David Bowie, Empire of the Sun), Snarky Puppy founder and Grammy Award-winner Michael League on bass (Kirk Franklin, Wayne Krantz/Ari Hoenig Quartet, Lalah Hathaway), and Jason “JT” Thomas on drums (Roy Hargrove’s RH Factor, Marcus Miller, D’Angelo), Forq is an all-star ensemble of sorts - but with the spirit and cohesiveness of a garage band.
