Value(s) for Money? Philanthropy as a Catalyst for Social Change (March 6-9, 2014)
Increasing social and environmental challenges, writ globally, are raising the stakes for philanthropy to find "solutions". The deeply complex nature of these challenges, however, defies easy fixes and requires more sophisticated and diffuse systems level approaches. Is the philanthropic sector ready, or capable of meeting critical systemic challenges? Probably not, as seen through the lens of Michael Edwards in a recent think piece entitled 'Beauty and the Beast: Can Money Ever Foster Social Transformation?'.
Innovative funding mechanisms that support social change - like crowd-funding, social impact bonds, payments for eco-system services and prize-backed challenges - have diversified the funding landscape and brought in new resources. The system, however, is arguably out of balance with too much focus placed on revenue-generation, and directing financial resources, through the market. At the same time, less funding is available for the deeper, less tangible drivers of social change - change that is driven by the beneficiaries themselves and is inherently more democratic. Money, while a seemingly essential tool in change processes, can be a "curse", reinforcing or exacerbating the very circumstances and power imbalances at the heart of systemic social challenges.
The objective of this program, in partnership with Hivos, is to shape a new narrative on funding for deep social change that can influence current and future funding trends and global policies.

3. I believe the best aspect is the way the trees look as though they are apart of the sunset.
4. I could have taken this picture a little bit more zoomed in so it would focus more on the sunset and the roof would not be in the picture.
Most schools just come up with something that sounds about right. Lots of words no-one understands. We set out with ASW to find out what really underpins their community.
The NHS Values Summit brings together a diverse range of people and perspectives to create a greater understanding of how people’s differences, social status and cultural expectations can affect their experiences of health and care.
It challenges and inspires people to think about the role of ethical leadership in improving the health and wellbeing of local communities, staff and patients and how the NHS can increase the social value of its activities.
Welcoming representatives from health and social care, alongside more than 20 partners from the voluntary and community sector, this event (in Leeds, Yorkshire) was a template for future NHS Values Summits, which will be held twice a year in different locations across the country. Each event will explore a different theme relating to equality, health inequalities and human rights. The next gathering will take place in May 2013.

Advertising and marketing giants know how hard it is for us to pass up a free offer. They also know that the only way we’ll do it is if what’s on offer has no value to us. So their mission is to convince us that the reason our life has lost its zip is because we don’t have the particular product or service they are being paid to promote. And incase we’re not quite sure, to seal the deal we’re pushed over the edge with the irresistible “Buy 2 Get 1 Free!” mantra. In today’s matter crazed world we can also easily pass on spirituality because we don’t see how it could add any punch to our party. After all, what do you really get out of “being spiritual”? Because it’s so rare to find someone who has actually achieved what is available in spiritual pursuits, this mindset is, unfortunately, understandable. What is available through a genuine non-material lifestyle? Bhakti wisdom lists two observable items, with genuine happiness being number one on the list. That means happiness which is not based or dependent on anything external, which has no distress mixed in, and which is always increasing. The second item is the dedicated effort to give the opportunity for that kind happiness to others. As Bhagavad Gita explains “Because the Bhaki Yogi is truly happy, due to connection to the Supreme, out of compassion he or she tries to hard share this connection with others.” Believe it or not these people, although few and far between, are out there. And they can add the greatest value to our lives, if we’ll let them.

3.I think what makes this photo appealing is the palm tree leaves which cover the sunset but leave enough room for its beautiful colours to be seen.
4. If I were to take this photo again I would try and get a shot from farther away or closer up so the palm trees are not in the shot.
Stopped by Value Village today to find some pants for my son who keeps blowing his knees with tips, years, and holes. Not only found some pants for him but some shorts, long sleeve tees, and a hoodie. And this mug for 49 cents. I already have a lot of mugs but HELLO, it's large, has red accents, and it's 49 cents! Then to top things off, the cashier gave me an extra 30% off my purchases even though my stamp card wasn't full! Thank you thrifting gods for a good haul after a very dry thrifting spell and especially to you, kind lady. You made my day with your small gesture and saved me $15 as well. Now if only garage sale season would start in the next few weeks....211:365
