i'm in a mood of eating meat. i've been dreaming about medium-rare prime rib, but the closest steak restaurant from my home - outback - has closed only 4 days before i visited there. i showed the sprit and called outback at another city, but they said they no longer serve prime ribs. sad. i tried to beguile myself with this korean bbq bento, but it didn't work. i need a big, thick piece of beef...
I had the sun working for me on this return trip to the Royal Oak Farm Fruit Orchard outside of Alden. These are the "Gala" variety of apple.
Seeing as it is Halloween I thought that I would post this picture of pumpkins growing in the walled garden at The Vyne, near Basingstoke.
Pumpkins are a gourd-like squash of the genus Cucurbita and the family Cucurbitaceae.
The word pumpkin originates from the word pepon, which is Greek for “large melon". The French adapted this word to pompon, which the British changed to pumpion and later American colonists changed that to the word we use today, “pumpkin". The origin of pumpkins is not definitively known, although they are thought to have originated in North America. The oldest evidence, pumpkin-related seeds dating between 7000 and 5500 B.C., were found in Mexico. Pumpkins range in size from less than 1 pound (0.45 kilograms) to over 1,000 pounds (453.59 kilograms).
Pumpkins are monoecious, having both male and female flowers on the same plant. The female flower is distinguished by the small ovary at the base of the petals. These bright and colorful flowers have extremely short life spans and may only open for as short a time as one day. The color of pumpkins is derived from the orange pigments abundant in them. The main nutrients are lutein and both alpha and beta carotene, the latter of which generates vitamin A in the body.

Trying to do the food shopping in my lunch hour sometimes resembles a bit of a trolly dash. Given that I do it at least once or twice a week, I've become quite the seasoned pro at Trafford Park Asda.
A scene from Apni Mandi (Farmers' Bazaar) Panchkula, Haryana, India. The bazaar is a treasure chest of wonderful images, any day!
one of the things i love to do during traveling is to go to supermarket to find something i've never tasted before. the supermarket in madrid was very attractive. after an hour, i chose winter cherries. it tasted like sweet tomatoes. i am not sure if they are classified as "vegitables" or "fruits".
i've been working too hard, and couldn't cook at home for some time.
i need vegitables. i need vegitables. i need vegitables.
The other day Jennifer (Jen's Photography) and I went shopping. I wasn't feeling that great and wandered through the fruit area. I picked out a few sweet purple and sweet red plums, a couple of pears and a bunch of limes. Then I wandered over to the meat counter and found a nice Chuck Steak... plan coming together... then found some Raspberry Balsamic to marinate the meat...
Jen added some fresh grilled mushrooms, some brussel sprouts, spinach, and some red pepper spears.
Yup, we ate good that night.
