Grey birds against a grey sea are not usually popular so I'm not expecting much attention on this one. But this was my fifth visit to Baja and this was the first time I have managed to capture a photo of one. They are a common enough sight off Baja, but they are usually whizzing past at a distance. Similarly Manx Shearwater is a fairly common sight around British coasts but it took me years to get a decent photograph. Actually Black-vented Shearwater was once though to be a Pacific subspecies of Manx Shearwater and the two do look quite similar, apart from the black vent (under the tail) just visible here. Here's a Manx Shearwater for comparison: www.flickr.com/photos/timmelling/52262377959/in/photolist
95% of the world population of Black-vented Shearwater nests on a single island off Baja; Isla Natividad, though a few pairs nest on Guadalupe and San Benitos (which we visited). But like Manx Shearwater they only visit their nesting burrows under cover of darkness. Its scientific name Puffinus opisthomelas simply translates as shearwater with a black behind.
This vent stack is attached to a gas processing station in the oil fields of Romania. When I was there, the vent stack was releasing invisible methane into the atmosphere. I captured the release on a specialised infrared camera that can visualise methane emissions. See the video we produced here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=FviUUqeJSOs&list=PLKH65C8nX1i...

Paternoster Vents also known as Vents or Angel's Wings. It is a stainless steel sculpture by Thomas Heatherwick located in Paternoster Square London. The sculpture provides ventilation for an underground electrical substation.
in the rock just above the place where I found Snakeskin Liverwort.
The cold air is always coming out of these rocks even in the summer.
Adverse winds...!!! :)
My wild river reflection…!!!
An impressionnist photo safari concentrated mainly on a daily basis (or almost) on my small piece of planet of 55 000 square feet…!!! A Thoreau "waldennienne" approach…!!!

Spotted these on my friend’s roof, and got the inspiration to morph them into early Daleks.
The bumpy bits are from a support column at Paddington Station near the Praed Street entrance, and their appendages are plungers.
I just loved the K on Vents's sketch. Sharp like a boxcutter!
It was a good learning experience as I got to experience the subtleties that go into the making of a style like this.
Done with Rustos and Krylons for the fill as I just had bought up a small lot for cheap.
Black-vented Shearwater is common off the Baja coast but they are usually fast and distant, so getting a photograph isn't easy. I wanted to upload this one because it shows the black vent (the bit between the legs and the tail).

The red-vented bulbul (Pycnonotus cafer) is a member of the bulbul family of passerines. It is resident breeder across the Indian subcontinent, including Sri Lanka extending east to Burma and parts of Tibet. It has been introduced in many other parts of the world and has established itself in the wild on several Pacific islands including Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, and Hawaii. It has also established itself in parts of Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, the United States, Argentina and New Zealand. It is included in the list of the world's 100 worst invasive alien species.

Wind gust.
If, on the other hand, there is a northerly wind, it must be borne in mind that this wind is getting stronger as the coast rises.
With Tramuntana there are two key places of passage.
The first is Cap de Begur from which the north wind becomes much stronger.
The second is Cap de Creus, which can be insurmountable because in this place the wind, the sea and the current are usually very strong in northerly wind conditions ... "
